Other thread full, so hope you all find me

Sushi, sorry I don't know anyone but there is a nanny agency near Kew Bridge. Hope ds is ok, typical of them to get ill at exactly the wrong time, isn't it?!

Foxie, we've sent off our form so am hoping we get our first choice (Weymouth)!

OP posts:
sfxmum · 13/05/2008 09:14

good morning all

paddle glad all is well, your dd is very sunny and lovely

mrsR chewing gum is vile still smarting from sitting on some in the bus years ago

bunyan have you been averaging 4hrs sleep? I hope you are taking it easy.

this morning I did 3 miles under 30mins which is really poor but great for me at the moment
must sort self out to take dd to pool

Kewcumber · 13/05/2008 09:50

quick update on teh big boys bed. Finally left DS at about 9pm and he was asleep at 9.10 I had to say to him in the end "Mummy is going to sit in the room next door because she is getting very cross with you and mummy doesn't want to shout at you " it did sort of work.

He slept until 6.30 when he joined me in bed - Angel!

He hasn;t quite got the hand of sleeping lengthwise though - I have to go in and rescue him draped halfway over the edge once he's asleep. I'm going to buy a CD for him and let him play music at bed time - we've always sung but I think we need to transition to mechanical props.

ComeOVeneer · 13/05/2008 10:05

Kew both ds and dd have music in their rooms, I guess a transition from musical mobiles. DD has cds which she can change herself, and ds has a tape player on top of the wardrobe, which we set! DS is also one to sleep in odd positions, he is often found head and shoulders on the bed, torso and legs drapped off the side onto the floor. It is amazing how they can stay asleep in those positions!

Kewcumber · 13/05/2008 10:07

DS was always overstimulated by music so it had to be kept to daytime (obviously he wasn;t used to bedtime music) but we've got so used to my singing to him now, I think it'd be a good time to try again. Someone has recommended a good bedtime cd which is supposed to be soothing so I'll try that.

Paddlechick666 · 13/05/2008 10:40

there is one advantage to having such an articulate child, if dd isn't so tired she's going to drop off quickly then i occasionally let her "read" a book to one of her, many, bedmates.

it's quite cute really to hear her.

again i'm lucky, she sleeps pretty hard and really doesn't move around too much.

she seems quite okay with sleeping in a big bed (with bed guard) at DMs place but going back in her cot at home.

Agent finally called. HA still keen but apparently year end is stuffing up getting the finance signed off

they've got some viewings lined up for ordinary punters which is good and apparently put the wind up the HA so finger's x'd it will all come good.

roll on august, i really want a holiday!

stepfordwife · 13/05/2008 10:44

mrsr, lol @ jimmy choos in the freezer!!!
when i'm a 'grown-up" keep promising to buy myself a pair of designer shoes
when you say you buy some in every colour when you spot a size 2 and your dd borrows them, too...i presume you're talking shoes generally and not jimmy choos?!

otherwise have this lovely mental image of you saying:'I ONLY wear jimmy choos, dahling" and your dd being the most well-shod girl at school ever

paddle, wait until dd is older and like, ds1 and ds2, can tell me in no uncertain terms when i'm being grumpy. ds1's fave is a particularly withering:'you're such a moody woman, mum."
and there's me thinking i'm a little ray of sunshine..
fingers crossed the HA get back to you today...

kew, good work on the big bed front. i know getting dd to stay in her own bed all night is on my (ever-expanding) 'to-do" list...

especially since yesterday morning heard her telling dh her's got to move into her bed, while she moves into 'mummy's bed"

enjoy the sunshine, everyone. sadly i'm stuck at my desk or i'd love to join you swimming, sfx.
toodlepip

stepfordwife · 13/05/2008 10:47

paddle, that's just so cute listening to them talking to themselves and their role-play, isn't it? dd does a roll call of everyone she knows and goes off into her fantasy world..

of course, then my next emotion is guilt; er, should i be playing with her more so she doesn't have to resort to a one-toddler show?

stepfordwife · 13/05/2008 10:50

oh, and i'd forgotten your bro was a builder. thanks for that but, having used a friend once at our last place to do some bulding work, swore would never use family/friends/family and friends of friends again
no reflection on your bro, tho..

speaking of building, does anyone know if ity's important/how important it is builders belong to the federation of master builders, whatever it's called.
am going to talk to council's planning dept, but if anyone has any wise (wise-ish will suffice) words, that'll be fab.

Paddlechick666 · 13/05/2008 10:51

lol steppie, i am indeed going to have to toughen up as i think dd won't think twice about telling me how it really is!

again i am very lucky in that dd rarely asks to come into my bed. could all change once she's free of the cot tho.

we had a minor paddy last night over new pink pj's. a 2 pair pack so i mixed and matched the barbie pink shorts with a hot pink t shirt. oh my lord, you would've though Gok was in the room dd was utterly horrified.

had to have a very quick style lesson on how different shades of anything can compliment each other. poor dd having to take style tips from her baggage of a mother LOL!

luckily she was mollified otherwise i would've expected to be lifting a large piece of bubblicious chewing gum out of her cot this morning.

cue sleepy "mummy, does these cot bars match my sheet?, "yes honey, white and brown go with just about everything!!"

stepfordwife · 13/05/2008 11:32

oh god, dd insists on choosing her own clothes, too. often i just let her get on with it. you've got to choose your battles, eh?
mind you, then can't stop myself tellng people defensively: "chose them herself...nothing to do with me.."

and, of course, head-to-foot pink is always to be strongly resisted

MrsRecycle · 13/05/2008 11:38

steppie lol at me wearing only JC's - wouldn't that be nice alas I possess only 2 pairs of them. FMB is good but doesn't count for much unless you want to meet Sarah Beeny at their Ball (which I did when I attended it). But quite reputable. I know a good builder - has a dd same age as my ds - he did my sis extension and was brilliant considering he is f of family. I'll email you his number. He lives in Hanworth.

pc - seeing Gok made me remember I saw a turkish lorry on the m25 called Gokkiller.com (or so I thought) when I looked closser it was Gokciller.com.

stepfordwife · 13/05/2008 11:56

what a shame, mrsR,,was looking forward to tellng everyone i know someone who only wears jimmy choos
thanks so much for FMB tip and tia for builder's no.

actually i'd love to meet the beeny..was she nice? was she wearing JCs?

stepfordwife · 13/05/2008 11:57

oohh, number already emailed..
you're efficient!
thanks muchly

MrsRecycle · 13/05/2008 11:59

I was too drunk to remember - mind you from my position underneath the Christmas Tree I could have check out her shoes, had I not had double vision.

stepfordwife · 13/05/2008 12:08

sounds like my sort of party

Paddlechick666 · 13/05/2008 12:18

steppie, appreciate your perspective on using family/friends for building work etc.

am a bit relieved actually. i bashed off my "bro is a builder" a bit hastily as i would be mortified if you employed him and he stuffed up!

lol @ toddler guilt. i get it too when i hear her telling whatever baby/teddy/rabbit/monkey "behave or i will be very cross with you!"

rosmerta · 13/05/2008 13:30

hi all, nice to see I've been missed

Cov, hope ds's behaviour is getting better

Paddle, still have my fingers crossed for you re HA.

Kew, am watching bed developments with interest, considering moving ds to a bed at some point over the summer.

Well, we've got our Sun holiday, four days at Butlins Minehead in Devon! Am hoping the weather stays nice for then.

Think that's all about my news, not a very exciting life atm

OP posts:
SJ99 · 13/05/2008 14:32

Hello all

of hols Ros, I went to Minehead Butlins when I was 11 for a school trip and loved it! Don't think we'll be going away anywhere this year apart from to festival

PC - good luck with HA, keep on their backs hope it works out for you

MrsR - ta for no. LOL at shoes in freezer!

Steppie - LOL at DD wanting to move into your bed, savvy girl! Don't think we'll be moving DS to bed anytime soon, too much going on atm.

Think I will book 2.5yr review, nothing to lose have I?

Kewcumber · 13/05/2008 14:44

I'll be doing the 2.5 review SJ

stepfordwife · 13/05/2008 14:53

i was never offered a 2.5 check (or dd for that matter...)
don't think i've ever had any checks since her 6-week one..
have we slipped through the net?!

mind you, ds1 and ds2 always refused to to "perform" at these things, although i knew they could do it.

hi ros and SJ

ho-hum, back to work..

don't know what's wrong with me today. feel v. tired..like i've been drugged. hmm, actually that cup of tea dh made me earlier tasgted a bit funny....

Paddlechick666 · 13/05/2008 15:00

i haven't been offered a 2.5yr one either. dd had her 8m check and i made a quick visit to HV when we moved to isleworth but nothing since then.

i say slipping thru the net is a good thing!

steppie, i've felt like for the last few days!

stepfordwife · 13/05/2008 15:04

yes, net slippage OK by me.
quick snooze at our desks, paddle?
Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Paddlechick666 · 13/05/2008 15:23

actually, today's the first day i've felt even moderately awake!

must be that pecan pie i had from pret for lunch

sfxmum · 13/05/2008 15:44

hello all swimming was great and after lunch we walked up to kew, spent a lovely time reading magazines lying on our picnic blanket.

steppie/ paddle dd talks to herself and that is a very important development stage, some 'boredom' stimulates imaginations and the start of independence.
not one for constantly presenting dd with 'stimulating' activities makes for cranky kids imo.

dd currently obsessed with the name Gertrude and names every doll after it in turns

she told dh the other day
'you must not throw it on the floor it is very rude I am not happy with that behaviour. that is him sorted

hi to everyone else too

sfxmum · 13/05/2008 15:46

am in a panic about the essay now, very overdue
just not been sleeping lately and completely unable to focus - that is my excuse anyway
