Hello everyone! What a wet day! Hope everyone is OK and all garden furniture remain in correct garden. It took us 10 minutes to get all our rain gear on, by which time the rain had stopped and the children (and me) looked utterly ridiculous ... Still, we got to step in all 1001 puddles from home to nursery, which was fun ...

rosmerta · 10/03/2008 09:15

Hi all, scrap Lollipop, I think it'll be really busy & that the crappy weather gives me an excuse for us to stay in with our pjs on . Also hope Sj isn't regretting going to a caravan now.

Cov, at that man, I feel sorry for his dcs growing up with that kind of attitude.

Sushi, hope ds is feeling better

Kewcumber · 10/03/2008 09:29

DS is fine Sushi - has a cold but nothing else (so far). I have no internet connection at home - very dull.

Filtered - what info do you want?

OP posts:
sfxmum · 10/03/2008 09:59

good morning all

here dd has been down with cold and cough, keeping me awake and being quite the mad toddler when feeling a bit better when the drugs kick in. dh home today so thankfully I got a lie in.
dd seems better today

sushi hope ds is feeling better
likewise all the other LO who have been poorly

Bunyan 34wks! finish line in sigh marvellous

Ros might do lollipop tomorrow or some other time this week but the weather forecast is bad so I guess it will be always busy

slng - jumping in puddles is a firm favourite here too

filtered hi from what I can see you want school info sorry can't help dd too small but anything else let us know

off to have breakfast while dh&dd do the laundry

filtered · 10/03/2008 10:21

Hi buny, we are relocating and I really don't know the area and have to find a house with good rail links to waterloo so i assume Richmond rail, a primary school place and all quickly so any help i can get i would be grateful.
Am seeing a house on castlegate rd but you know when the estate agent is tooo keen I being quite cynical am suspicious!

Any help would be good

Paddlechick666 · 10/03/2008 10:35

morning all, bit dusty here due to neighbours waking dd at midnight and her not settling till gone 2am

filtered, i don't know castlegate road so can't comment on that i'm afraid.

richmond is lovely but pretty expensive. schools (primary) tend to be good but over-subscribed.

there are a number of areas around richmond which you might want to consider.

Isleworth, 20mins bus to Richmond or the Hounslow line to W'loo which is the slow train.
Whitton - also Hounslow line to W'loo
Twickenham - fast train to W'loo (altho depends on your definition of fast )
Brentford, Hounslow, St Margarets etc etc

Are you buying or renting?

Sorry, have prob confused you more than helped now.

sfxmum · 10/03/2008 10:38

from what I know castlegate is a road very near very near the centre and there is a good choice of primary schools in Richmond generally. not so much for secondary.

mrsR meant to say thanks for offer. there is no way I can not go really but if I am made to wear a hat I will get one of those odd construction thingies. must find suitable pic

filtered · 10/03/2008 10:49

so would being very near the centre be bad? or good for a family?

sfxmum · 10/03/2008 11:02

no not bad at all this area is good for families lots of parks and other family friendly amenities.
like paddle said most of the surrounding areas are good too and less expensive.

hi paddle sorry about the neighbours

fitfox · 10/03/2008 11:52

Hi Filtered

I know Castlegate - and have walked past the house that's for sale (always fancied that road myself but nothing was available when we were moving) looks very nice and good location for N Sheen or Rishmond stations (to waterloo)/walking into Richmond and also close to several schools (incl. Darrell and Marshgate). The A316 is noisy though and you may be able to here ot from the garden. Also, all of west london is blighted by Heathrow flights but we all just get used to it really (you don't notice the planes after a while)

All primary schools here are excellent (Holy Trinity less so perhaps) . There is also Windham Nursery, which is a Centre of Exclellence and very close to Castlegate. There is a good GP in Pagoda Avenue (just round corner) and Kew Gardens is very close too.

Good luck

fitfox · 10/03/2008 11:57

Hi everyone else

QC thanks for the measles wearning (must get DD her booster). Sorry I didn't call back last night, I was too rat arsed busy running around getting all the school stuff ready for this morning.

Had a fabby book club last night. Did a Moroccan night with authentic food (well OK, it was from Tesco's "Ethnic" aisle) and music. The book I had chosen was 1,000 Spelendid Suns which was tres popular

Hi everyone else. DS2 is toddling around the house now

Hope the Vom bigs don't develop into anything - that is a real 'mare.
Cov - at the rude and aggressive man in the park but good for you keeping your cool and [hugs] for the crappy day you had

fitfox · 10/03/2008 11:59

Oooh forgot to mention - my staff member e-maield me saying she is deffo going to stay

We also got notification this morning of a Sun holiday we booked for £97.50 for all of us for 5 days in Normandy (ferry and accomodation) - sounds brill - hope the weather isn't too freezing (going beginning of April)

Kewcumber · 10/03/2008 12:34

Foxie - just rang you to say that I have some costumes if you're interested for DS1's book week. I'm not sure If they'll fit but youre welcome to borrow.

None very ethnically suitable!

  1. English medeival knights tabard in silver and white with st georges cross

  2. american indian headress (have waistcoat and traousers but they are size 3-4 I think)

  3. one Harry Potter velvet dress robe (ie cloak!)

Hi all. Welcome filtered. I'm afraid I am a bit further out (Thames Ditton, just the other side of Kingston) so no advice. However where we are has good links to Waterloo (fast train from Surbiton is 20mins). Good primary and fairly good (and improving) secondary, more for your money than Richmond, 10 mins from Hampton court if that helps at all.

SFX lucky you at having a lie in. DS is waking about 2-3am the last few nights and with the weather last night I have had less than 5 hours sleep (in 2 parts). Wish I was fortunate not to have to venture out, but have already done the school run, dropped dh at station, nursery run, Waitrose, nursery pick up. Then have to collect girls from school take them to ballet at 4 then pick them up and drop dd's friend home at 6pm. Am already feeling decidely wet and wind swept. Mind you we have no breakages/leakages/floods and still have electricity so shouldn't moan .

Off to find inspiration for mum's 60th b'day cake for the weekend after next.

rosmerta · 10/03/2008 13:27

Hi all, we managed to get out in the brief bit of sunshine we had! Just popped to the shops, thought we might try some baking again this afternoon.

Filtered, I'm in Brentford so not much help really. There are only a couple of good primary schools here which are both church schools & most of the properties available are flats rather than houses so probably not the best place to move to! Hope it all goes ok.

ComeOVeneer · 10/03/2008 13:35

OK guys, wish me luck, I think I shall be making something along the lines of this

filtered · 10/03/2008 13:46

ooh fitfox - is it okay? sounds great but am trying not o get ecited in cas it doesnt work out - you dont happen to know if it has been on sale for long?
Darrel and Marshgate both look like good schools from their website - am i right that they are state so free?
How long is the train to watrloo from richmond?
thanks it is so good to get replies.

Kewcumber · 10/03/2008 13:48

yes both free though Marshgate very oversubscribed as the only state run nursery locally.

OP posts:
filtered · 10/03/2008 13:50

is it a nursery or a school?, i thought it a school or both?

Paddlechick666 · 10/03/2008 13:57

wrt to train times, technically it should only take 10 - 15 mins on the fast train (1 stop at C'ham Jnctn) but it is never that quick in the mornings!

or the evenings for that matter.

Kewcumber · 10/03/2008 13:59

marshgate is a priamry windham is a nursery. Sorry I meant Windham is oversubscribed...

OP posts:
Kewcumber · 10/03/2008 14:00

Marshgate and Darrell both have good reputations and I think they may both ahve some kind of nursery provision attached - how old are your DC's?

OP posts:
Kewcumber · 10/03/2008 14:02

Richmond fast treain is 15 mins - slow one is about 25 mins. Sometimes it's quicker to live closer to one of the "slow" stations (Mortlake or North sheen) and have a 5 min walk to the station rather than have a longer walk to richmond and try to catch the quick train. Trains are quite frequent from Richmond though.

OP posts:
filtered · 10/03/2008 14:06

thanks for train info useful will look into frequency
dcs 5 and 2

Kewcumber · 10/03/2008 14:07

most trains locally have four trains and hour I think Richmond has more?
