Hi! I thought it might be an idea to motivate each other in a dedicated thread.

OK, i just wanted to tell everyone IVE STARTED MY TRAINING and it feels great!! Im following a book called 'Running made easy' and its working. Ive only done 2 days, but i actually RAN!!! woohooo. erm, it was only 1minute, then 3mins walking x 4, but considering how unfit i am, i am well chuffed.

So come on - make me envious of your athletic abilities! 12 minutes indeed

Went out Friday for just over 20 minutes, 2 and a half mins jogging/1 minute walking. Didn't ache too badly this time. Hoping to go out again today or tomorrow, but tired today as have been to Marks Hall and pushed buggy up hills, through woods, over fields phew...need a sleep.

Mung · 04/05/2008 20:02

Well done Saz. I still haven't nothing to report as I have a stiff neck and dodgy shoulder. Hoping to get going again soon.

SparklyPrincess · 04/05/2008 21:57

Well done Saz!

pooter · 06/05/2008 21:00

week 2 training has commenced! 1.5 mins run, then 2.5mins walk x 4. It was quite tricky - im aching, but im sure it will be better when i repeat it. (also do 10mins cycling to warm up) Am off to have a hot bath!!

Saz126 · 06/05/2008 21:39

Well done Pooter!

I went out briefly on Sunday - 5 mins jog to shop and then 5 mins jog back with shopping in hand (I looked v. stupid trying not to swing bag as I jogged!)
Was so chuffed that I'd done 5 mins without stopping that I went out tonight and thought I'd start Week 4 of the plan and well...I did manage it, but I am very very achey...SP, all I can say is you are doing very well! Will try and go out again Thursday if I can manage to move by then!

SparklyPrincess · 06/05/2008 22:19

Hiya - did week 5 run 1 this evening ... 3 lots of 5 mins. Ow! Really scared of the rest of the weeks runs! 2 x 8 mins on Thursday and 20 mins on Sunday ... not promising I'll manage that though! Felt ok after tonights run (bit stiff now, tho! ) but can't imagine keeping going for 20 mins...

Well done everyone ... Saz, you're clearly going to overtake me! Won't get competitive or I'll end up in hospital!

Saz126 · 07/05/2008 09:06

That's great SP! Really well done - 3 lots of 5 mins! And I am definitely not going to overtake you, I am suffering this morning. Even my arms are aching!

pooter · 07/05/2008 11:43

Wow saz and SP - im so impressed! What were you both like when you started? Were you complete novices or were you lapsed joggers?

OP posts:
Mung · 07/05/2008 13:44

I am starting to feel really bad...I still haven't been out running. I am still trying to shrug off this neck and shoulder ache. I may have to go and take the risk. I am going to download the weeks 4 and 5 podcasts for whilst I am on holiday.

Well done girls. You are doing so well.

Saz126 · 07/05/2008 13:56

We've still got ages yet Mung, 11 weeks Sunday so plenty of time. Have you tried Arnica for your neck and shoulder? Tends to help for DH.

Pooter, I have never really jogged - I had some personal training a couple of years ago and managed to jog for 10 minutes on the running machine but that's it. I think I'm a bit fitter after having DS and running around after him! I think it's easier this time having a goal to aim for too, I'm not very good at motivating myself usually. DH not a great help though - he says he will be impressed when I run the marathon. He has always been fit, he doesn't understand how hard it is for a couch potato! (he has never run the marathon though!)

Mung · 07/05/2008 14:04

Marathon next year then? Just to impress Saz's DH...

Does your DH use an arnica cream or does he swallow capsules?

Saz126 · 07/05/2008 15:14

Oh yes, marathon - easy peesy!
He uses arnica gel, same as cream I think - but I think the capsules supposed to be good.

pooter · 07/05/2008 16:48

AAAaagggggghhhhhhh 11 weeks!! yikes, sounds way too soon for my little legs. I really agree saz about how having this as a goal helps wiuth motivation. Also knowing that three others are going through the pain too! (and i cant stop training as i will be too embarrassed onb the day if i am rubbish!)

OP posts:
pooter · 07/05/2008 16:49

Why didnt my bold work?

OP posts:
SparklyPrincess · 08/05/2008 17:33

Definitely not a lapsed jogger, pooter! I have been doing quite a lot of walking, particularly since I had DD1 and work stopped getting in the way . I attempted to start running last autumn at the suggestion of DH who's a regular runner and managed to get up to running about 90 seconds before the onset of winter ruined my motivation!

Only really got going when the weather got a better recently. So it could all go to pot come October ...

SparklyPrincess · 09/05/2008 14:42

Did Week 5 run 2 last night 2 lots of 8 min runs . Thought I was going to pass out when I got home. Had to go and sit in the shade in the garden to cool down!

20 mins run at the weekend ... oh dear, oh dear ...

pooter · 09/05/2008 17:14

WEll, im meant to be at the gym but im MNing cos ive got a sore throat and ear. bbooo hooo. Hopefully i'll be able to go at the wkend. SP - you are my hero - 8mins!!

OP posts:
Saz126 · 09/05/2008 22:18

Well done SP, 8 mins is really good. I did Week 4 run 2 tonight and it was so tough, harder than the one I did earlier this week. I've found that running is easier when I've been at work or DH has been at home too - am much more tired when I've had a day with DS on my own. Probably the constant football playing in the garden! So really I think I have it easier than all of you. Pooter, you are SAHM too aren't you? Not sure how you all have the energy to run at all!

SparklyPrincess · 10/05/2008 16:42

I found week 4 run 2 harder than run 1 actually. Maybe cos I knew what was coming?!

Well done, Saz! Hope you're feeling better soon Pooter...

Trying to decide whether to go for the 20 minuter today (later when it's cooler!) or tomorrow morning...

SparklyPrincess · 10/05/2008 20:14

I DID IT!! I just ran for 20 whole minutes!!

[thoroughly exhausted emoticon...]

Mung · 11/05/2008 19:53

WOW SP!

pooter · 13/05/2008 00:00

Thats BRILLIANT sp. im full of and a bit of !! My babysitter had to do some university stuff this week, so i havent been at all! Im getting scared i wont be able to do it. Planned to go after dh got in from work, but ds was jumping around until 9.30 tonight, so it was all i could to to clean up the kitchen and do the ironing (and an hour on MN of course!)

OP posts:
SparklyPrincess · 14/05/2008 16:21

Hello?? Anyone there??!

Did wk 6 run 1 yesterday - 2 x 5 mins and an 8 min run. Which you would think would be easier than the 20, wouldn't you? Mind you it was rather hot out there!

I'm trying not to think about the end of this week and the weeks after - it all gets a bit scary after the next one...

And now DH is talking about a 10k at the end of September...

pooter · 14/05/2008 17:20

SP - what do you mean 'it gets a bit scary after the next one' !!!! I did a week 4 run today and was very pleased with myself - unfortunately, my week 4 is rather different from yours!! its 1min run, 2min walk x 8. Well, at least im progressing. I will get there eventually.....

OP posts:
Saz126 · 14/05/2008 20:22

Well done SP and Pooter. I have been very lazy...hadn't been out since Friday so made myself go tonight. Ahh sooooo tough, I am feeling sorry for myself and wondering if I will ever get past week 4! And my jeans are now getting tighter, how does that work?! I thought I'd be getting all toned and fabulous by now...probably hasn't helped that I had a 4 day rest between runs admittedly.
