Hi! I thought it might be an idea to motivate each other in a dedicated thread.

OK, i just wanted to tell everyone IVE STARTED MY TRAINING and it feels great!! Im following a book called 'Running made easy' and its working. Ive only done 2 days, but i actually RAN!!! woohooo. erm, it was only 1minute, then 3mins walking x 4, but considering how unfit i am, i am well chuffed.

So come on - make me envious of your athletic abilities! 12 minutes indeed

I'm intending to do 30 mins tomorrow - then see how far off 5k I am! Think I'll try to do 5k on Wed, then 30 mins on Friday.

Getting a bit nervous about this now, actually!

SparklyPrincess · 21/07/2008 21:32

So, 30 mins done... 2 1/2 miles or thereabouts. Did it all in one go apart from having to cough and splutter a little! Really hoping I can get clear of this damn cold by Sunday.

Did you make the 30 mins Saz? Mung, Pooter how are you getting on?

pooter · 21/07/2008 23:58

oh my god SP and Saz!! I will be eating your dust! I have booked DS into the creche again - feel like a heartless bitch as he doesnt like it, but hes 17mo now so should be able to cope.

I have left it a bit late to go for 30mins none stop (hahhahahahaha)Sorry - bit of manic laughter there. Im aiming more for Four mins! But i will plod on with it and next year run the whole thing.

Its quite inspiring really, seeing you two improve so vastly! Well done

Didn't go yesterday..think I might have overdone it on Saturday. Have to go today, but really want to sit in the sun instead...will report progress tonight.

Saz126 · 22/07/2008 09:04

BTW, four minutes good Pooter, actually the hardest bit those first few minutes and it is actually true that it does get a bit easier as you get into the run, so it's not a full half hour of constant pain. Well not always!

Is the University area quite flat? Please say it is - I have distinct memories of there being the only hill in the whole of Essex right where we will be running!

Mung · 22/07/2008 09:19

You are all doing better than little miss lazt Mung here...

How will we find each other on Sunday?

Twinkie1 · 22/07/2008 09:30

Sorry to but in girls - have horrid in laws over at weekend so can't even come and support you!!

Mung do you want me to drop TV round today - am childless or do you want to come and collect it at some point?? Is languishing in my en suite at the mo and the guy is coming to finish it Thursday so I want it Gone!!!!

SparklyPrincess · 22/07/2008 15:59

I'm a bit concerned about the terrain as well, Saz!

Oh, and I know what you mean about overdoing it! Everything hurts today for some reason!

Not sure about finding each other... not been to anything like this before...

Saz126 · 22/07/2008 20:26

Maybe we could meet at the Donation Station? I don't know where it is but I know there will be one as I have a bag to take there, wherever it may be.

I did 10 minutes today! Oh dear...

Mung · 22/07/2008 21:15

Sorry Twinkie...didn't get this on time. I will text you when I can come and get it...annoying thing was that I passed through your way today.

Sounds like a plan saz...I have a few bits to give in too, so it will make me remember them.

It is a bit hilly over there, but we will be fine...stop worrying about it. I am super unfit again, but I am fairly confident that I'll be fine. Its not that far

pooter · 22/07/2008 22:10

yep, I can meet at the donation station - but what time?

I did 4mins running, then 2mins walking and did that five times - it was a bit harder than 3mins, but doable. I was very unhappy to see that id only gone 3.5k!!

OP posts:
Mung · 22/07/2008 22:15

10.30?

pooter · 22/07/2008 23:10

10.30 sounds good mung. I may have to leave dh and dd at home i think, much as id like the cheering! Ds gets v grumpy if he doesnt have his nap. or perhaps it would spur me on to run faster to stop the whinging

OP posts:
pooter · 22/07/2008 23:12

hang on - i dont have a dd!

OP posts:
SparklyPrincess · 23/07/2008 11:54

Ok, 10.30 at the donation station. Sounds good!

'It's not that far' ... going to try to run 5k later so I'll let you know!!

Saz126 · 23/07/2008 20:07

10.30 good for me. I'll be with DH and DS and probably the whole clan who have come to laugh!

SparklyPrincess · 23/07/2008 20:34

Just got back ... ran 5k! Woo-hoo!

Did it in 38 mins so just under 13 mins per mile which I'm ok with. Had to stop to tie my shoelace a couple of times. Really must remember to tie a double knot!

I'm bringing dh, who's bringing dd's and the resuscitation kit

pooter · 24/07/2008 11:16

Well done SP - thats brilliant!! Im aiming for 50mins/completing the course!!

OP posts:
Mung · 24/07/2008 15:17

Well done SP...you have put the rest of us to shame.

SparklyPrincess · 24/07/2008 16:02

Aww, thanks - just wait til you see me huffing and puffing around the place on Sunday! Then you'll feel better!!

Feel awful for it, but really hoping for a light drizzle on Sunday rather than the glorious sunshine!

Saz126 · 24/07/2008 20:45

Well done SP! Really hoping for drizzle too on Sunday. I've just been out and managed 36 minutes, so I can't be far off 5K. It was incredibly slow again and not many hills but I am very happy with that. Now for two days of rest...bliss...

SparklyPrincess · 24/07/2008 22:41

You can plot your route on mapmyrun and it'll tell you how far it is...

although its sometimes better not to know!

Well done Saz, you've done really well in the last few weeks! I'm going to do one more tomorrow - not going to go for the full 5k though.

So you going out next week??

pooter · 25/07/2008 08:20

I have a problem - yesterday i stood on some broken glass and have a piece lodged in my foot!! (my cleaner ( yes i know - im a slattern) dropped on of our wedding present glasses and didnt clean it all up. Im just grateful it wasnt DS that stood on it. I got DH to come home and take me to A&E but they said it would do more damage to try and get it out, so i have to live with it - it will either work its way out by itself or heal up around it.

I booked DS into the gym creche this morning, so im going to try and cushion the area and see if i can run.

I will do my very best to do it - so close to the day, i cant believe it!!

OP posts:
SparklyPrincess · 25/07/2008 12:58

What a nightmare, pooter!

I'd be very wary of running on that - be awful if you made it worse. Hope it works its way out and does it soon!

Mung · 25/07/2008 13:06

Sounds awful Pooter. I can't believe they think its better to leave it in...what if it doesn't work its ways out? Will you always have a nagging pain of glass poking insode your foot?

Hope you can make it, but as SP says, dont push it as you dont want to lodge it in any further.
