hello all

bunyanvillas · 14/03/2008 15:27

Hello all, how's it going? V quiet day here in the bunyan household, I'm knackered and poor dd is sitting in front of the telly! (bad mother alert) Foxie, your floorboards sound v nice. SFX - yes, blackout blinds are the way forward - OR you can get regular curtains and affix blackout linings to them, I got some really nice ones in the Aspace sale and then attached blackout linings and it has worked a treat.

fitfox · 14/03/2008 16:59

How are you feeling Bunyan?

I don't think we've actually met yet have we?

WTF is everyone else today then?

Floors are sanded, DH is hoovering and wiping them

Lovely CM bought me some Lemsip Max

I have painted the downstairs loo door and a large shelf and watched lots of daytime TV oh and drank loads of Decaff cappucino

what an exciting life I lead...

sfxmum · 14/03/2008 17:10

speaking for me I am going mad stuck indoor, no amount of bribery cajoling is moving dd out of the house, I guess she got stuck after feeling poorly earlier in the week, which was fine as the weather was awful anyway but heck!
and dh appears to be working tomorrow as wellrant over

sanded floors you say foxie how nice

hi bunyan maybe we could swap kids as mine seems perfectly happy that way.

stepfordwife · 14/03/2008 17:14

hi everyone
how we all diddlng?
Oh My (in context) God

a gal turns her back and the conversation's gone from schools to religion..

kew, re your question about dcs being baptised. ds1 baptised as a catholic and haven't baptised ds2 and dd yet, but want to. my mum questions why i want to as i don't go to church, etc (no pressure on that front from ma, tho, as she spent her childhood getting beaten up by nuns at her convent. the mother superiors once pushed my mum down a flight of stone stairs breaking her leg)

but i think it's the deep-rooted genetic/cultural/spiritual guilt from my irish catholic background whuch has seeped into my consciousness

if you're a good person with a good soul, it's irrelavant, what faith you are or if you've got one at all, imo.

anyhow, have you spoken to your ma more about her letter, kew? can understand why you're upset and angry (sure i would be too). but once you start writing about something - or someone - you love so much, your feelings just come tumbling out, don't they?

you're ds' mother and any decisions are yours obviously, but you and your mum are both coming from the same starting point - how much you love ds (and how much she loves you) and how you both want the best for him. but you know that..

stepfordwife · 14/03/2008 17:22

..hello foxie

a very productive day, i'd say!
glad your throat is feeling better..

bunyan..iirrc, you're irish, aren't you?

sfx, tedious being housebound, isn't it but any time you're on my patch (guv) give me a shout..

dh and i are off for the weekend tomorrow to a posh (ish) hotel as it's our wedding anniversary on mon. my ma and sister are looking after the brood between them.
AND I CAN'T - FOUL LANGUAGE ALERT - F*@** WAIT!!!

have a good weekend everyone
take care
c
x

slng · 14/03/2008 17:22

Hello!

Just back from the supermarket - quite a long trip on account of having TWO conversations with two complete strangers about speaking to dc in Chinese ... DC's tea finally bubbling on the hob and Thomas-tank-engine on too to silence hungry monsters.

slng · 14/03/2008 17:23

Steppie - how many years?

stepfordwife · 14/03/2008 17:28

sing, 7 years and 13 years together..
..mandarin or cantonese?

sfxmum · 14/03/2008 17:30

it is our 6th anniversary on the 20th, I always say it feels much longer than that because it does really we have lived together for nearly 13 yrs

steppie congratulations enjoy the break

sent an SOS to dh he seems to be coming home now

sfxmum · 14/03/2008 17:33

slng I think there is a new Thomas theme park in Staffordshire I think, watched it in the news, complete with real life Fat controller

  • what does it do for his self esteem being called that by a bunch of toddlers every single day
  • am clearly bored
slng · 14/03/2008 17:41

mandarin

stepfordwife · 14/03/2008 17:44

thanks, sfx...would be churlish not to

bunyanvillas · 14/03/2008 19:49

SFX, we should have hooked up today - have had THE most boring day of SAHM-dom yet - combination of feeling totally exhausted and just not getting it together. Did manage to nip out for some party tights for dd for a wedding tomorrow. Foxie, am of your painting escapades - have loads of that to do here but the bump is too big for me to do any diy, bah! Yes, we have met but it was v brief at Escale all that time ago when you had a middling sized bump, yourself! Steppie, yes, I am Irish. But the whole religion thing gets me all het up. I had dd christened, was going to church regularly (was brought up as a church goer) - but have actually stopped all that now as the whole thing makes me think TOO much about the woes of the world and .. well I won't go on about it. Can be a tricky subject. Each to their own, I say. Anyway - moving on - have just realised that today has passed with no cake. Sheesh! I knew something wasn't right.

sfxmum · 14/03/2008 21:17

she hid her shoes[shoes]
I got them 'I want them hided' dd said

btw this Rugby thing tomorrow is it at Twickers?

fitfox · 14/03/2008 22:09

Oh Gawd I hope its not at Twickers SFX!!!

Steppy many congrats - you are a luvverly family - enjoy your dirty weekend posh break with DH

I am blardy knackered - have just painted floor of big room - two coats, Joy Division playing loudly to give me energy but no glug glug to keep me going, as it would've made me sloppy in my handiwork. Lordy my bones ache and the horrid sore throat has been aggravated by paint smell Halo

I wonder if one can get "essence of Farrow and Ball oil based eggshell" in one's breast milk just by inhaling it? If DS2 is high tonight I will know why!

Its the "master bedroom" (I hate that term) floor we've painted so DH and DS1 are having a sleepover on the sofas downstairs tonight, while DD, DS2 and I camp in the DCs room upstairs. Its the nearest we get to going on holiday ATM

It will look nice when its done but its been hard work. DH is all dusty and grey looking from sanding the floors!!

Paddlechick666 · 14/03/2008 22:18

steppie - I do understadn that my mum is working from a position of what she thinks is best for us, however she knoes she isnlt going to get her way and so has resorted to these emotionally blackmailing kind of approaches to tyr and get what she wants.

Listing me as one of the reasons DS is disadvantaged wasn't ever going to be a good way to get me onside.

She isn't religious, it isn't about religion. It's about conforming. She is terrified that DS is going to be different (which in her eyes is the worst possible thing to be) and has it in her head that getting christening is going to make him more like all the other children he will go to school with.

It seems a bit unlikely unless he's going to school in the 1950's.

mellow2 · 15/03/2008 06:58

Congrats and enjoy your break, steppie.

Well done, foxie. I'm sure your bedroom floor looks lovely.

ComeOVeneer · 15/03/2008 10:32

Morning all. Cupcakes went down a storm last night. Am feeling most bleary eyed as we didn't get home until nearly 1am. (the children kept going until almost midnight, it was a fab party) The children only woke up at gone 9.30am, and I suspect ds will need a sleep this afternoon. DH and dd have gone swimming and I am about to make another load of cupcakes for another family get together tomorrow (some relatives of dh's are over from Israel so there are about 30 of us descending on his parents for lunch, so its all eggs, flour, butter and half a tonne of sugar here again .

Happy anniversary Steppy and SFX. A mere 6/7 years and 13 together (pah) , we are coming up to our 8th wedding anniversary and 17 years together! One more year and I will have been with dh half my life!

Foxy I love the sound of your white floor boards, sounds so freah and peaceful (wouldn't work in a modern house like mine though). I am itching to do some redecoration, but dh isn't keen/doesn't think it necessary. I have the mundane stuff to do like paint the utility room white and put up shelving/storage (it is currently bright yellow and orange in a small room with no windows).

I want to tackle the living room, a very bold wallpaper in the alcoves either side of the chimney breast, have wooden floors instead of carpet and replace the sofas which the children and cats have wrecked. Does anyone know if cats claw leather or will they leave it alone?

Anyway enough of my ramblings . Good luck for the rugby paddle/kew (and any other supporters).

Hope everyone has a fab weekend.

sfxmum · 15/03/2008 10:37

good morning all{smile]
did anyone mention a dirty weekend?

foxie it is the joy of getting something done, should be ok.
best of luck for the game for those interest in such matters Wales V who? France?

well there were firemen in the basement just now breaking into the meter boxes, no smoke.
still an evacuation order might get dd out.

dh has been lovely today, let me sleep when dd woke up at 7, woke me up in time for my jog, then made ice lollies and playdough for& with dd while I was out, not to mention cleaning the kitchen afterwards and has now gone to work - bless him almost perfect

sfxmum · 15/03/2008 10:49

posted on wrong thread earlier

anyone interested in seeing Leonard Cohen with me if I get tickets and dh does not want to go?

COV I would take it personally if after all that effort they did not like the cupcakes.

and as for leather is says cats will wreck anything. and husbands never think anything needs decorating ever afaik

rosmerta · 15/03/2008 11:18

Hi all, was in Manchester on a study day yesterday which is why I've not been around.

Dh has just taken ds to the park & I'm meant to be tidying up, apparently dh can't look after ds and tidy up as well!

Anyway, will have a read at some point & catch up!

fitfox · 15/03/2008 12:10

SFX you just said: "did anyone mention a dirty weekend?

foxie it is the joy of getting something done"

Uh?

QC - LOL I agree about 1950's - being a christian will make your DS the odd one out in most UK 2008 contexts. Anyqway there is nothing wrong with not conforming I have been trying to not conform all my life

CoV like the idea of your new room -sounds very plush.

I was so knackered last night with tonislitis and having done loads of painting (still nto completed - have to do 3rd coat tonight and move all furniture back tomorrow) - I would have slept very well on the Dcs floo but DS2 just wimpered all night - waking hourly and howling I could do with a lie down

Now DS2 has infected spots on his face and an infected finger - not sure where these suddenly appeared from! Have bunged Fucidin on and will take him round to pharmacist later as GP all shut and there is a 2 hr wait at the drop in clinic. (2hrs wait sitting down would be fine if I could go on my own with a good book but I am alone with 3 DCs today so cannot face it)
