it is actually very difficult for me to fully appreciate the relationship of an adult woman with her mother, mine died when I was 15. but from what I can tell it is always an emotionally charged one and I suppose a lot 'transference' goes on

do you know what she thinks is wrong with you? might just be her anxiety
is it ever possible to have a reasoned discussion with ones own parents over such subjects?

Kewcumber · 13/03/2008 14:48

I suspect that she thinks because I am fat and not ever always very well groomed that I will not be like the other Kew mummies.

She is fat herself and has huge issues about it (as do I of course but I particularly need her adding to them!)

I think I am too angry to be sensible about it at the moment. Putting up with her accidentally calling herself "mummy" is irritating enough a whole letter about my failing is too much.

I just find the whole thing barking mad when she didn;t get me christened!

sfxmum · 13/03/2008 14:54

Kew mummies? as she met me?

anyway on an entirely separate issue and wildly excited to see good old Leonard Cohen is coming to Britain for gigs please let him play the festival I booked and not just Glasto.

sfxmum · 13/03/2008 14:54

has

Kewcumber · 13/03/2008 14:54

I didn;t realise he was still alive

OP posts:
sfxmum · 13/03/2008 15:01

he is 75 and his accountant stole all his money while he was at some Buddhist retreat the poor man deserved a quiet retirement
(obviously religion bad for you)

Kewcumber · 13/03/2008 15:02

I'll tell my mum

Hi QC,
Dh who belongs to CoE refuses to have DD christened, despite his parents' objections, as he's non practising. I am agnostic.

sfxmum · 13/03/2008 15:44

on yet another subject (can you tell I am bored? dd refuses to go out and I am not yet resorting to bribery}

anyway can you recommend a nice restaurant around Ealing Broadway, preferably quiet for an early dinner on a thursday

TIA

ComeOVeneer · 13/03/2008 15:53

LOL sfx. Sorry you are having such a hard time of it Kew. I really cn't believe he will be in any way disadvantaged. However my religious background is vvery varied. MY mother is catholic, my father CofE (both now lapsed). My father converted in order to marry my mother. Neither my sister nor I were baptised as children. I decided to be both christened and confirmed (CofE) at 13. DH is jewish (had a Bris and a barmitzvah). We both ahave been non church/synagogue attenders for many years and tbh I am pretty much a non beliver now a days. DH still holds the jweish culture and values very close to his heart but isn't religious nor keeps kosher (his mother wasn't best pleased with him marrying a non-jew (which probably explains a lot )). We were married in a civil ceremony, and our children have not been christened, had a bris etc.

To cut a long story short, I plan to allow my children to explore and discover all religions to their hearts content and will help them to do so if they so wish, and see where that takes them.

slng · 13/03/2008 16:04

Religion is one thing, but if any of my children should even contemplate joining the tories ...

sfx - what type of food do you like? My favourites: Gino (italian, never looks open, but if you do get in it's very good), Okawari (Japanese), Momo (Japanese but north Ealing), Kayam (Lebanese). Then there are the usual suspects - Carluccio, Hare and Tortoise, Fat Boy's etc ... Sorry must go - Thomas tank engine finished!

sfxmum · 13/03/2008 16:16

COV are all the cupcakes iced?

slng thanks for that knowing dh he will go for Italian not a fan of fish huge fan of pasta.
btw I posted a few questions for Dave
like said BORED

dd now wants to go to Kew Gardens, well we need liners for our curtains she is starting to wake up too early,
'look mummy it's morning' this should be fun with sunrise at 5am

fitfox · 13/03/2008 16:56

QC I can understand now why your Mum has upset you - a three page letter is a bit heavy is it not? I can appreciate why she cares about your DS but can't really understand why she thinks being christened will make a jot of difference TBH, given you are both atheist anyway!! Is this a displaced annoyance about some wider issues or something (confused as to her strength of feeling when she is not a christian herself).

There are now more Catholics than CoE in the UK thanks to the influx of our Eastern European colleagues so on the basis of her arguement, your DD should be baptised catholic so he fits in (Aha, another convert methinks gleefully!!)

Slng - do you meet Lebanese Karam? BTW The Japanese on Bond Street, Ealing, is supposed to be fabulous

SFX we got blackout blinds for the DC's room - it has made a lot of difference. £9 from Argos and worth every penny!

slng · 13/03/2008 18:26

Foxie - I probably do mean Karam ... It's at least the 4th restaurant on the site in 8 years, all of them pretty good ... Okawari on Bond st is good - we are regulars there and they like the kids! We (our NCT group) rented their private function room once - 12 grown-ups, 6 3-yr-olds and 4 babies, and they didn't even charge for the room or ban us from the place afterwards!

I swear by Argos blackout blinds too!

sfxmum · 13/03/2008 18:48

slng/ foxie thanks for tip, how long are those black out blinds? my windows are floor to ceiling

must have a look later

slng · 13/03/2008 19:32

sfx - then you want this:

www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/50078058

sfxmum · 13/03/2008 20:50

dh still grumpy so glad he can still booted out to what will be dd's room
at this rate she will be a teenagers before I summon up the courage to make the change

fitfox · 13/03/2008 21:16

A few weeks ago I gave DD my old bear to cuddle - the one I used to have as a child. It has no eyes, ears or paws left, but she loves it.

Tonight she asked for one of her own toys to cuddle as well. It's a dismembered head (a hairdressing head).

DD "Mummy, please can I have my head and shoulders and boobies to cuddle?"

fitfox · 13/03/2008 21:20

SFX the longest ones are the bamboo blackout blinds (quite nice actually) 72 inches long or just over 180cm

fitfox · 13/03/2008 21:21

fitfox · 13/03/2008 21:43

ooh not very cuddly at all SFX!

DS2 is playing the recorder - does this mean his is "gifted and talented"?

sfxmum · 13/03/2008 21:48

dd has a recorder and puffs away very loudly naming random songs she is purposefully playing, shame on me who only hears random shrieks - total genius she is

Paddlechick666 · 14/03/2008 10:45

Grand Slam tomorrow! the GPs have sent dd a wales shirt to wear.

fitfox · 14/03/2008 11:06

Hi Paddle

I was thinking of you this morning as DH is sanding our bedroom floor. Am going to paint the floorboards white for the summer

Still have a throat full of razor blades but am feeling slightly more human again today. Luckily am on annual leave today anyway.
