happy mother's day all you utterly fab mums! Smile
Brew now
Wine later

UptoapointLordCopper · 04/04/2011 09:40

Good morning!

I don't like Mother's Day. I hate anything that tells you you have to enjoy yourself now. I reserve the right to be miserable any time I want to be. Harrumph.

Grin

On another note, the sun is shining!

Kewcumber · 04/04/2011 09:49

vbus - my neighbour made the dressing up costumes for Ham House - DS was teh model for the smaller ones! Did you see them?

I quite like Motehrs day just because its a nice excuse for the family to all get together and eat. I made teh mumsnet one pot chicken which was so simple that it doesn;t really qualify as a recipe but a nice way to roast a chicken easily. (though I did joint it which took a bit more time).

Whats news Kora...

sfxmum · 04/04/2011 10:19

hello

I for one enjoyed mother's day, we went for for dinner on Saturday
on Sunday dd came up with yummy breakfast then they left me alone until almost dinner time which they cooked - lovelyGrin

mad dash this morning things not according to plan mostly because I forgot she needed to take a soft toy to school, sitting down for breakfast at last, must find time to run

OP posts:
Kewcumber · 04/04/2011 10:27

I was up (as usual) at 7.30am for mothers day and madly got up to go cheer my sister who was rowing in her first race on the Thames. I don;t know who was madder, her for rowing on motehrs day or me for dragging Ds off to see it!

sfxmum · 04/04/2011 10:53

so how many came up behind?
guess it was a wholesome start

I really need to learn to ride a bike, dh says it is just lack of practice Hmm not convinced

OP posts:
Kewcumber · 04/04/2011 17:43

I'm checking the richmond website for learn to ride courses - they said check afetr Easter.

sfxmum · 04/04/2011 17:59

KewC there are pictures of people failing off the bike at the site pageShock not very inspiring

Oh goodness, vbus, what a scare for you with ds2. And very brave of you to have 8 toddlers round, never mind the parents! Had a great mothers day and made it to Kew Gdns, saw some friends AND had tea with dh's family. What time are you meeting at on the 13th? I would like to make it. We drove over via Esher etc yesterday and it only took 45 mins to get to Hampton Court!

Am currently reading The Slap by Christos Tsiolkas - anyone read it? Characters v unlikeable so far.

SFX, the running was good last week - I think I did well going 3 times and my fitness was better than I had bargained for. This week is more tricky as can't slot anything in until Thursday so guess I will fee it.

dd is in the midst of a skipping craze, it seems to be 'the thing' at the moment and reminds me of my own school days! ds2 was three on Saturday and is finally potty trained - phew!

UptoapointLordCopper · 04/04/2011 20:19

Am reading Chinua Achebe atm. Shock

Have not heard good things about The Slap.

Kew Gardens outing on 13th: we are going to try early, straight to that playground that is not C&C, and leave after lunch. Things to do in the afternoon ... Anyone else for early outing?

Kewcumber · 04/04/2011 20:38

which one is the playground that is not C&C?

Kewcumber · 04/04/2011 20:39

Ah just realised 13th is Weds and Ma has DS on weds.

UptoapointLordCopper · 04/04/2011 21:26

I don't know - Badger Sett or something.

sfxmum · 04/04/2011 21:38

playgrounds at Kew there is the one by Queen C's cottage quite good I find

westwing that is a good effort and quite addictive too, longer days means more hrs to run
I am a bit disheartened with the running I am making my way back to fitness and hopefully will gain some speed, but it all so counter-intuitive , go slow to go faster, go shorter to go longer, all very annoying but following a plan helps

sfxmum · 05/04/2011 10:03

hello

just how how do you draw the line protecting your children and letting them be free enough to try new experiences and take risks?

dd decided she will go to talent show auditions (area)Factor Shock
out of the blue she wants to sing in it
well she is not the greatest singer and she does not know the format of such shows because, unlike most of her classmates we don't watch it
I am probably being horribly unreasonable but am worried she will get upsetBlush
this is overprotective isn't it? I just told her to enjoy herself

btw can I do a quick poll and ask how many of you think global warming is real?

OP posts:
UptoapointLordCopper · 05/04/2011 10:12

Hello!

sfx - we don't watch it either. I would say no. > Or let her watch a show first to be prepared.

Global warming - probably real.

UptoapointLordCopper · 05/04/2011 10:17

Just went on youtube and watched "the best first audition ever" for X Factor or some such and it's pretty awful... To think one needs validation from such as Cowell. I am so out of touch with modern culture. I think I'll go back to work now. Good luck SFX!

vbus · 05/04/2011 13:05

Hello all

Quick post

Tilly - lovely to see you both earlier Smile sorry again for such late return of items!

Sfx - I don't watch it either but my gut feel is if you think she'll get upset then say no. If she's desperate then maybe you just have to prepare her fully so she can handle any negativity. Go with your instincts, good luck

Queen C playground about 10ish for next Weds ok?

just found out author is coming to book club tomorrow, should make for good discussion about book!

Off to hairdressers now while DS2 snoozes

vbus · 05/04/2011 13:09

Tilly - I'm all set for Thurs!

sfxmum · 05/04/2011 13:28

hi there thanks for impute I'm afraid this was sprang on me last night and auditions are this afternoon, well I saw her putting her name down this morning, oh well

do any of yours like to keep activities outside school sort of 'private'? the teachers ask us to send in info in to be added to their 'news and achievements' but dd flatly refuses this, she says it is private
interesting boundaries

ok for next week, am planning a visit to British Museum too at some point the weather forecast is not encouraging would love to spend as much time outdoors as possible

OP posts:
sfxmum · 05/04/2011 13:30

vbus to your book club? who? I noticed far too late last year that one of my favourite scifi writers China was doing a talk at Sheen Library
Gutted as they say Grin

OP posts:
tillyfernackerpants · 05/04/2011 14:08

Great, thanks vbus. Is 7.30-7.45 ok?
