oh I am bored today where is that stupid parcel

foxie that home mass reminded me we used to play at saying mass when we were kids, oh so wholesome except for the squabbles for whoo would be the priest
we did have a few extended family masses as we had priests in the family it was a very relaxed affair thankfully without sermons

Little house on the Prairie that takes me back, recently I have been reading about the life of the author, quite extraordinary

MrsRecycle · 13/06/2008 13:09

Well done COV - you will start enjoying the next one. Do you think the cat could have been your "fairy" - dds' religious teacher often tells me that we have someone looking out for us and, do you know what, she is so true (even though I thought she was silly at the time). Everytime I need a message from god, there is always one there.

Am feeling a bit better, thanks for asking. Sushi - my head is still killing me and I'm on Zomig at the mo to survive plus my asthma's awful. Bless her dd1 told me upon having an attack this morning that I should "really go to the Doctors". Not much they can do though, I have to live with it.

ds is a lot lot better although still has a cold - back to his cheeky self bossing everyone around and beating up dd2.

Foxie - the mass sounded lovely - I wish we could have them like that instead of having to make the trip to Church every Sunday - would be so much more nicer. Talking of LHOTP, I'm going to dig my books out and get dd1 to read them, I'm sure she'd love them. I was reading about Laura Ingles Wilder the other day, what a coincidence.

sfx - hope your parcels turn up.

I'm staying at home this weekend, lots of parties (kids and adults) to go to plus dh is working, poor thing.

oh sfx - do you have a book on her? If so could I borrow it - she had a really extraordinary life didn't she? I can't believe her books weren't published until she was 65.

ComeOVeneer · 13/06/2008 13:16

Kew, you an I have made Morningpapers weekly round-up.

sfxmum · 13/06/2008 13:31

mrsR can't say for sure I don't have a book on her, the inventory planned for mat leave never happened
but I did read a series of articles on her recently, really remarkable life

xoxo · 13/06/2008 14:11

I used to love little house of the prairie. An 'uncle' (in the irish way, this was anyone who turned up to stay at the house who vaguely knew my parents) bought us the whole series and we used to read them every night. I always think those books started me on my love of reading. ahhhh memories.

I didn't know LIW had an 'eventful' life though.Nor that her books were published so late in her life. I recall the girl that played 'Mary' in the series as being really beautiful and wanting to look like her.
Then I wanted to be a charlies angel. I was Kelly.

Now I just want to be 28, tall skinny and blond. and rich.

xoxo · 13/06/2008 14:13

Oh - and am obsessed with pregnancy websites like visembryo and babysworld.
I forget everything form the first two pregnancies and now must relearn it all. It's really fun.

sfxmum · 13/06/2008 14:16

'Now I just want to be 28, tall skinny and blond. and rich' LOL yes I would settle for 30 not specifically blonde
with permanent staff

sfxmum · 13/06/2008 14:21

OMG what a rude rude delivery person what an arse on a bike

stepfordwife · 13/06/2008 14:24

hello everyone
well been out all morning with the girleen..
forced myself to go at toddler pace
it was excruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuciating

mass sounds fab, foxie, the true spirit of church.

kew, hope you had a nice time. would deffo like to go some time. only just seen you went but had various errands.
oh yes i loved LHONP, too. (nearly as much as the waltons)

oxo, i wanted to be mary, too! such stunning eyes. wept copiously when she went blind (er because it was so sad, btw, not because she had stunning eyes )
ooh which one was kelly? was it jaclyn smith. that's who i wanted to be.

oh and thanks - not bad for an old (greying, increasingly grumpy) bird, eh? know what you mean about the age thing. amused me how doctors felt the need to remind me how old i was all the time when i was pregnant with dd. like i'd forget or something

remember once, i said to a doctor:"anyhow i'm only 41."
his withering reply:'you're 41 and 10 months actually..that's 42 in my book."

MrsR..hope you feel better and manage to get some rest amid the round of parties over the weekend.

and well done on getting your speech done, COV, despite feline disruption!

what have you and kew made the round-up for?
(it's sent to one of my other e-mail addresses which i can't get into at mo)

sfxmum · 13/06/2008 14:34

am very amused that MN will have a live chat with Sheharazade Goldsmith LOL

must be the credit crunch tips on running a vast organic country estate with geese mind and a townhouse in Richmond so exhausting, she must have some money saving tips and maybe a few on how to get a cute rich boy

fitfox · 13/06/2008 14:43

"Sheharazade" - HTF does one pronounce that woman's name then?

Have decided to vote for Zak Goldsmith at the next general election so I can go to his surgeries for "advice" and just sit and drawl over him

LOL at LHOTP reminiscences. I was Laura - the freckly, unattractive middle child with limited social skills...

I would settle for being Fat, over 40 and ginger but VERY RICH!

Deffo with permenant staff

fitfox · 13/06/2008 14:47

Sushi - you can ask about:

how much parental in put does the school get (very important)

what support do they give to children to settle in

how much homework do children receive in infants?

which secondary schools do the leavers move on to (very important)

How does the school keep you, the parent, informed each term about what your child is learning and how you can support your child?

Extra curricular stuff - what after school clubs do they have and things like arts, music sports - what provision do they have?

These are all the things I wish I had asked before DS1 started school. Instead I asked nowt and was clueless until I absorbed snippets of information bit by bit during the first year..

stepfordwife · 13/06/2008 14:53

foxie, i felt really inadequate at your wisdom until i read those are the things you wish you'd asked

trouble is you don't really know the best questions to ask until you've had experience of the school system, eh?

LHOTP thought - funny how melissa gilbert (laura) together with jaclyn smith are always on those gloriously naff made-for-TV films

sfxmum · 13/06/2008 15:00

naff tv movies are my guilty secret glorious Hallmark channel et all with the drama or moral lesson of the week

fantastic questions foxie LOL at voting in the blond rich boy just to stare at him, I expect it would be part of his job description

sfxmum · 13/06/2008 15:02

there you go have a look

stepfordwife · 13/06/2008 16:24

hmmm, sfx, can actually see him as jaclyn smith's leading man in 'Straight from the heart' or something..

MrsRecycle · 13/06/2008 17:39

dh has moved a few Goldsmiths - I'll ask him if it was Zac and next time, you can take a wander round to his new abode.

sfx - I had one of those lists for mat leave as well

dd2 has a playdate here, I have swoped ds for her - its nice that they can play without ds pulling their hair out. Then off to drop dd1 at a party, swop back playdate/ds and then back home for some me and dh time whilst my sis babysits. Heaven...until 6am tomorrow morning...

Oh and I have a clean house (well downstairs) managed to clean all rooms without ds arguing with me about who is doing the hoovering/mopping/cleaning.

Hi all. Hate to admit it but my contribution that got me into the round up (for my first time - made me feel that I have finally be recognised as a bona fide MNer ) was the fact that (whipsres) I decant my washing up liquid into a chrome pump dispenser to fit in with the decor of my kitchen because I can't abide plastic bottles on show . And if any of you ever doubted my anal tendencies, I think that snippet of info was the final nail in the coffine

MrsRecycle · 13/06/2008 17:51

and here was me thinking it was your cake making skills

AtheneNoctua · 13/06/2008 17:52

Hi everyone. Sorry, no time to catch up properly.

But I wondered if anyone knows anyone who needs a cot and changing table. If so, could you point them to my thread where I am trying to give them away www.mumsnet.com/Talk/5008/547006?ts=1213375706061&msgid=11188770

I also will be trying to offload an Ikea junior bed... if anyone wants one. Happy to give it away if someone will just come collect it.

AtheneNoctua · 13/06/2008 17:57

Oh, OXO, I just read you have cleared out your baby stuff. Fantastic. You can have all of this if you want it, and you can have a M & P high chair too.

I've given most of the rest of my stuff away.

Paddlechick666 · 13/06/2008 18:04

hey Athene, I could be interested in the Ikea Junior bed, which one is it?

dd is still in her cotbed as a cot as she hasn't shown any inclination to climb but a junior bed for the future would be good.
