Other thread full, so hope you all find me

Sushi, sorry I don't know anyone but there is a nanny agency near Kew Bridge. Hope ds is ok, typical of them to get ill at exactly the wrong time, isn't it?!

Foxie, we've sent off our form so am hoping we get our first choice (Weymouth)!

Ros I love both the science museum and the natural history, and more to the point so does dd, it is very easy to get to too.

Paddle last Thursday the pool was full of dads, not usual for the week one of them was clearly an idiot prancing about in goggles and swimming under water while the toddler shouted for attention, all of this in the kids pool
the cafe do some very nice posh chicken nugget type things

we stayed close to home today not sure what to do tomorrow but have to fit in a visit to the cook shop in Richmond at some point, hope it is open

slng · 25/05/2008 18:40

Hello!

We went to Brent Cross shopping centre due to lack of imagination and craving for sandals. Got sandals. Still lack imagination ... Probably go swimming tomorrow.

SJ99 · 25/05/2008 19:43

Glad everyone is enjoying themselves despite bad weather, although the sun in the afternoon was lovely even if short lived.

Ikea trip went well, DS has now got his 1st pillow. He loves it, I can hear him chattering away in cot he's so excited about it!

Not sure what to do tom....will just decide in morning. DS on Ray Mears trip the next 2days wish I could go

Sfx - good news about allotment

Paddle - off anywhere nice for your trip?

fitfox · 25/05/2008 21:58

SFX is it the Manor Road allotment you are on the waiting list for?

I like the Pools cafe and spend at least an hour a week there with the DCs. Next week it will be 4 hours over the duration of the week!! The cafe staff are lovely and it seems reasonably comfy with lots of space for buggies etc. The changing rooms are great compared with some municipal pools we've been to recently!!

Strangley it didn't seem to rain much for us today, but I suspect it may have rained while we were in church

Thanks for your kind thoughts for DS2.

DS1 had a virus at the beginning of the week and DS2 then caught it, but got it much worse. I have been up the last four nights with a crying baby with a very high temperature. On Thursday evening he was so hot when he woke at about 3am that he had a febral [sp??} convulsion. [sp?]

It hit a peak yesterday when he woke in the morning covered in a rash, with a bloated mottled face and his eyes wouldn't open properly (all puffy) and he kept squinting and turning away from the light. He wouldn't stop crying and was completely confused and disorientated. (He seemed to be hallucinating at one point). I rang the NHS Direct line and they stayed on the line for about 20 minutes to see if the Ibuprophen I had given him would start to work and while I kept doing the glass test on his rash. Eventually the temperature started to go down and the crying was apparently a good sign so they made an emergency appointment for him to see a GP at West Mid'.

It was very upsetting - at one point the nurse at the end of the phone was one the verge of calling an ambulance for him.

I was on my own with 3 DCs and had to make a decision about whether to go to A&E, or just go ahead as normal and see what happened - to take DD to her Spanish class and whether to cancel my friend who was due to come for lunch. I went ahead wih both as DS2 had cooled down a bit and seemed a lot more orientated after the Ibuprophen kicked in.

My friend turned up for lunch and I was completely hyper and couldn't stop talking and fussing

I had visions of my friend coming to A&E with us but it didn't happen thnkfully.

DS2 is a lot better today I am relieved to say. I think yesterday was the fever breaking.

mellow2 · 26/05/2008 08:00

Foxie,
What you went through sounded really scary. I would have freaked too. I'm glad DS2 is better.

mellow2 · 26/05/2008 08:02

Oh,
I'm not starting on a contract after all as they won't pay what I'm asking for (even with a discount). I'm not really heartbroken about it though.

stepfordwife · 26/05/2008 10:23

ah, here you all are
scary when drop off 'threads you're on"

foxie, poor lamb - and poor you - what a fright for you both. i'm so glad he's feeling better, bless him.

and sj, god, yes, those seconds they're looking for a baby's heartbeat seem an eternity, don't they?

yes, i like pools at the park. very good for a local swimming pool. the food is fine but they used to do lovely turkish food and felt vaguely healthy giving them 'bread and dip" (pitta and hummous)

paddle, i'd be up for a splashabout some time - dd loves it..
oh, and am popping something in the post for you. wise words indeed...

talking of swimming, are your dcs having one-to-one lessons next week, foxie/ i did ask dh to book some but don't think he has.

been bit hectic with family over for meals and trying to fit in some work before dh goes off to new york tomorrow for work. moi?!
hmm. must do him that shoppig list....
toodlepip

sfxmum · 26/05/2008 10:26

good morning all
what typical bank holiday weather!

foxie that is so scary poor ds
the allotment is which ever we can get, last time we made enquires we were firmly told the lists were closed, we are now waiting for an email/ letter my guess is the wait is long.

mellow cost cutting at work it seems, sorry
SJ what is a Mears weekend? do they just get thrown into the wild?

stepfordwife · 26/05/2008 10:30

oh, anyone ever had a strained groin? (no giggling at the back)
my poor mum fell off her wedges ( i said NO GIGGLING..but, yes, couldn't help smiing at the idea of a 68-year-old fashion victim coming a cropper. awwwwww)
anyhow, she broke her elbow which is healig really well, but limping around and doctor reckons she strained her groin in her fall (shoes weren't that high, btw!)

anyhow, saw her for first time yesterday since she did it, and she's in agony and can barely walk. i'm worried it's something else - maybe her hip.

soooo
a) would it take a few days for pain from a strained groin to kick in? (did for ma)
b) was it terribly painful?
c) how long did it take to get better?
ta muchly

stepfordwife · 26/05/2008 10:32

sfx..i've got a sneaking desire for an allotment, too.
when we sort garden out, think i'll have a veggie patch.
dh thinks this is hilarious as can't even keep a house plant alive

SJ99 · 26/05/2008 10:33

Hello all

Foxie - glad DS2 is better, what scary ordeal for you though.

Mellow - sorry you didn't get contract, are you going to keep looking?

Sfx - Not sure what Mears trip will entail although it will all be outdoors, terrible weather for it, I guess will be tricky fire starting today

Think we'll play at home today, I'm full of a cold and do not have any plans to leave the house

Paddle - BTW had a look at the house, it looks lovely

SJ99 · 26/05/2008 10:36

Your poor mum Steppie, no idea about groin strain, maybe you could google it if you haven't already tried.

sfxmum · 26/05/2008 10:40

steppie your poor mum, naughty daughter you, maybe she should check the hip just in case, never had groin problems.
allotment is a bit of a dream, when we rented a place with a bit of garden we grew herbs tomatoes and courgettes.

SJ LOL at difficulty lighting a fire

paddle the house with the green door is really nice

stepfordwife · 26/05/2008 10:46

thanks, chaps. my sister said she'll take her back to hossie for an x-ray if doesn't improve by end of week.

yes, at trying to light a fire

and, mellow, sorry about the contract. there'll be others who'll pay what you want

stepfordwife · 26/05/2008 10:47

..she was walking much better after a glass of vino (or 5) after dh's fab lunch yesterday

rosmerta · 26/05/2008 10:51

morning all, dh & ds have gone out today, have no idea what time I'll see them. They've either gone to Brent Cross or to ILs. Bad person I am, I'm hoping its the ILs as then I'll have the whole day to myself!

Foxie, ds2's fever sounds very scary, am glad he's ok.

Sj, glad everything's ok with the baby. I always have that heartstopping moment until they find the heartbeat.

Steppie, probably a good idea for your mum to get checked out just in case. Hope she's ok.

Sfx, my friends had an allotment for a while. They ended up getting someone kicked off as they were stealing everyone else's vegetables!

OP posts:
fitfox · 26/05/2008 11:40

Steppy - oh your poor Mum Can't offer any advice I am afraid...try o lay off the rough sex maybe for a while ?

Did the cafe at Pools used to do Turkish food (Foxie suddenly wakes up at the thought of Turkish food)? Was it the same people - maybe we could both suggest they try it again for the summer?

DCs are doing 121 lessons next week, they find them really useful.

I have been very good and am swimming every day atm - at "my health club" (I sooo love saying that).

DS2 seems back to his normal Chubba self today, which is great. He is naturally a very happy little lad and we missed him when he was ill.

We have been hunting for First Holy Communion presents for DS1. Most of the items we have seen are just outragously tacky. Fake crystal Madonna's which light up etc - mind you I bet DD would like one of those [wink

rosmerta · 26/05/2008 11:56

foxie, when does ds1 take his first Holy Communion? I seem to remember getting a My First Bible and a Mass book as well as the usual. Must admit, haven't seen the light up Madonna's though

OP posts:
sfxmum · 26/05/2008 12:02

so what is wrong with a nice rosary and a bible? light up Madonas? the world is doomed!

I am off to Richmond to source stuff (technical term) for dd's cake she wants Thomas one again and this morning she said maybe an Upsy Daisy one I fear a nervous meltdown - chocolate flavoured

fitfox · 26/05/2008 12:51

Act was a slight exaggeration about the light up Madonna, but I am sure I saw one on Father Ted once

I did, I did, I did...

rosmerta · 26/05/2008 13:08

Can't find a light up statue but did find a light switch cover

OP posts:
Kewcumber · 26/05/2008 14:42

apddle - since having a shower with your DD at the pool last week, DS is now quite happy to get in the shower with me provided its not too strong.

Your Dd is obviously leading my poor boy astray...

sfxmum · 26/05/2008 15:03

It is wet out there! but strangely the buses were marvellous

anyway if you are a Catholic and have been to Fatima and Lourdes very little will shock you in way of tackiness, jaw dropping stuff.

Paddlechick666 · 26/05/2008 15:12

i like those alarm clocks with the muslim call to prayer as the alarm.

good to see you earlier kew. there was no parking ticket [relief]

dd now under a blanket with a biscuit watching Curious George. I keep forgetting I have to go away overnight tomorrow!

glad dd is leading ds astray LOL. she was heaps better herself in the shower yesterday too.

tbh, i think they have a good effect on each other. dd is a lot more water confident after last weekend.

foxie, glad to hear ds is back to his old self. amazing how quickly they bounce back.

sfx, impressed with your cake making skills. we might try to cobble together something this arvo.

mellow, shame about the contract but glad you're not overly concerned.

wonder how long dd will be inclined to lounge about quietly. it's really rather nice at the mo!

rosmerta · 26/05/2008 15:46

Paddle, sounds like a nice cosy afternoon!

Take it I'm the only one watching Sound of Music?
