tillyfernackerpants · 29/06/2011 20:16

Hi all, hi sushi nice to see you

sfx, how annoying re bikes, we've been lucky so far!

Yes to night out, shall we do it for HP?

vbus · 29/06/2011 20:28

Sfx - apparently teacher had been talking to kids about AM and Wimbledon, I assume it's from that DS1 imaginiation took over Grin

Tilly -hope you had a good holiday. Did you see Nadal played Mr Fish today? Grin

Yes please to HP outing!!!

tillyfernackerpants · 29/06/2011 21:19

vbus, I did see that yes Grin. Holiday was nice, apart from the hard plastic mattresses!! We put another duvet on the bed so it made it a bit comfier. We went to Cardiff Bay & saw the bit where Captain Jack comes out of Torchwood! And also a really nice day up to some caves near the Brecon Beacons, as well as the beach of course!

Kewcumber · 29/06/2011 23:10

ph you went to Dan yr Ogof caves! Gosh many a happy hour of my childhhod spent wandering around those caves - I suspect they are a tad more organised now though.

OP posts:
Kewcumber · 29/06/2011 23:32

Oh one alsolute stonker with grzed palms to boot (ouchy ouch ouch) but not bike related - I got off bike to get some water (hot thistry work being a cyclist) and didn;t notice sticky out bit of a trailer and fell over it onto the gravel car park Blush

Instructors told me I was too good to sign up for the next beginners course Blush[burst with pride emoticon]

sfxmum · 29/06/2011 23:41

I am genuinely impressed
I had promised dd&dh that I would practice everyday this week and if I made no progress I would sign up for a class

OP posts:
Kewcumber · 29/06/2011 23:57

only one class before school hols - starts next thursday...

UptoapointLordCopper · 30/06/2011 09:36

Hello!

Hello Sushi! Hope holiday arrangements work out. We are having a combination of childminder, DH, me, and maybe MIL, to cover the period. But I wish I can take more time off...

Well done Kew! Today the bicycle, tomorrow the world! Or something.

Kids off to Legoland on school trip. Does that count as strike-breaking or something? Hmm

vbus · 30/06/2011 11:35

Hello all

Kewc- well done, keep going, it does get easier!

Tilly - I got married in Cardiff, where they filmed the Xmas Dr Who few yers back

Strike day, been at playground all morning, all kids had a great time. Lunch now, think swimming is still on later. Meanwhile have to make cakes and some sort of costume for tomorrow Hmm

tillyfernackerpants · 30/06/2011 14:39

Kew, well done on bike! Yes it was those caves, obviously don't know how much its changed but it did seem quite organised

UptoapointLordCopper · 30/06/2011 16:25

Kids not back yet from Legoland. Traffic problems, apparently.

sfxmum · 30/06/2011 17:10

maybe it is my old age, but it has been knackering 6 weeks of this coming upGrin might agree to her wish of 1 week holiday club

hope everyone is well

UptoapointLordCopper · 30/06/2011 20:11

Kids finally back from outing - 6.30 rather than the planned 4.30. Everyone suitably exhausted.

DS2 might have nits. Harrumph. Can you go to school if you have nits? Or only after you started treatment? Might be good excuse to bunk off school have to go get some of that toxic stuff. Our toxic stuff has used-by date April 2010... Anyway want to get CD player/radio for kids - one that lets you preset radio stations. Not that easy to find but I can feel a trip to John Lewis coming up.

UptoapointLordCopper · 30/06/2011 22:05

Just listened to Melvyn Bragg talking with guests about Tennyson's In Memoriam which reminded me of the second half of AS Byatt's Angels and Insects. Has anyone read that? It's a very odd book ... Will read it again after I finish all the light reading I got from the library. Smile

sfxmum · 30/06/2011 22:11

heard part of that programme this morning not read Angels and Insects, weird how?

currently occupied in very brainy pursuit of playing angry birds
dh uber stressed, work related

meeting dd's new teacher tomorrow morning

the book I am reading and was reading before the book I red is boring me, should I give up or persist?

OP posts:
UptoapointLordCopper · 01/07/2011 12:34

DS2 now happily listening to XFM. Should I be worried? I like shopping with DS2. Especially in John Lewis. Hours past just explaining the rules of cricket being on on about 100 wide screen tv.

We all woke up late this morning. Big rush. Have still have time to make sushi for packed lunch. Hmm How is that possible?

sfx - If the book you are reading and was reading before the book you read is boring you the thing to do is to read another book while reading the book you are reading which is boring you. That's how I got through many worthy books. Angels and insects not like anything I've ever read before. First time I read it completely over my head but read it through again immediately after. Not a book easily forgotten. Difficult to describe. But that's AS Byatt for you, I think. Extraordinary writer. Not always what you fancy but once read never forgotten. For me at least. Smile

sfxmum · 01/07/2011 12:48

copper thank you for adviceGrin XFM generally plays proper music so no fear. get him to listen to 6music for an extended education, and fewer idiotic DJs

might read the first Christomancy novel here and also just got delusions of gender

OP posts:
sfxmum · 01/07/2011 12:49

but also have Atwood to read al well as a couple of social philosophy/policy to read, they present 2 sides of an argument for the reductions of the size of government, both apparently well argues according to DH

OP posts:
sfxmum · 01/07/2011 12:50

well argued I meant

OP posts:
UptoapointLordCopper · 01/07/2011 13:15

Have got 6music on preset too. Any reggae type stations? Also set a jazz station but suspect it will not be too popular. And classic and Radio 3, optimistically. And refuse to set Magic or Heart. They get enough of that nonsense in school already. Hmm

Christomancy novels look interesting. Will get them from library next time. I want to find "Crazy Camelot Capers" for kids but can't seem to find them. Perhaps reserve them again from library. Atwood I always find disappointing, apart from Handmaid's tale. The others I've read just don't engage me. Ending up not caring about characters or wanting to strangle them. Handmaid's tale definitely one of the best novel though. Let's hope it stays a novel. Some events in US seem scarily foreshadowing sinister things. Not sure I'll read delusion of gender. I already don't have any delusion. Grin

sfxmum · 01/07/2011 13:18

but I do love Atwood, dh says the same as you but no I love her
Iris Murdoch I find difficult sometimes

Heart Magic etc not my thing Radio2 amused me sometimes, 6music play all types look for particular shows some are heavy on SKA always worth a listen

met dd's new teacher, have high hopes

OP posts:
sfxmum · 01/07/2011 13:20

oh and her class will be elephant next year (animal themed years) and she adopted an elephant for the class
so dd will come home saying she has a real elephant and I will promptly believe given the warning

OP posts:
UptoapointLordCopper · 01/07/2011 13:22

Never read Iris Murdoch. Should I? Meant to read Martin Amis next. Which one though? I get goaded into reading things. Read Salman Rushdie because someone was disparaging about Wild Swans, saying she's not Salman Rushdie, is she. Well, I'm not tempted to read Midnight's Children again, but I'll definitely read Wild Swans again and again.

Now must wash up. DS2 volunteering. Grin
