thought I would start a new one

sfx - didn't even go in Lakeland! Just imagine what I could have bought!! Did put butter in a microwaveable, freezer-safe, dishwasher-safe butter dish though, inspired by one MN thread many moons ago. Grin

Just finished rereading Handmaid's Tale. What a scary book. Now reading "Positive Discipline". 7yo very trying. Am considering letting him go to Woodcraft Folk. Anyone know anything about them? I'm prepared to try anything as long as there is no expectation that I should join in any actitivies, especially not ones involving organising children.

UptoapointLordCopper · 20/04/2011 21:17

Ooo! Italics doesn't work the way I thought it works.

tillyfernackerpants · 20/04/2011 22:02

Hiya, am now at my parents.

P
vbus, I would've said hi but you were past me by the time I'd realised it was you. You were walking towards the pagoda & we were sat to the side. We also got to see the peacock, must of headed our way after seeing you!

Am typing on new phone & its very slow so am giving up, will hopefully be back to catch up properly tomorrow, hope everyone is ok

sfxmum · 21/04/2011 13:25

hello

tilly hope you enjoy the break

kora yes bike good idea (really must learn that) meltdown looks good but I think I met my quota of gigs until the Summer, babysitting wise

vbus hope you managed to do all your stuff and chill a bit, enjoy the holidays
very amused at your DS's reaction to the wedding, dd is not really aware of wedding but she saw a book in ELC about princess Kate and a mag in WHSmith with a princess Kate dollShock

copper positive discipline is a lot like what we used to do when working with SN 'challenging behaviour' I wish you luck Grin

dd has been quite challenging at times, she has that whole 6 going on 16 thing going. the other day I getting quite short tempered after repeating the same thing several times so I got loud, she looked terribly offended and said - mummy when your loose your temper and talk like that it hurts my feelings, then - you sound cranky perhaps you need a nap before dinnerHmm

we are taking a day off, I am exhausted and need a sofa day, along with dd and the backdrop of HSM Grin

OP posts:
sfxmum · 21/04/2011 13:27

over and over again and guess what she found a second hand DS game of HSM

OP posts:
vbus · 21/04/2011 13:42

Sfx - Shock I think you'll need to move out soon to escape HSM Grin PMSL at DD's quote! DS1 is very much into the wedding since they had Royal wedding party on last of term, he says he's going to wear red, white and blue and wave his cheesy commemorative flag

Tilly - hope you're having a nice time at your parents

Copper - sorry I don't know anything about Craft but if you find out can you pass on details as I'm sure DH would be interested!

I'm actually feeling human today having a flashback of life without kids Grin. After dropping off uber excited kids I went for a lovely swim, ran some errands which took no time without little ones in tow, had a nice lunch in garden and have packed food bag. Going to head to Kingston soon and going on a date tonight with DH to watch King's Speech tonight!

Tilly/Sfx - just found out final HP film will be in 3d!!!

sfxmum · 21/04/2011 13:50

we must make another date to go and watch it HP I mean
3D and allHmm

I thought some of you might like this for children who like Maths, we have only done the free thing but dd enjoys it

OP posts:
vbus · 21/04/2011 14:33

Ta for link, will save it for DS1, I'm sure it will be right up his street

Yes would like to go to HP Smile

UptoapointLordCopper · 21/04/2011 17:23

Hi!

Would like to see HP too, but not in 3D please. I prefer my monsters and dark wizards to be firmly on the screen.

Have never let the kids use any computer educational tools ...

There's a woodcraft folk meeting place just round the corner from us. May try it ... Will report if survive. Smile

Read one chapter of +ve discipline. Very like "How to talk". Problem is not individuals. It's the clash of personalities. Wise chinese saying: cannot clap with one hand. Hmm I'm going to adopt the "positive time-out" thing for myself. Grin

dustythedolphin · 22/04/2011 22:49

Oooh when is final HP out? DS1 has been banging on about it for ages but it kind of floats above my head a bit

Copper, have a few friends very much into Woodcraft Folk. Have heard good things about them, they do loads of fabby activities outdoors, good for building personality and team building etc, all sounds really good fun for both adults and kids. Never ventured there myself as there wasn't one local to me (closest was Ealing) - let me know what its like :)

dustythedolphin · 22/04/2011 22:56

A load of bunnies:

UptoapointLordCopper · 23/04/2011 19:26

[busmile] to all!

All day at Kew gardens with friends. Very nice. Also luckily back before thunderstorm and watched Marching with dinosaurs.

Dusty - Woodcraft people not far from us at all. It's the "team building" > and "building personality" parts that scare me. [bugrin] Also parental involvement. >.

dustythedolphin · 23/04/2011 21:57

Copper IKWYM!

The "folks" I knew who went are not like that at all though, very laid back and (dare I say it?) "hippy"...

Kew Gardens in sun is fabby :)

We had a hot day of driving kids around to music lessons, footie, parties, interpersed with bits of walking and bike riding, topped with wine with some mummies at a birthday party

Missed Dr Who though and forgot to record :(

sfxmum · 23/04/2011 22:05

dusty that is what iplayer is for, great opening episode, day sounds lovely btw

copper I asked dh about folk and he said hippy boy scouts Grin

we went to Kew yesterday for picnic very nice and very busy, the bluebells looked gorgeous
we likely will be back tomorrow for egg hunt

OP posts:
sfxmum · 23/04/2011 22:06

dh&dd were caught up in thunderstorm and got home looking like drowned rats

OP posts:
dustythedolphin · 23/04/2011 23:02

SFX Grin - Hippy boy scouts is precisely how I always imagined the Woodcraft Folk - quite a nice image though

DS1 (who is not a technophobe like me) says BBC I player does not work in Repubclic of Ireland, only in north - will have to investigate tomorrow

Kora · 24/04/2011 20:41

Happy Easter everyone!! So nice to have a rest, and the sun out too (albeit with some added thunder and lightning for good measure). Please count me in for HP outing!!! Don't mind 3D or not. Does 3D actually work? haven't been to proper cinema in ages...

DD2 has started crawling properly. House is chaos. DH has spent a lot of Easter hols attaching cupboard locks, but placated him with chocolate egg today Grin

Woodcraft folk sounds good. Do they deign to allow little girls in?

Kora · 24/04/2011 20:45

Just googled them, and they do! Very inclusive in fact. I shall check them out - has anyone tried them already or just planning to?

UptoapointLordCopper · 24/04/2011 20:47

Kora - friend's little girl goes to woodcraft. I think they are inclusive. Unlike boy scouts. Grin I think we'll just brave it one day ...

Lazy day. Watched Charlie and the chocolate factory. Now watching ghostbusters. Grin

UptoapointLordCopper · 24/04/2011 20:47

xpost Kora!

sfxmum · 24/04/2011 21:06

Hello

I quite like the idea of hippy inclusive scouts Grin you see them a lot at festivals managing activities

very nice time we have had Kew has been the central point

Kora attaching furniture is essential dd was a climber Shock

we are planning on a BBQ at the back of the building, did it last year too
some neighbours join other sneer Grin

one more day of holidays then 4 more of rest for the troops not I
must catch up with study like mad and up my running a bit if at all possible, can't fit into my summer clothes from last year...

sfxmum · 24/04/2011 21:08
