thought I would start a new one

hello all, still can't talk

tilly re routines, I heard something on the radio this morning, which pretty much sums up my feeling, read the books, talk to people, meet your child, do it your way. but it is hard building confidence for the new parent seems there is a whole industry predicated on insecurity

hope all goes welll

vbus 13th seems ok to me we don't really have plans just take it as it goes I guess

copper read something sillyGrin Colour Purple too much like Beloved I shall mostly be reading fluff for the next few months I think, although I ordered Independent People by Halldor Laxness which I am guessing is not cheerful readingHmm

dh shirking from home quite useful, he can issue all commands that I have written down

OP posts:
vbus · 29/03/2011 13:42

I am quite stunned that the conman that I told you about had the audacity to come to our house today [shocked] He is still pretending to represent our neighbour which we both know not to be the case, I had to tell him to leave and thankfully he did without trouble otherwise I would've called police Angry

Sfx - hope your throat gets better soon

Tilly - good luck with the routines talk. Never read that book but I know a few mums who swear by it, each to their own

sfxmum · 29/03/2011 14:05

vbus what a cheek!

odetothewestwing · 29/03/2011 14:13

April 13th looks good to me Smile

Am quaking in my boots at the prospect of root canal treatment in 2 weeks' time - trying not to think about it too much or it will turn into a monster!

Tilly - agree totally with SFX's comments re: routines - 'that book' helped me to a point with dd, but I ended up just doing what worked best for dd rather than following a rigid routine - and with ds - well, he just had to fit into whatever was going on!

Have started running - finally! Went out on Sun and really enjoyed it - out again tonight, hoorah! Kitten arriving, too, in approx 4 weeks' time - can't wait!

UptoapointLordCopper · 29/03/2011 14:30

Hello!

"That book" was a life-saver for us. Grin Trick is to read and think. Much the same with any other books, really.

I would like to have someone to issue all commands I've written down too. Can I borrow your DH, sfx, now that he is trained in the art?

I have run out of fluff to read. Sad

Kewcumber · 29/03/2011 14:51

west wing - have had root canal work a couple of times and it has never been any worse than any other kind of dentisty thing.

stepfordwife · 29/03/2011 16:23

hello all

hope you feel better soon, sfx
what a cheek, vbus! well done for getting rid of him
i was dreading root canal work too, westwing, but it was ok.

sorry to duck in on the scrounge, but after case studies for a feature for a monthly magazine about women's first holidays abroad.
would particularly like one who had one of those giggly, girlie holidays in Greece or somewhere as a teenager. or, if your first holiday abroad was somewhere fab as a child or you've got another good story, please email or phone me if you're up for it.
Would just involve a phone chat with me and woud also need a recent head and shoulders shot. Crucially - you must have good, clear photos (and memories) of holiday.

if you do fancy it - or know someone who does - need to speak to you/her over next few days, so please get in touch with asap. but no worries if not.

stepfordwife · 29/03/2011 16:24

took brood to see megamind on sunday. loved it! the ac/dc and kiss soundtrack made a refreshing change Grin

UptoapointLordCopper · 29/03/2011 20:41

sfx - don't remember no holidays.

Am nearly half way into "The Color Purple" and actually finding it funny. Shock More grimness to come, no doubt.

UptoapointLordCopper · 29/03/2011 20:46

I mean steppie, not sfx.

sfxmum · 29/03/2011 20:53

OP posts:
vbus · 30/03/2011 13:47

Sfx - nice pics Grin I loved reading the Outsiders as a teen. How's your throat now?

Westwing - good luck with dentistry work, probabaly wise not to think about it too much

Steppie - ta for tip on cinema, and good luck with article!

DS2 gave me a scare in playground. I thought he was playing hide and seek in the trees but he managed to escape the playground (someone had left gate open) and get down to main st Shock several heart attacks later, thankfully some kind parent brought him back to playground, phew.

UptoapointLordCopper · 30/03/2011 17:54

Hello!

vbus - scary!!!

Woke up at 2am and couldn't go back to sleep for ages. As a consequence nearly finished the color purple ...

sfxmum · 30/03/2011 18:04

hello

vbus scary I am deeply paranoid about hide and seek games
throat getting better thanks

copper that is one way of doing itGrin

waiting for dh so we can have dinner, he is collecting his fancy new bike

westwing root canal is ok mostly boring, my dentist plays music of choice or you can watch telly, works for me
have dental hygienist appointment tomorrow, not been in ages should take a while, another boring thing

I forgot to report an anomaly
At the weekend at gig venue, I went to the toilet, as you do and....

..................

the men's queue as at least 3x longer than the women's queueShock
this anomaly was commented at length by all females present

Shock

UptoapointLordCopper · 30/03/2011 19:09

Also went for blood test this morning - so no food from last night through school run Shock. Had scambled eggs at cafe after - but why oh why do they not season the eggs? It's health-consciousness gone too far. A bit of salt goes a long way when it comes to scrambled eggs, and adding afterwards just doesn't seem to be the same. End of report on minor annoyance. Grin

Hide and seek at public park = invention of the devil.

sfx - what fancy bike has DH bought? DH's has a fancy dutch bike and a bastardised customised bog-standard bike.

Finished my book. Quite impressed, really. Enjoyed it very much.

Starting on a Michael Murpugo book now.

sfxmum · 31/03/2011 12:54

hello

I have decided I actually quite like dentist visits, wonder why I neglect it soHmm

copper he got a Pashley very pretty indeed if I could actually ride I would be envious

OP posts:
vbus · 31/03/2011 13:40

'Like going to the dentist' Shock Confused

Had 8 toddler and parents round this morning for singing, house survived mess and noise levels Grin

DH got the day off tomorrow so was planning to visit Ham House, has anyone been?

UptoapointLordCopper · 31/03/2011 14:58

Pashley - very nice. Did look at it when buying mine but decided I was not worthy of it. Grin

8 toddlers and parents - OK. 8 toddlers and parents singing - Hmm Not sure that is legal. Grin

DS1 on school trip to Osterley house. Wonder what there is to do there. But there is a farm shop. Or at least used to be a couple of years ago.

sfxmum · 31/03/2011 20:48

vbus I salute your braveryGrin
never been to Ham house or not yet I should say

anyone waiting for primary school places results? it is that time of the year is it not?

apparently dh&dd have plans for mother's day which do not include me, well as long as I get breakfast and dinner sorted for me then they can do as they pleaseGrin

OP posts:
UptoapointLordCopper · 31/03/2011 20:52

Just finished reading Michael Morpugo's "Kensuke's Kingdom". Cried my eyes out. Blush

Beast Quest next. Guaranteed to cure any sentimentalism.

tillyfernackerpants · 31/03/2011 21:36

Copper, I've got his War Horse to read, am expecting to sob a little at that Blush

vbus, Shock at ds2, how awful! Glad he's ok though. Ds2 got away from my mum at Kew Gardens the other week, and she really panicked then. Fortunately he'd just gone from Climbers & Creepers to the playground outside!!

sfxmum · 01/04/2011 12:12

Rubbish weather again. On family duties. War horse is supposed to be good. Tilly dd read abridged version of Secret Garden then asked for full one, we started last night tis bleak and brutal

OP posts:
Kora · 01/04/2011 13:33

Hi everyone. Hope all is well. Sfx, Secret Garden was one of my favourite books, I remember being a bit shocked at the coldness and cruelty at the outset when I was kid but it's so glorious later on, the children end up helping each other when the adults prove rather lacking... There's quite a good movie (I think 80s or 90s) if she wants to see it on screen. Hope she likes it. Smile

Vbus - sorry to hear you had such a scare at playground, horrid when stuff like that happens. Constantly feel I need eyes at the back of my head, and not sure what I'll do when my DD2 is mobile too!

Copper, Tilly, Sfx - impressive reading. I must pick up a proper book again soon! I keep reading Pratchett, which I read loads of while breastfeeding during maternity leave. Easy diversion. DH has finished Freedom, by Franzen, but need to brace myself for rather depressing read apparently.

I'm finding out school news this monday... Confused I'm trying to be philosophical about it whatever happens. Hmmm...

Kewcumber · 02/04/2011 09:19

good luck for Monday, Kora - if you get into ours I know a sibling who lives around the corner who will be starting so could arragne for a play with your DD before starting...

Off to try Ravenscourt park playground for a change this morning.
