Books were truly fab, tonnes of totally amazing cakes. Can't wait to try out some of the new techniques. I've also ordered a load of cookie cutters (wedding dress, tuxedo jacket, champagne glass, handbag, stiletto shoe, baby bottle, bib, dummy, pram, bootees venetian mask, tea cup and tea pot, underwater creatures etc etc), and planning on making loads to pracise my icing techniques. I think they would go down well as wedding favours, baby showers etc.

SJ99 · 07/03/2008 17:49

Cov - all sounds very exciting, good luck with your business.

Just to say toodle pip for now. See you all in a week's time

ComeOVeneer · 07/03/2008 18:20

Thanks SJ. Have a good break.

fitfox · 07/03/2008 18:20

Steppy thanks for the beautiful present you bought DS2 0 he absolutely loves it!

Birthday slightly stressful for various reasons but OK and he approved of cake.

Well I had some good news today - I think I have persuaded my most valued member of staff to change her mind about leaving. It involves a massive pay hike which I am hoping she cannot refuse . Had some other exciting work news which I won't bore you all with but politically all very good stuff for my team

Now all I have to do is manipulate another pay rise for Moi

CoV well done on the Pippi costume.

I have to admit I fecking hate Book Week - the insistence by schools that we have to produce costumes for our child for one day of the year (costumes which they won't wear again once they get to age 6, as they are far too old to "dress up") is an absolute PITA. Its either very expensive or a big burden if you attempt to make something. Its very difficult when you work to try and find time to "create" elabortae" costumes!

Rant over.......

Steppy what did you do for your boys ? any costumes I can borrow? DS1 wants to go as Mario which the school won't allow

How are everyone's DC's today?

fitfox · 07/03/2008 18:42

Oh SJ have a great week by the sea!!!

ComeOVeneer · 08/03/2008 08:52

Morning all. Well done foxie persuading colleague to stay. Had a rather unpleasant altercation with a father of one of dd's class mates in the park after school yesterday. The man is seriously deranged, he called the PTA a facist organisation and he hates them (bear in mind I am chairperson of said pta), he doesn't believe we should be raisng funds to help the school, school is purely to get children away from the influences of their parents. Baking cakes for the school is a ridiculous venture as there is no element of risk (ftf?). Then proceeded to say my new business idea is dull but not as dull as being a dentist and I am a bored overindulged housewife. When I pulled him up on being offensive and personal he said he didn't care, he wanted to win the arguement, to which I responded "well in my experience you are more likely to win an arguement by putting forward well reasoned and valid points rather than hurling petty personal insults".

TBH it left me rather upset and a tad shaken.

Thankfully this weekend is the first in a long while with no birthday parties, family arrangements or plans of any sort, so we are just going to chill and spend time as a family . Enjoy your weekend everyone!

slng · 08/03/2008 09:51

COV - what an odd man! Perhaps his children does need to get away from his influence!

Not sure what we will do today. DS2 seemed to have recovered from his "non-specific viral" infection, so we might do the train thing tomorrow.

sfxmum · 08/03/2008 10:01

good morning all

COV who does he think he is? the cheek good calm answers I must say, you did really well, have a nice weekend

foxie well done on the job issue and initiating ds into the brotherhood of cake.

slng good to hear ds is better, take it you are still doing the tree tour? got the Kew magazine and there are loads of things I am interested in.

dd has a cough to add to her cold but doesn't look bad, dh is working today unfortunately but he might take monday off which is nice

hope everyone has a nice weekend

slng · 08/03/2008 10:13

sfx - I'm doing tree tour on 15 March. You have to pre-pay, if you can get through to them and they are not too busy to take your card details! DS2 over non-specific virus (that's so yesterday) but into non-specific rages now.

Kewcumber · 08/03/2008 10:26

have no internet connection so just popping in for 5 mins t my mums. Still expecting Sushi and Mellow any time form 3.30pm onwards give me call at home if any problmes.

sfxmum · 08/03/2008 10:36

slng - kewG 'customer services' are legendary for being quite disorganised
sorry to hear it is back sounds odd but expect you will not really have much clarification or further investigation from the GP

just had a letter from FIL detailing and complaining about the elaborate arrangements for BIL wedding it appears I might be required to wear a hat and there seem to be morning suits involved
well with the over 2yr prep I knew it would be a poncy affair with extra meals involved

stepfordwife · 08/03/2008 10:39

morning, all
how we all diddling?
foxie, glad ds2 liked his pressie and, more importantly, liked cake!

and well donefor persuading your colleague to stay.
god, i hate the dressing up book week thing, too. ds2 hates it too...god, was hoping to nick YOUR ideas!!?
no idea what to do, but have got a "wacky" hat, so will get one of them to be the cat in a hat, i suppose..

just feels like one more irritant, doesn't it? i've already had to ask if they can get their book week posters in a day late on monday...arrraaaaggghhhhh....

cov, what a bloody lunatic. sounds like you handled it really well.

sing, lol 'nonm-specific rages".

well, i've got a very specific headache. a "quick" glass of vino with my next door neighbour to celebrate submitting our planning applications yesterday turned into a bit of a sesh..
though may as well invire other next door neighbours too so we merrily drank vino while eight kids, aged 3-14, entertained themselves upstairs. actually the teenager was fab and organised games/looked after littlies. dd was the only girl and today is asking "where are all my boys gone?"

have a good weekend everyone. about to decamp to a cappuccino shop with ds1 to get a caffeine fix and the painful task of writing a poem for, yes, you've guessed it foxie, bloody book week....
toodlepip

stepfordwife · 08/03/2008 10:40

..and SJ have a fab break

ComeOVeneer · 08/03/2008 10:42

He is indeed a very odd man. To add to my woes ds managed to ride his tricycle to fast down the hill to the playground and smacked his head on the metal gate, then dd was clouted in the back of the head by a swing, so both have big bruised lumps to show for it.

SFX, nothing like a good old fashioned family wedding to stir up trouble.

Kewcumber · 08/03/2008 10:49

just a very quick piece of info for you - there are measles about in SW London. My friedns little girl (s.5yrs) in East Sheen has it - she has a nanny and doesn't go to nursery yet so presumably has picked it up from a playgroup somewhere. I'll find out later how she is.

mellow2 · 08/03/2008 11:20

Hi QC,
I'm afraid I won't be able to make it to yours this pm. MIL is coming tomorrow so I'm going to yoga today instead of tomorrow. I'm sure dd would prefer to come to yours than staying home today.

Sushi,
Everything you've ordered is in stock now.Can I drop off stuff tomorrow morning?

slng · 08/03/2008 13:12

The GP said DS2 looked like he had measles but he's had the measles jab. Dr said single jab not as effective etc. Anyway it turns out that it's not measles ... Kew - has your friend's dd had vaccination? (I guess you can still get it even if you had...)

sfxmum · 08/03/2008 14:29

slng sometime last year, dd had a rash which lasted a couple of days, barely noticeable, and a slight temp looking a bit under the weather. was talking to FIL a week or so later and he said it sounded like typical mild measles.

vaccine does not mean you will not get it but generally if you do it is likely to be quite mild

SushiMummy · 08/03/2008 17:25

Just a quick one...

QC - lovely to see you earlier. Yes, DH's devastated.

Mellow - Yes, that's fine. See you tomorrow.

SushiMummy · 09/03/2008 12:13

QC - DS has been sick all night followed by explosive poo. Hope your DS OK.

MrsRecycle · 09/03/2008 18:39

COV at your awful encounter - what a truly dreadful man.

foxie, glad ds2 enjoyed his birthday although it was bit stressful for you - hope weekend has been quieter. Well done on the colleague front - wish my boss would do something to make me stay but right now I've had enough.

I've had a lovely relaxing weekend with dh doing everything and letting me go shopping to La Senza warehouse in Hayes - everything was meant to be £3 but I got there and most of it was reduced to 50p. So loads of lovely underwear at a bargain price.

sfx - I have an expensive hat you can borrow if you want to go to the wedding but I'm guessing you don't. Shall we try and think of some excuses for you?

Sushi - oh no, poor ds - hope tonight is better for you. I think my ds is going to go the same way, his nappies are getting explosive and he isn't eating.

Oh talking of ds, he was scalped (as dh calls it!) on Friday and he looks like a proper little boy now and has lost the babyness.

steppie, congrats on planning, hope you've recovered, I love those on the spur of the moment nights that turn into a major session. Kids are remarkedly robust at looking after themselves when needed aren't they??

rosmerta · 09/03/2008 20:32

am just popping in briefly to say I'm off to Lollipop again tomorrow if anyone wants to meet up. Will be there for about 10.30 probably,

Sorry, I will catch up with everyone later! Hope you're all ok

filtered · 09/03/2008 21:17

help - need io on this lovely area - have started other threads cab you help? thnaks

bunyanvillas · 10/03/2008 06:53

Morning all, what a glorious day! Sushi, hope your ds has recovered. Foxie, belated Happy Birthday to your ds! Cov, what a strange man but I did think that your handling of the whole sorry affair was superb. Trying to decide what to do today, weather so awful! Meant to be visiting a friend in Wimbledon, depending on rain velocity/wind speed! Mind you, being from Northern Ireland I am used to this sort of weather on a regular basis so I guess I'll be hopping in the car and just going(can one "hop" into a car at 34 weeks pregnant?) Hello Filtered, what info was it you wanted?
