Other thread full, so hope you all find me

Sushi, sorry I don't know anyone but there is a nanny agency near Kew Bridge. Hope ds is ok, typical of them to get ill at exactly the wrong time, isn't it?!

Foxie, we've sent off our form so am hoping we get our first choice (Weymouth)!

OP posts:

boys don't lie on rugs reading magazines... if only. Spent a few hours in Greenwich park on Sunday am with some other Kazakh adopters, both with boys aorund the same age....

It was like herding cats.

stepfordwife · 13/05/2008 15:51

totally agree, sfx, that kids need to feel bored sometimes so they learn to do somethig about it!
in today's fast-track, angst parenting, though, boredom can be a dirty word, can't it?

i remember spending large portions of school summer holidays sitting on walls, drumming my heels...bored

but question: how the hell do you get dd to lie on a blanket reading magazines? please share.
i dream of such a scene..i'd be struggling to keep up with dd as she legged it...

paddle, i don't like pecan pie. do you think chocolate cake will wake me up just as well?

sfxmum · 13/05/2008 15:51

well it was a first and I did take crayons and a new Cbeebies magazine, having said that towards the end she started running away shouting HELP HELP HELP

stepfordwife · 13/05/2008 15:54

..well. kew, dd does think she's a boy

actually, she now realises she's a girl, but had a very long conversation (well monologue actually) the other day when she informed me when she's a "big kid" she'll be a boy and her willy will grow back

of course she thinks that becuase she's got two older brothers, but she cracked me up.

SJ99 · 13/05/2008 15:56

I'm sure even if I took crayons and Cbeebies mag DS would not stay still for very long.

I just a had a Twix to wake me up!
Have not got round to making banana bread yet as have been out in garden this afternoon, weather is so lovely.

Nee dto pop to shops later to get some milk. Talk about living life on the edge

stepfordwife · 13/05/2008 15:56

that sounds more like it, sfx
aren't comics bloody expensive?

have been known to mutter at the brood;' I didn't get comics until i was 10 you know," when they're lusting after the latest dr who/art attack/ITNG publication.

stepfordwife · 13/05/2008 15:57

steady, SJ
says she who hasn't moved from her desk all day...except to go downstairs and nag converse with dh now and then

SJ99 · 13/05/2008 15:58

LOL at willy growing bak. DS has finally got it that mummy does not have a willy. Last night in teh bath he told me that, phew

SJ99 · 13/05/2008 16:00

We weren't allowed comics either til about that age. I wasn't even allowed a pair of jeans til I was 16

Kewcumber · 13/05/2008 16:01

really we used to have a comic every week from about age 3 for years and years.

SJ99 · 13/05/2008 16:02

I was always of other kids who collected/got comics, I think I missed out there...

sfxmum · 13/05/2008 16:04

yes very expensive steppie but it bought me 40mins to read my magazines.

funny about how they try to discern their identity, dd has taken a while to settle on her gender and at times she says she is a boy, she is also married to the 2 of us and says things like

  • when I am a baby - when I was a big girl

we were talking about siblings recently and she is keen on having a sister, possibly to be named Gertrudebut she is not too clear on specifics of how that may come about as every baby in mummy's tummy is her

  • I guess it is one of those things she will get when it happens.

SJ somehow I only have one banana at home, most unusual, don't think I will bake today

btw no one impressed by my poor 3miles under 30min come on need encouragement

SJ99 · 13/05/2008 16:07

When I went for my scan, DS was convinced he was watching Beebies on the monitor and he kept saying that I had a Tweenie in my tummy

That is funny that she picked out the name Gertrude, where did she get that from?!

3miles in 30mins pretty good, but come on, you know you can do better (does that help?)

slng · 13/05/2008 16:09

ds1 very cranky. Watching Bob the builder now, so all quiet. Does anyone know what the relationship between Bob and Wendy is?

stepfordwife · 13/05/2008 16:11

actually, kew, i think i was a lot younger than 10..as i do remmeber getting teddy bear comic. (not every week, tho)
anyone remember that?
then it was twinkle
before graduating to mandy and bunty
then, in heady teenage excitement, jackie (dear cathy and claire!) and fab 208...
and now?
all of them... much to my dh's disgust.

think i'm maybe rewriting history a bit a la "i used to live in a shoe box" for dc's benefit

stepfordwife · 13/05/2008 16:12

oops
yaAAAYYYYYYY
3 miles in 30 minutes, sfx
(is that good?)

sfxmum · 13/05/2008 16:12

SJ thanks considering it used to take me almost just as long to do double that distance yes I can do better
LOL at Tweenies in your tummy

slng they are business partners of course

stepfordwife · 13/05/2008 16:13

isn't wendy the foreman/office manager, sing?
they're strictly just good friends..

stepfordwife · 13/05/2008 16:14

hmmm, hope it was child of milo, SJ..so much more attractive than jake..

sfxmum · 13/05/2008 16:21

steppie I have a terrible addiction to mags much to dh's bemusement I keep saying people should just give me subscriptions for my b'day Christmas etc but somehow they seldom do

Kewcumber · 13/05/2008 16:50

You are all very very naive if you think Wrendy is the office manager/chippie/assistant builder. Have you not noticed the striking resemblance to Bob's mum? Don;t all men marry their motehrs?

sfxmum · 13/05/2008 16:57

does Bob have a mother?

surely that might be the 2nd wife?

SJ99 · 13/05/2008 17:04

He has a dad too who could pass for older bro

SJ99 · 13/05/2008 17:06

LOL at Jackie - that was the first mag I used to get. I blame them for my magazine addiction I often ask for subscription for pressie, great idea

slng · 13/05/2008 17:10

Interesting thoughts on Bob and Wendy. Keep them coming! Wendy is often more competent than Bob, and knows everything. She can't be the assistant, can she? Am I taking this too seriously?

I've just chopped down half the jungle in the back garden. DS1 is still snipping off grass with his little craft scissors. That's going to take a while. DS2 stayed indoors all afternoon because "it cold" He's terrified of the wind...
