By the way has anyone ever got any nice books in the bookstart packages? I must say if they keep giving us books like those we got it's a wonder anyone ever wanted to learn to read ...

sfxmum · 30/03/2008 19:07

am sure my last post is incomprehensible had dd jumping on my lap pushing the screen to make it go ping mummy typing

lovely day yes sounds like the weather is getting better.

will not even attempt bedtime until 8.30 today

sfxmum · 30/03/2008 19:09

slng the books we got at 2.5 review were far too basic for dd she likes proper stories, we never really had baby books.

ComeOVeneer · 30/03/2008 19:16

HI all. Had a lovely weekend here. Took dd swimming yesterday whilst dh had some "boys time" with ds. Sat afternoon was supposed to be a bike ride but the rain set in so we played board games, watch a movie and ate popcorn. The neighbour's son baby sat last night so dh and I could go to my friend's birthday. She cooked a fab curry (well 3 actually) for about 25 of us. Much champagne and wine was drunk and we got home well past midnight. Feel surprisingly fine today though. Managed the bike ride and have just had a delicious roast (pork) with roast pots/paRSNIPS/SWEET POTS, LEEK AND GRUYERE GRATIN, HONEY GLAZED CARROTS (oops), gravy and yorkshires (dd insists we have them with every roast). Then baked apples with homemade mincemeat and vanilla cream. (anyone drooling). Dh has just bathed the children whilst I tided up and is now reading them a bedtime story. Only disappointment is no LOST tonight .

Have seen Lemoaids photos of new dd, lovely.

Kew hope you managed to rest and recuperate this weekend, was Wales good?

SJ99 · 30/03/2008 19:32

Well just put DS to bed as he was v.tired (he's always wiped out when daddy about at wkend), but weird as it's so light! I made my own recipe butternut squash lasagne for tea tonight, yum.

LOL Slng at books. Do you think you'll take DS2 swimming regularly? What are bookstart packages?

Glad you enjoyed sling meet Paddle, I'm finding it is really hard to have a conversation and appease LO at same time especially if we go somewhere new & exciting.

Hi Bluey, welcome, sorry can't help either but maybe your GP could refer someone to you?

My bro bought his flat about 4yrs ago & thought his problems with weird neighbour were over a few wks ago. He said all he can do is complain to housing people tomorrow & leave it their hands

slng · 30/03/2008 19:44

SJ bookstart is some government type thing which explains why it's so tepid (at least in my experience). See www.bookstart.co.uk. I think you can pick up free packs at libraries at certain times. We get them from nursery. But they are a lot of junk plus a couple of books. Mustn't be ungrateful I suppose, but we do sincerely want STORIES, not some lines that seemed to be written by someone on commission.

fitfox · 30/03/2008 20:02

Hi Bluey.

This is a doctor I would recommend. He was fab with my friend's pregnancy complications and he is a pioneer in his field:

www.tatler.co.uk/Doctors/2007/details.aspx?d=905

You can also see him or his team on the NHS if you have a high risk pregnancy by asking your GP to refer you to Kings College Hospital, where he also works for the NHS. His private clinic is fab - I went there for my scans, and all their profits go back into research into fetal medicine.

Bluey do you have red hair by any chance?

Well we are all packed. I had a lovely swim this arvo at my health club with a friend - very invigorating.

Hi everyone else - will pop back later to catch up and find Lemonaid's DD on FB.

We were in Tesco yesterday and DS2 was grizzling. I said "shall I get him soemething to make him happy" (meaning some baby biscuits).

DS1: "that's a good idea. Can we get him a wide-screen high-definition TV?"

fitfox · 30/03/2008 20:05

SFX - yes but what does she think about Sarkozy's visit?

Paddle - when you have read all those parenting books, can you please do a summary for me of all the tips?

sfxmum · 30/03/2008 20:26

she doesn't like right wingers going through a mid life crisis and he is too loud anyway

fitfox · 30/03/2008 22:14

I totally agree with her!

mellow2 · 31/03/2008 09:27

Welcome Bluey.

I had a fab private obstetrician. He specialises in pregnancy complications. I had a difficult birth with DD. If it weren't for him, I would have had DD by caesarean rather than ventouse.

His name is Donald Gibbs. This is his website.

mellow2 · 31/03/2008 09:28

Have a great holiday, foxie.

Got to go and see Lemonaid's baby pics.

mellow2 · 31/03/2008 09:30

Ok.

I can't find Lemonaid's profile. I think she changed her nickname. Could someone be kind enough to do a link?

ComeOVeneer · 31/03/2008 09:44

Mellow do you have FB she has posted pics on there?

ComeOVeneer · 31/03/2008 09:47

Birth story here. No pics though on her profile.

SushiMummy · 31/03/2008 11:09

Morning all. I'm back! Had a fab time in Japan.

Any news or gossip to share? (sorry, haven't had time to read the whole thread)

Hope you all had a nice Easter break.

sfxmum · 31/03/2008 12:14

good afternoon all

hi sushi welcome back glad to hear you had a nice time.can't think of gossip all very boring really, shocking weather with snow over Easter.

mellow just occurred to me I forgot to pick up my books from you

MrsRecycle · 31/03/2008 12:25

hi bluey and welcome - I used Dr Donald Gibb here - a lovely man and really reassured me although I had CS on NHS as I have always had brilliant care under them.

KC - hope you are feeling better - flu is awful when you've got to deal with LOs isn't it?

Had a lovely weekend at the van - DDs spent both days in the swimming pool. I went to a spa on Saturday whilst ds and dh bonded and had such a lovely facial I fell asleep.

LOs had a lovely boogie at the clubhouse and then played some skittles with loads of other kids on the Sunday.

Clock change - I think I was the only one who remembered - I did it before I went to bed and was the first person in the shop taking ds for a walk in the morning. Oh and the weather was glorious, my df's were on the beach with their LOs.

MrsRecycle · 31/03/2008 12:25

Snap mellow! He's lovely isn't he?

slng · 31/03/2008 12:51

Where has ds1 hid his water bottle?

Paddlechick666 · 31/03/2008 13:04

under the sofa?

SJ99 · 31/03/2008 13:10

Welcome back Sushi, glad you had a good trip, bet DS was spoilt rotten!

Soudns like you had lovely wkend too MrsR, it did start to feel warmer this weekend didn't it?

Slng - did you find it?!

Went to visit a pre-school this morning which was lovely. DS had a massive full-on tantrum when it was time to leave, I'm taking this as a good sign that he wanted to stay longer The only thing is (why is there always a catch?), this place has opted out of Early years, does this mean I can still claim govt funding for DS place? I will check with council but thought I'd ask in case anyone knows the answer...

rosmerta · 31/03/2008 13:53

hi all, seems like everyone had a good weekend.

Kew, hope you're feeling better

Sushi, glad you had a good trip

I don't know if we've got different books but in the bookstart packs we've always had decent ones that ds has loved! Sj, you should be able to get them from the library/

We've had my parents down this weekend, dh took them & ds to the farm in Hounslow while I tried to catch up on some sleep. Ds has been having some very early mornings but the last couple of days has slept later so fingers crossed there'll be no more 5am starts!

slng · 31/03/2008 13:54

It is under the sofa! Well done Paddle! I did look there earlier (EVERYTHING ends up under the sofa) but somehow missed it but found 2 buses, 3 heavy machineries, 5 lego blocks and one fluffy slipper.

SJ - sorry don't know about the early years thing. Didn't think you could opt out, whatever it is exactly.

mellow2 · 31/03/2008 13:56

MrsR,
Yes, he was lovely. Strange we went to see the same obs and did not realise it.

Bluey,
Sorry for misspelling. As MrsR said, it's Gibb not Gibbs.

As part of the house doctoring, dd inadvertently got her own room. It was just less expensive to turn the spare room into DD's room and not a guest room.

I got really emotional about it. DD, on the other hand, was absolutely fine and went to sleep without a problem. She's been sleeping in my room for the past 2 years and we both really missed her last night.

But I was also really happy to get my room back. It's such a luxury to be able to read in bed again and spend hours pampering myself in the ensuite without worrying about waking her up.
