For when the other thread runs out today!

Kew why does s/he think DS is "special needs"???

...mind you, social workers tend to be as mad as a box of frogs too don't they?

frecklyfox · 07/07/2008 16:33

x posts

ladygovida · 07/07/2008 16:35

yes its me, freckly and naked

Kewcumber · 07/07/2008 16:37

its her big thing it does my head in though I am getting used to it. She interviewed my mum whene mum was giving him lunch last month and M said she seemed quite surprised that he eat his lunch quite nicely. I think she's looking for a problem to vindicate her persistent referecnes to Special needs.

He might have - who on earth knows when they're 2.6? But he isn;t showing any now (unless you count lining trains and cars up in a row persistantly)

ladygovida · 07/07/2008 16:40

..sounds like a typical social worker, trying to justify her existance

sfxmum · 07/07/2008 16:53

was talking to FIL at weekend about toddler behaviour and how it is no wonder things like autism are so hard to diagnose, they all have behaviours which can easily fall within the spectrum.

people actually working within SN shun labels because they really restrict and blind people to the fact that it is primarily about addressing the child's needs whatever they may be.
but unfortunately having a label can help release funds although god forbid a child has some sort of dual diagnosis

will stop ranting now
sorry

Hello everyone,

I finally have a free moment to log on today. It's been a mad mad couple of weeks trying to sort out a holiday.

I used to enjoy holiday planning before dd but post-dd it seemed like a marathon planning session and really stressful.

Sushi - glad things are getting better.

Sfx - did you enjoy the wedding weekend?

The Old Deer Park event looks good. I might go to that on a Friday.

I remember a long long time ago someone mentioned something about art classes for children. Can anyone remember where/what it is? Is it the Landmark Arts Centre?

ladygovida · 07/07/2008 19:18

Slng - was it at the Art Yard in Sheen?

Expensive but very, very wonderful! They do fabulous parties, with the take away being a piece of art handmade by each child

DS1 went to a Dr Who themed party there once, and another time brought back a mirror which is still hanging on our wall

I'm aiming to persuade DD to have a party there when she is about 7-8 - with nice small civilised group of girls!

Thanks ladygodiva (foxie? Is that you?)

ladygovida · 07/07/2008 20:49

Yes, sitting on a horse in me birthday suit (its like a fridge up here!!!)

sfxmum · 08/07/2008 10:10

good morning all, looking a bit better today but not that hopeful of dry spell.

mellow very nice thank you lovely, to meet family too, FIL family are all fun and a bit bonkers but adore dd and kept her entertained which was nice

ros they are funny aren't they? when the imagination kicks in all sorts of fantasies and fears make an appearance

have to do essay tonight which is worrying me.
hope everyone is well

foxie what prompted you to strip and get on a horse?

slng · 08/07/2008 10:56

Good morning!

ladyg - you have gone mad, in case you don't know it ... Where do you keep the horse?

Kew - surely all 2-yr-olds line trains and cars up and play traffic jams. Or is it a boy thing?

SushiMummy · 08/07/2008 11:02

QC - yeah, mine does that, too, in a control-freakish manner.

Could anyone do a sample letter for me, please? I need to write a letter to the local school to beg for a place for DS. DH wrote one but I feel we need to add a bit more to it. TIA

Kewcumber · 08/07/2008 11:13

oh its not just the lining up - they have to be just touching and are often colour co-ordinated.

Sushi is this the school you went to see earlier, the one where he'd start next year?

SushiMummy · 08/07/2008 11:23

QC - yes, that's the one. We've given up on Kew Riverside Primary as we live too far out. Darell is an excellent school but a bit too far for me (I don't drive).

We liked the fact the school we went to see has a lovely open atomosphere, kids look very happy and confident (they guided us around the school), small classes and there were about 5 Japanese pupils there, too.

SushiMummy · 08/07/2008 11:27

QC - your DS has excellent fine motor skills, then! Crafty type, maybe?

Kewcumber · 08/07/2008 11:43

yes I must say his fine motor skills are on a par with his fake crying for sympathy skills which are most impressive and quite difficult to distingush from the real thing.

One of the things I meant to tell you to ask was the ethnic make-up of the school but it sounds like that was obvious.

SushiMummy · 08/07/2008 11:51

Hahaha, a theatrical type, just like my DS. Well, most 2 year olds are, I suppose.

sfxmum · 08/07/2008 11:51

are we on to schools again? I think sister wrote a letter for niece secondary school, all about the girls skills and character and how they as parents were keen to be involved etc.
values bla bla

don't think dd is a toddler any more definitely in little girl territory now, but she still likes lining things up and occasionally has strange obsessions about just how they should be

yesterday I was making rhubarb crumble and gave her the topping ingredients to mix, which she usually likes doing and is quite good at, but after a while she was eating it.
when I asked why she was eating it she said 'because I needed to know if it was nice'

SushiMummy · 08/07/2008 12:02

sfx - sorry

sfxmum · 08/07/2008 12:05

sushi why? bit foggy headed today

trying to persuade KC to run for office
