For when the other thread runs out today!

OP posts:
slng · 02/07/2008 22:26

Teachers' presents!? Are they not PAID!?

Kewcumber · 03/07/2008 08:57

make them something (crocheted doilies, knitted tea towels) - they soon stop wanting presents.

sfxmum · 03/07/2008 09:39

good morning people

I feel knackered today could do with more sleep.
think will spend the day sorting out the flat then packing and
buying a shirt and tie for dh which he neglected to do - what do you think of the suit and no shirt look?
will they think he is leftover entertainment from the hen night?

SJ99 · 03/07/2008 09:50

Good morning

LOL at going shirtless! Yes, you might just have to save his dignity by doing his packing unless he's going for the Chippendale look

Not sure what we'll do today, feeling v. undecided like the weather, but will stay local

DS got his letter last week confirming his place at pre-school in Sept Start of a new era

slng · 03/07/2008 09:52

Good morning!

sfx - when's the wedding? Suit-and-no-shirt look could be interesting at wedding, but definitely not suitable at school gate, I think. BTW I'm going on tree tour on 12 July. Interested?

SJ99 · 03/07/2008 10:02

Wouldn't mind going on tree tour but have a wedding on the 12th.

Need to work out what to wear for wedding from my limited maternity wardrobe. Won't buy anything new but can always accessorise, accessorise, accessorise. Feel a shopping trip coming up next week

sfxmum · 03/07/2008 10:03

SJ oh the school letter know what you mean

slng on the 12th it's Kew Swing in the evening, hope the weather will be nice.
I might be in sole charge of dd during the day as dh might be working that day.

the wedding or the pantomime as dh calls it, will be on Saturday we are driving up tomorrow morning.
must keep dh off the drink and away from the brides rellies or there will be trouble, he will say something unsuitable and will end up offending them without intention but it seems to come out.

slng · 03/07/2008 10:07

sfx - I find that sticking to "Doesn't she look lovely" works in weddings. But be careful not to say it in a sacarstic/sceptical/cynical tone.

sfxmum · 03/07/2008 10:10

weird thing yesterday, one of the nurses was from New Zeeland and she said I was the 2nd person she knew with my surname the first being a boy she went to school with and she has a crush on him apparently his parents or grandparents where from Glasgow
must ask FIL as some of his family are from Glasgow and some are from Londonderry

ComeOVeneer · 03/07/2008 10:12

HI all, here you are.

Fab news SFX what a relief!

Why when we have outdoor things planned does the weather turn sour? Tomorrow is the summer social at dd's school, early evening get together with picnic and wine in the school grounds, then Saturday is Sandown races!

Am busy getting ready for the IL's arrival tomorrow for the weekend. Been making fil's birthday cake. Picture will be loaded on my profile shortly. I always go overboard when we have visitors - DH has persuaded me to get a take away tomorrow night as I won't be home before 7.15 from the school and they won't be here til 8ish. But I am doing a 3 course meal on Saturday night then a buffet for 12 with a whole poached salomon, salads etc on the Sunday. I'm a glutton for punishement.

sfxmum · 03/07/2008 10:12

slng yes but dh is likely to just say that his brother looks like a in his morning suit.
once I told a bride she looked lovely and she turned to me and said 'you sound surprised' well I was surprised she did not look sluty as usual

slng · 03/07/2008 10:19

Do not sound sacarstic/cynical/sceptical/surprised when saying bride is lovely. It's beginning to look quite difficult. Perhaps just smile (yes, smile, not leer, grimace or gurn) and say nothing?

sfxmum · 03/07/2008 10:25

cov isn't it always the case with the weather, poached salmon sounds yummy. get the take away and relax.

slng I like the girl she is very nice and lovely, I have been getting dd to call her auntie for a while, she likes that.

SJ99 · 03/07/2008 10:39

Yes COV please get a take away and relax. Food sounds lovely, sure you will enjoy it despite the weather, but so typical I know.

Wedding's are funny aren't they? Best thing to do is get drunk

Have decided to do nothing today. Need a quiet day before manic weekend, also need to do loads of housy stuff as well.

rosmerta · 03/07/2008 13:28

Hi all, just popping in quickly as don't think ds will nap today. Does anyone know what time the Redlees 1 o clock club is open till?

Klaw · 03/07/2008 14:44

Hijack sorry, Comeoveneer, I'd like your input here please...

sfxmum · 03/07/2008 17:36

did ds nap Ros?

completely floored today just taking it easy and dreaming of my bed yawn yawn

SJ99 · 03/07/2008 17:58

Did you make it to club Ros? Never been so not sure of the hours.

After spending morning in doing chores etc we went down by the river in the afternoon. DS said he wasn't going to sleep in tent with us at festival. I asked him where he was going to sleep, he replied at the beach

sfxmum · 03/07/2008 18:24

it is a lovely beach to be fair
dh seems a bit worried that the festival will involve a gang of mumsnetters I have reassured him everyone going is perfectly normal and will just go about their business

rosmerta · 03/07/2008 20:29

sfx, lol @ dh Mn worry! My dh worries a bit if he happens to take ds out during the week that someone's going to come up & start chatting to him on account of knowing ds! He took him to Lollipop this morning & I think he was on tenterhooks the whole time

Ds didn't nap but we didn't go to Redlees as I couldn't find the times anywhere. Went to feed the ducks in the park instead. There are loads of squirrels that are really tame as well.

Paddlechick666 · 03/07/2008 20:37

sfx, better warn dh that h likes to randomly shout "MUMSNET" just to see if anyone reacts LOL.

he's met me and SJ before tho so am sure he'll be right.

bet we don't actually see much of each other anyway.

sj, did you check out wicked? they seemed quite reasonable and have vans available.

i am spending most of my time daydreaming about my own van and heading into the sunset.

think i am having a MLC.

bunyanvillas · 03/07/2008 21:13

Hoorah SFX, great all is ok Ros, did you make it to Redlees? Is normally open 1pm-4pm I think. PC, so very jealous of your festival experience, the pics look fab and I just wish I could have gone! Will be glad when this week is over - ds has been v up and down following the 12 week jab - and dd has her mmr booster tomorrow. Will start afresh next week!

sfxmum · 03/07/2008 21:31

hi Bunyan sounds rough it is always a pain when they are under the weather.

dd has been a bit off all day, asking to be left alone to rest and had a temperature at dinnertime so had Calpol at bedtime, fingers crossed no lurgy lurking.

missed Heroes but I think BBC3 show a repeat in an hr.

ComeOVeneer · 03/07/2008 21:37

Paddle, just caught up on FB pics. Looks like you and dd had a fab time, she looks so grown up (mind you it has been quite a while since I have seen you both).

Well I expect I will have no time to be here for a few days with the ILs visit. So have a lovely weekend everyone!

stepfordwife · 03/07/2008 22:46

paddle your FB glasto pics are fantastic. dd is a bundle of gorgeousness..oh, and you're not bad yourself..
so glad you enjoyed it
