i'm back to toying with my south of france idea for may. the motorail thru france sounds fab but phew it's expensive. the thought of schlepping to stansted when i live next to heathrow is just silly tho.

maybe i should look at destinations from heathrow then choose where to go LOL!

good point re: burger night. i had forgotten. most weds suit me......

Kewcumber · 12/03/2008 11:33

think we might have to arrange two nights - I absolutely can't ever do Weds. Thurs, Fri Sat are OK for me.

Fltered I don't know about Richmond but the good stuff in Kew is still going as fast as it ever did provided its not a silly price. Why not ask and agent who isn't the agent for the house you're interested in?

OP posts:
Paddlechick666 · 12/03/2008 11:37

i'll go on me own then [huff huff]

!

mellow2 · 12/03/2008 11:57

filtered,
My understanding is that the asking prices have stayed the same but the offers are coming in at 5% to 10% lower than the asking price.

A good agent should be able to tell you what a seller would accept.

A good indication is to look up sold prices of similar properties on www.houseprices.co.uk in the last 3 months.

Kewcumber · 12/03/2008 12:01

Paddle - I'm sure someone else will want to go on a Weds! Sadly it's the day Ma has DS and a) I think she needs a break by 6.30pm and he's a mare to get to bed! and b) it means she either has to come to my house for the evening and lose her parking space at home or take him over to her house and get up at the crack of dawn (for her) to take him to CM.

Paddlechick666 · 12/03/2008 12:04

we should go for lunch sometime y'know. the kids would love it.

Kewcumber · 12/03/2008 12:10

oooh yes dahhling - lets do lunch

Still have memories of lunch the other week with Steppie and ganag... D'you think the cafe staff have recovered yet?

OP posts:
Paddlechick666 · 12/03/2008 12:24

actually, that cafe is closed now. sign on the door saying "mental health issues brought on by rampaging toddlers"

sfxmum · 12/03/2008 16:24

my entertainment for today was watching the Budget, granted I would usually try and catch it but it was the highlight of my day

serious cabin fever

slng · 12/03/2008 17:19

My entertainment of the day is to decide whether to buy a sewing machine and if so which one to buy ... Anyone has any advice? I've got the most gorgeous curtain fabric waiting to be made into curtains for the kids' room ...

sfxmum · 12/03/2008 17:52

my mum had a Singer but I have no idea what goes today, maybe start a thread on Crafts?

you really just getting ready for Book day aren't you?

slng · 12/03/2008 18:21

sfx - there's a thread on crafts about sewing machine but it's all gobbledegook to me. Never own one, never used one, but optimistically thinking how hard can it be! (Ironically my aunt used to make clothes professionally and I used to help out with almost everything except the sewing.) Maybe I'll go to John Lewis and ask them ...

fitfox · 12/03/2008 18:54

SFX what is your DDs analysis of the Budget then?

Slng - did you know there is a website which tells you how to make curtains. Can get you name if you like (if I can remember...). My neighbour can also make them up for you.

I used to do loads of sewing (used to do fashion Design) and make all my own clothes etc. Now I can't even be botehred to sew buttons back on (or rather can't find the time/cotton/scissors)

Pads do you want to pop over and get that stuff sometime - wld be nice to see you - or I can come to you sometime...

I feel all fluey today with sore throat DS1 had his assembly this morning which was lovely. I really miss seeing the Mums in his class. When they were in Reception everyone bonded and now they are in Juniors no one really stops to chat in playground - I quite liked all the morning gossip chats

Steppy did I tell you I have been asked to join a Filmclub in Kew - mainly Mums from your school and Sheen Mount.

Glug Glug

slng · 12/03/2008 19:22

foxie - I've found a website about making curtains, and also picked up a second-hand book about DIY - quite a handy book but all the deco in the pictures are horrendous! Anyway I used to get other people to sew tacked-up curtains etc but maybe it's time to do it myself. I think I might just get the cheapest sewing machine to start with ...

Glug glug sounds about right ...

fitfox · 12/03/2008 21:06

Have just made DS1 a Ben 10 outfit and he has written and illustrated his own Ben 10 Book

DD is cinderella with a black wig - actually a witches wig un skillfully cut into a bob shape

sfxmum · 12/03/2008 21:17

foxie funny you should ask, she thought they were having a party, more like a larf!

slng my mum used to make clothes professionally she ended up having a kids clothes shop, most made by herself and a few other women and apprentices, not too mention me earning pocket money from sewing buttons etc.

I must go jog tomorrow and must get out of the house with dd no matter what, she has been very funny and very full on toddler today.

dh is playing with his new toy just got his new laptop, but why does he have to be in the same room as me? do you think if I ignore him he will go away

I need time alone

sfxmum · 12/03/2008 21:18

what is Ben 10? is that literature for over 5's?

ComeOVeneer · 12/03/2008 21:21

Very creative foxie. Dh had the cheek to come home early from work as he has "man-flu", so spoilt my peaceful childfree day. Managed to get some of the cupcake made for Friday and will finish them off tomorrow.

mellow2 · 13/03/2008 08:32

sfx,
I can't do Tue now. I'm available Mon, Thu and Fri next week.

Let me know.

I'm the world's worst seamstress. I took Domestic Science at school and I made this wonky blouse that did not have matching sleeves and a collar that was wide on one end and narrow on the other.

So lots of respect to people who can sew. DD will certainly getting store bought costumes.

slng · 13/03/2008 08:34

Good morning all!

sfx - I found that the exposure to "professional" stuff when I was young simply served to mystify things - eg I always thought making cakes was enormously difficult and you have to have some special secret knowledge, and only my aunt can do it! Same with making clothes/cooking curry etc ... Does you a world of good to leave home and try it yourself when you are desperate! (And I didn't get paid for helping sewing on buttons either. So unfair!)

Why oh why do I bother reading/posting on the bilingual thread!?

slng · 13/03/2008 08:39

mellow - I didn't do domestic science in school even! I can only sew straight lines, which is all you need for curtains. I hope.

sfxmum · 13/03/2008 09:10

good morning all

feel like I achieved something already, been out for quick jog leaving grumpy toddler with grumpy dh

mellow I think Monday will work best but will keep you informed.

slng have the bilingual threads been very clique like?

I never really felt mystified by mum's skills just not very interested she used to help us make our dolls clothes but we had to cut them etc. so I have a fair idea of how things work.

Kewcumber · 13/03/2008 09:39

are you causing trouble on teh bilingual thread slng?

OP posts:
slng · 13/03/2008 09:40

sfx - well done for leaving grumpiness behind!

Some bilingual threads seems a bit obsessed with "mother tongue" and having the "correct" accent ... If we don't speak because we don't speak like a native speaker (and what is that in this day and age of international travel and migration and Bob-the-builder) then the world would be a quieter place. Come to think of it, maybe that's not such a bad idea ... (Sorry perhaps I should post this on bilingual thread instead ...)

sfxmum · 13/03/2008 09:47

slng I have a huge problem with my expat compatriots because at some point it becomes very ghetto like, us and them, whatever that means. and besides I don't have the right accent (the silly ponces) I can fake it but every time I come across officialdom it seems to grow thicker
