UptoapointLordCopper · 25/06/2011 16:30

Sun is out. Out tonight, but where to go?

vbus · 27/06/2011 13:19

hello all

hope everyone enjoyed the sunny weekend Smile

Kew - hope you enjoyed the camping, picked a good wkend for it

Copper - hope you had good night out, where did you end up?

Sfx - hope fair went well. Last week was quite manic and stressful at times but hope to have a bit more time and check out festival thread

Steppie - Happy belated birthday to DS2, double figures eh? You were right zumba was really good fun, I'll be going again!

Wkend was lovely went to friend's for bbq on Saturday and then we had friends over yesterday, boys loved being in paddling pool. Crops are coming on nicely, we've been having rocket and radish (or rubbish as DS2 keeps calling itGrin)and going to harvest the courgettes today, yum

sfxmum · 27/06/2011 14:59

hello

vbus how lovely to have a crop even if it is of rubbishGrinWink
hope things are less stressful until the end of term

productive day so far considering but am not hoovering now as the piggies seemed quite traumatised already just from the heat

OP posts:
sfxmum · 27/06/2011 15:00

steppie blocking out the being 10 business it all seems too near now

OP posts:
UptoapointLordCopper · 27/06/2011 17:52

Hello!

vbus - we went to Sen Nin.

We don't have much of a crop of anything, not even rubbish Grin. We had about 10 blueberries, 2 raspberries. But lots of purple chillies coming up. Yeah! And hopefully some chocolate-coloured cherry tomatoes.

vbus · 27/06/2011 19:13

Copper - your chillies and tomatoes sound very exotic Envy the birds keep eating our strawberries, have salvaged only a few. No sign of tomatoes or beans yet but potatoes are thriving

Sfx - you could put hoover on reverse and give the piggies some AC Wink

DS1 asked to watch Steps Tragedy on youtube as they'd been watching at school and learning the moves Shock He also said Andy Murray coming in for a visit next week Shock Not sure if this is true Confused But last time I didn't believe him a real rock band that he mentioned actually did visit their school Grin

UptoapointLordCopper · 28/06/2011 13:24

It's raining! With accompanying thunder. That will make the tomatoes and sunflowers happy again.

Our crops don't seem very good this year. The raised bed is nearly empty. I'm thinking of planting perennials (garlic chives and raspberry) on the raised bed. No reason not to, is there? Perhaps I'll ask in the gardening thread.

We have an annual dance afternoon which is a BIG DEAL. Every class put up a dance routine. Some of the kids are really quite good. DS1's class doing Surfing USA and DS2's class doing Michael Jackson's ABC. ShockGrin

sfxmum · 28/06/2011 13:46

pardon the pedantry but ABC is Jackson 5

I hope the rain is done by pick up time, there was a clap of thunder so close it made the piggies jump squeal and hide, the poor dears are only about a month old

copper I love herbs in the garden they smell wonderful at the end of a warm day, rosemary, oregano, lavender, along with sweet peas
I have no idea of planting times here climate is definitely different, daffodils come up just before Christmas there so not good for advice.

OP posts:
sfxmum · 28/06/2011 13:50

vbus what bad turned up?
apparently Andy Murray is quite nice talking 1:1 and quite easy with children, do you know he was at the Dumblane school when that murdering nutter did those awful things?
MIL grew up there and her mum's house is still in that village

anyway cheerful stuff 1month to CampBGrin

OP posts:
sfxmum · 28/06/2011 13:50

band not bad

OP posts:
vbus · 28/06/2011 13:52

Is summer over then?
Grin

Copper - no idea about raspberries but the other two should be fine. Our herbs are mostly potted, tried coriander this year which has just started coming through. Our crops much better than last year for some reason, I guess fewer pests in this garden

vbus · 28/06/2011 13:52

Sfx - it was the Hoosiers Envy

sfxmum · 28/06/2011 13:55

how oddGrin is one of them dating a teacher or something?

OP posts:
sfxmum · 28/06/2011 13:57

Summer better not be over, we have Kew the Music next week and a festival to attend at the end of July, I need a sunny festival

btw meant to add I am really into Wallander the Swedish version, amazing, they all look like real people

OP posts:
sfxmum · 28/06/2011 14:00

also I am slightly alarmed that the education minister thinks that universities should be measured by how much students earn once they leaveShock

what does it all mean?

OP posts:
UptoapointLordCopper · 28/06/2011 14:06

Yes yes yes the Jackson 5. Whatever. Grin

Agree swedish wallander much better than kenneth branagh one. And they don't feel compelled to drive Volvos. Which one though - there's one with a fat Wallander and one with a older haggard one. I like the haggard one. (Sorry don't know names Blush.)

We always manage to get 2 or 3 harvesting of coriander and then it keels over. Make sure not too hot and plenty of water. One year we had enough to make Thai green curry paste. Yum yum yum. Nothing in the shops come anywhere close to home made paste.

vbus - it's garlic chives, not garlic and chives. Grin Never tried to grow garlic. In fact never had fresh garlic. Is it nice? I have recipes to devour heads and heads of garlic in one go. No fear of vampires in this house.

UptoapointLordCopper · 28/06/2011 14:06

Which idiot is it this time? Gove? I despair.

sfxmum · 28/06/2011 14:12

we like roasting garlic and shallots yum, fresh garlic fine depends how you use it I think, we always had loads of garlic at home hanging somewhere along with assorted herbs drying and huge bunches of camomile for tea

Gove uni plans, as sound as the ones for hospitals, things have to change but perhaps not quite like that.

Wallander only ever saw the haggard bloke showing on BBC 4 Saturday night

OP posts:
vbus · 28/06/2011 14:14

Copper - oops, speed read that one Grin My mum has grown garlic in the past, nice, maybe one to try at end of summer

Never got into Wallander although it's massively popular over there

Sfx - I'm all for transparency of info but does seem extreme to rate uni's against this Hmm One of parents has a connection with band and thought it would be a good idea if they came in and practised before festivals kick off Grin

sfxmum · 29/06/2011 09:57

hello

lovely morning shame someone stole our bikesSadAngry
police have been around, apparently the cctv not working, what a surprise

sports day mark 2 this afternoon

vbus yes transparency very useful and full explanations too

got dd's school report, very proud that she is doing well but what gets me is that it is mostly about how she measures up to the national standards, i would rather have an indication of what she does which is more personal, that gives me a sense of her learning and that they know her. to be fair there were some comments like that but all the graphs loose me

OP posts:
UptoapointLordCopper · 29/06/2011 11:05

Hello!

sfx - Angry at bike thieves. Hopefully bikes can be retrieved.

All those numbers are about national standards. Sometimes one is happy if they got the right child. No faith in institutions. Low expectations means less disappointment.

Would like transparency on how stupid ministers come to stupid conclusions and push stupid policies. When can we vote this lot off?

SushiMummy · 29/06/2011 11:21

Hi all! Remember me?Grin

Just a quick post to say hi. Life has been as busy as ever but at least the weather is looking gorgeous so shouldn't really be complaining...

sfx - Angry about stolen bikes! Must be so annoying for you all.

School shut tomorrow so DH is looking after DS. Our work holiday gets consumed by these school insets/strikes/tea partiesGrin etc.Biscuit

We need to sort out the summer holiday childcare asap.(Deep sigh)

Have a nice day, all.Smile

vbus · 29/06/2011 14:51

Hello Sushi - nice to hear from you Smile hope you manage to sort out childcare without too much stress

Sfx - that is awful about the stolen bikes, where do these people get off?Angry enjoy sports day

Will be receiving our 1st report soon, I'm intrigued what they'll say.
BTW teacher confirmed AM visit was definitely not true, DS1 was devastated to hear that, he really thought he was coming and was very much wanted to meet him SadGrin

vbus · 29/06/2011 14:52

PS - are we going to have night out soon????
