One pair of school shoes, one pair of plimsolls, one birthday present (100-piece megabloks Grin), one scooter. And one ice cream and one bread and butter pudding at Carluccio's.

Exhausted.

stepfordwife · 06/05/2011 20:06

hello all!
hope all diddling well
vbus - fantastic you're having a night away with dh WITHOUT KIDS. enjoy, enjoy, enjoy! you deserve it after five years and will need it before dh goes off for a month.
dh and i always get on brilliantly as soon as we're away from kids and domestic shite responsibilities ( er we get on alright usually, but ykwim!)

sfx, ikwym about not having a "proper" anniversary for grieving. my mum died over the easter weekend but not sure exactly when (when i asked the coroner for a time of death he gave a hefty sight and said:"That's only on TV, dear Grin). so do you treat feb 28 as your mum's anniversary or her funeral date?

we're off to a (third) cousin's christening tomorrow. cue discourse from ds1 to anyone who listens about evolution and ds2 and dd demanding why they've never had the water thing splashed over their heads......and have been invited to a GROWN-UPS party in evening Shock

have a lovely weekend, all
toodlepip

Kora · 07/05/2011 20:00

Hi everyone, been away too long. Lovely bank holidays ended with a bump this week - felt a bit disorientated to be back at work, but at least sun shone. And managed to ignore wedding mostly. Of course, watched a bit for the red carpet, guilty pleasure..., roll on Eurovision next week. Tried to cleanse (revive?) brain by voting and following election news. Thoroughly depressing, but Lib Dems might now realise the problem about the company they're keeping! Don't get me started on Andrew Lansley.

Steppie - so sorry to hear your sad news. Hope christening and party were good today.

Vbus - totally Envy about your night out! Seriously though, have a fab time. Gives me hope it might happen here one day! DH and I were revelling in sitting in our living room during daytime by ourselves today, when DD1 was at a playdate and DD2 napping. Felt kind of indulgent... Our last night out without kids was when I was giving birth to the second one!

Kew - cool phone. Know what you and Copper mean about the levels of complexity of these new gizmos though. I keep missing calls by failing to "swipe" my screen effectively...

Tilly - cake looks fab. Did recipe work? Of course, not a guarantee that I can make it work, but it's a good start if it's been tested by someone Grin

Just got BSG boxsets from a friend. Hooked. Good thing we're not going anywhere in the evenings....

That said, still up for HP night out whenever that is out!

Kora · 07/05/2011 20:04

That should be, the last "overnight" trip without kids - we have escaped on occasion for an evening out - but it's a rare occurrence! Grin Ah well, all worth it etc, etc. DH firing up BSG as I type...

UptoapointLordCopper · 07/05/2011 21:28

Hello!

Who has Nintendo DS? Which one should we buy? What games?

sfxmum · 07/05/2011 22:12

hi Kora membership card of geeks of kew being printed Grin BSG rules
I think the children are disorientated too with the holidays followed by a few days back a more days off

I don't understand how anyone things that a person getting 39% of the vote is the winner, anyhow

copper dd has a DS lite I think she has some games but those tend to be personal preference , she has petz assorted, Dora, HSM, some fairy thing and I can't recall what else, those things have cameras which she likes playing with and can go online so make sure you sort out the settings

steppie it's been so long, 27 yrs, sometimes I nearly forget the date, apart from when it is happens to be a 29th, and we don't really mark it any more, although my aunt usually pays for a mass, but of course it is ever present in the background, funny I seem to recall her birthday more readily on the 24th of April, she would have been 78.

trying to send dh to be but he is worst that the child, I reckon he is just too nervous about tomorrow, dd told me not to wake her up and that she does not want to cheer daddy but I think it is because she is annoyed with him, anyway 6am wake up call

sfxmum · 07/05/2011 22:15

yes and I drank some wine so there, dh can't on eve of race poor lambGrin
(my excuse for nonsensical stuff and stupid spelling)

just caught up with DrWho last weeks episode was very good

Kewcumber · 08/05/2011 11:45

good luck to Mr SFx

I think with my obsession with my "Droid" phone I may need a Geek card too.

tillyfernackerpants · 08/05/2011 13:21

Cake was delicious, the reviews said that most people left it in for 1hr 20 (recipe says 1hr), I tested it after an hour & it did need extra, just so you know. The roasted rhubarb with ice cream would be nice too Grin

Kora, welcome to the geeks club, BSG is the best Grin

Copper, I have a ds lite, suggest you get an R4 card then you can illegally download games for free Wink, though some of the newer ones won't work but for dc's there's plenty out there any way. If you don't fancy that, then I suggest looking on ebay & at the 2nd hand games in shops as they can be a bit pricy.

I know my dn got a ds 3d for his birthday, but I'm not sure about them, can't be good for the eyesight, especially in children Hmm

tillyfernackerpants · 08/05/2011 13:21

Oohh, lots of emoticons in that post!

Kora · 08/05/2011 14:54

Thanks Tilly for cake tips - I shall try out!

Yes, very aware of my geekiness, and happy too! Glad to be a member of that club... Grin

Hope Mr sfx is doing/has done well. Good weather for it, not too sunny and not raining! Much respect for effort.

sfxmum · 08/05/2011 15:07

hello

mrSFX did well, thanks, we got there just before he arrived at the finish line, just on the 2hr mark, not bad considering he did not do much training and hurt his ankle last Sunday, no official time yet.

dd was terribly grumpy the entire time and whined endlessly, but when she caught sight of dh and became cheerleader perkyShock

tilly I find the observation and comments of other cooks very useful, I love that site for the quality of comments, very helpful

OP posts:
sfxmum · 08/05/2011 15:10

KewC to qualify for geekdom I believe you must read at least one sci fi novel and enjoy it, preferable also like some sort of graphic novel type thingGrin

OP posts:
tillyfernackerpants · 08/05/2011 16:04

sfx, it is helpful, usually someone will suggest something to make the recipe better, I aspire to be one of those people Grin, well done to mrsfx

Went to see Thor last night, entertaining in a its-a-marvel-superhero-film-adaptation-with-not-much-originality kind of way!

Right, best go, we're off to tea at The Botanist this afternoon

UptoapointLordCopper · 08/05/2011 18:47

Well done MrSFX.

DH has gone and got a DSi. Kids don't know about it yet. We've had a sneaky go at a Mario game. How long do your DC spend on it? (This is called copycat parenting, in case you haven't noticed. Wink)

tilly - I'm reading a Daisy Dalrymple one now, with her married and have twins. Quite enjoying the "modern parenting" comments eg nurse being outraged that "modern parents" allowed access to their children at all times. Grin

Finally made successful crackers, crispy and nice. All my previous cracker attempts ended in the bin. You might want to ask why anyone would make crackers. I don't have an answer ... I'm obsessed ...

Seen trailers for Thor. Looks pretty exciting. Quite fancy "The Extraordinary Adventures of Adele Blanc-Sec", but will wait for DVD.

sfxmum · 08/05/2011 19:28

copper we have a DSi too, finally checked it, bought it at Christmas

dd spent more time to start with exploring and she will play more when she has a new game but mostly it is for boring moments on trains, buses cars etc and occasionally at home but no excessive amounts, she also swipes my phone to play angry birdsHmm

haven't read Daisy

tilly love the reviewGrin sometimes it is what you need
am sort of looking forward to the new X men with 2 of my favourite actors
if they added Jason Isaacs I would probably completely ignore the plot and watch it twice, at least, on the big screen

but am now obsessed with improving fitness, am about to start week 8 of 'get off your arse and run 10k' programme and have downloaded a much praised running app for proper training and tracking with assorted types of sessions

OP posts:
tillyfernackerpants · 08/05/2011 19:29

Haven't read that one yet, but will look forward to it. Ds1 is allowed to play on my ds for up to 1hr, only on weekends & that's usually only if we're going to ILs or will be in the car for a while

sfxmum · 08/05/2011 19:30

well done on the crackers is it an oven thing? steam and all that?

OP posts:
tillyfernackerpants · 08/05/2011 19:30

sfx, quite Grin, and yes, angry birds or any ninja game is a hit on our phones as well Hmm

sfxmum · 08/05/2011 19:36

am also quite excited to go see Sufjan Stevens next Friday yeah
must book more stuff, now we only have one of the Kew the music and CampB

OP posts:
UptoapointLordCopper · 08/05/2011 19:41

sfx - polenta olive oil cracker. Easy but rather posh and nice. Smile

UptoapointLordCopper · 08/05/2011 19:42

Nieces playing angry birds on FB and driving me nuts with endless comments on it.

sfxmum · 08/05/2011 19:44

I saw that and thought it was quite nice, Dan seems to care about the recipes and always answers questions bless him

OP posts:
vbus · 08/05/2011 21:07

Hello all, hope everyone well

Copper - I have a DS and it's just for me, when I'm on a bus/train, in bed etc, no kids allowed Grin I will try and wait as long as feasible before letting kids have one. I asked for some games from relatives as b'day pressies when I got it. Well done on crackers

Sfx - Well done Mr Sfx, excellent effort. Also really looking fwd to new X-men film too, shall we go when it's out?

Tilly - Hope you enjoyed afternoon out and glad you enjoyed film

Steppie - hope Christening went well and that you're not too hungover from grown up party Wink

Kora - Hope you're enjoying boxset. I would like to watch from beginning as I only got into it towards the end. Must finish current boxset first though

24hr getaway was fab, something I defintely want to do again next year! I feel incredibly relaxed and indulged in spa yesterday and body pump today (just for pure torture Grin), nice to spend time with just DH. Right, better finish unpacking and sort out laundry

UptoapointLordCopper · 09/05/2011 20:01

Hello!

Nice sunny day. But bloody cold in the wind standing around in the park while DSs monkeyed about.

vbus - I don't really want to push the kids to these computer games, but neither do I want to be nagged into it. It's been mentioned a few times and I promised we'll get them one when the time is right. Which is about now for DS1, I think.
