I love the book of Howl's Moving Castle, and the film is visually stunning, but I cannot follow the film's plot at all Blush.

dustythedolphin · 03/09/2010 23:23

Cannot fathom who Windy is!

Vbus I stood my ground and they agreed to take it off the market today Wink

vbus · 04/09/2010 11:23

Dusty - good for you and well done Smile

Windy - hello! Glad school went well. I think I'll be a mess next week, have really tried not thinking about school starting, feeling quite emotional about it. Enjoy festival, we're off to beer fest at local pub soon

Sfx - yes to meet up and massage! What time were you thinking of? Jam is lovely thanks for asking. Sorry don't think I'll be in tomorrow, I'm planning my big escape Grin

Went to Jamie O restaurant for our wedding anniversary last night which was fab, food was delicious

dustythedolphin · 04/09/2010 13:38

Envy of your meal out Vbus, sounds delicious!

Has anyone been watching "Pillars of the Earth"? Its marvellous - and I am in love with Brother Phillip (that soft Welsh accent gives me goosebumps)

Been told we have to pay 20,000 euros depsit to agree sale on dream house. This is normal prectice in Irekand and one I wasn't aware of Confused

Frantically scrabbling around trying to beg, borrow and steal Wink the deposit

tillyfernackerpants · 04/09/2010 13:47

Hi all, am logging on in the wilds of Yorkshire! Came for a last summer visit before ds1 starts school plus SIL came over for a visit with dn so wanted to see them as well.

vbus, ikwym about starting school. Ds1 starts Weds, will have to have tissues ready I think Blush. But at the same time am looking forward to being able to do things that ds2 may enjoy more!

dusty, well done on house front. A friend of mine works for an estate agent & it seems to be coming common practice to leave a house on the market until people have exchanged, unless you specifically state to take it off. Really dodgy way of doing business imho!

sfx, so did dd enjoy or hate Bratz? Grin

Windy, I think I know who you are Confused

sfxmum · 04/09/2010 18:13

hi all have been on family day out to the local pool and so on they are off now on a geocashing adventure Hmm

vbus didn't think you would be around, enjoy your escape
and about Friday about about 10-11?
Jamie's sounds good friends keeping raving about it, is it the one in Kingston?

I am on solo day out with dd tomorrow as dh has his induction rowing thingy and some studying to do, anyone for Kew?

dusty I hope you manage the buy, such processes are always stressful but I guess ultimately worth it when all is done - good luck

tilly enjoy the wildernessGrin no firm verdict on Bratz yet, I think she feels she ought to like it but goodness I had never watched it before it is truly vomit inducing

KewC have your ds's fleece let me know when good time to return

professor visually stunning will do me,I think all of his work is quite beautiful and engaging, was not aware of book.

OP posts:
ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 04/09/2010 20:07

Book

Diana Wynne Jones beloved by Neil Gaiman among others (and also now on her last legs in palliative care for cancer, very sadly).

dustythedolphin · 05/09/2010 00:11

SFX promise me you will come and visit when we manage to buy and settle!!

Hope DH's rowing goes well

Tilly sounds amazing, what is the weather like? Its nice to fit in a magical trip before the grind of autumn

odetothewestwind · 05/09/2010 07:18

Oooh, lucky you Tilly - and good idea, too, to have one last getaway! We were eased into the whole school thing again with just 2 days last week - but it's a full one ahead, yikes!

Tilly, btw it is me, the other one who recently moved ;-)

SFX, lol at Bratz, hopefully it is just a phase.

Vbus, coat arrived, got black one and it is perfect! Albeit rather long sleeves but am beginning to think at this point that I must have abnormally long arms as this seems to happen often! At least I will be extra-dry!

Am pondering over all the extra-curricular activities on offer and "how much is too much". Currently have things potentially planned for Tues, Thurs and Sat mornings and am thinking maybe that is enough! Think it will be rainbows, swimming and gymnastics - but the thing is would also be v keen to do something musical but perhaps we will wait until after Christmas to see how dd is coping, don't want to push her too much.

Have a surplus of lemons here and so another Jamie O lemon cake beckons :)

dustythedolphin · 05/09/2010 12:22

Windy - think I know who you are now Wink

I have a rule of thumb that three extra curriculum is enough.

Mine do: swimming, music and another sport/dance

I think that financial and in terms of the DCs (and us) not getting too burnt out, three is my limit

We also have a balance between choosing classes we want them to do (swimming) and the ones they want to do (music/dance/other sports) Wink

They often pretend to be sick on swimming days so I say "well if you are too sick for swimming, I don't think you should go to badminton tomorrow either" Wink

sfxmum · 05/09/2010 12:54

hello

woken by grocery delivery guy who was mightily annoyed, apparently had been at door for 20minHmmBlushGrin

anyway

dusty we will do an Ireland holiday at some point next year I think and would love to pop by thanks

westwind yes I think we will stick to 3, disco artyard and music meaning Tue, Thu and Saturday there has to be time left for family, study and just plain farting about
not to mention I don't really fancy the dash here and there to classes

OP posts:
UptoapointLordCopper · 05/09/2010 19:07

Hello!

I see rain forecast the next five days. Anyone else got a better forecast? Hmm

Nice party yesterday with nice weather. But some guests didn't turn up and didn't say they weren't coming. Angry Does anyone want leftover pumpkin cakes?

DS1 starts school tomorrow and DS2 in a couple of weeks. We don't do after school activities at all, only music on Saturday ... May start taking them to swim one day a week again.

Went to Ealing and bought lots of books from Oxfam Smile. Am going to attempt Moby Dick. Shock

UptoapointLordCopper · 06/09/2010 09:29

Back to school. Sad

vbus · 06/09/2010 14:10

Hello all

Sfx - sorry I cannot do Fri am just remembered that DS2 swimming lessons start that day. Hope you can find someone else to go with. yes, went to Kingston restaurant, it was excellent

Windy - not sure which coat you went for, I go the Merrel one, it's lovely but I agree sleeves are a bit on long side, oh well I'm sure we'll survive, better than being too short Grin

I think Ds1 will just stick with swimming for now, and possibly football, I think that will be enough for him for now

Spent the day at Westfield yesterday, shopper's paradise!

sfxmum · 06/09/2010 15:56

hello all

vbus another time

any other takers? apparently there is champagne involved as well as hand massageWink

lordcopper just how rude can people be!

good start to week but a tad busy, after school activities now all sorted and paid for

let the rain begin

OP posts:
sfxmum · 06/09/2010 15:59

still not been to Westfield might go there Friday if no takers for Kingston
shopping centres scare me but my sister says this one is quite open and not claustrophobic

OP posts:
UptoapointLordCopper · 06/09/2010 16:27

Back from school. Got new book bags. DS1's old one is really manky ...

Can I just have the champagne but not the hand massage? Grin

Now to shop for some spring bulbs. Plans to beautify garden!

sfxmum · 06/09/2010 16:45

well the invite says champagne and treats while enjoying a complimentary hand massage to launch new fragrance which to my nose smells lovely

dd looks totally knackered, after consuming an impressive amount of fruit and some toast she had a lie down and his demanding dinner

OP posts:
UptoapointLordCopper · 06/09/2010 16:52

DS2 has demanded pancakes for tea. Hmm

But they are screeching and being completely feral. Feeding them would be a mistake. Grin

UptoapointLordCopper · 06/09/2010 16:53

sfx - I can't stand fragrance. Will get a headache and feel sick... Best not to do it. Can you smuggle champagne out? Grin Bring large handbag.

sfxmum · 06/09/2010 17:46

getting slightly worried about teacher's talk about death, apparently the body gets very tired and you fall sleep and don't go wrongHmm what can possibly go wrong?

also dd ran out of class and asked me what religion we were I told her we were atheists and she could be whatever she wants when she grows up

OP posts:
sfxmum · 06/09/2010 17:47

fall asleep and don't wake up - it should read

OP posts:
UptoapointLordCopper · 06/09/2010 17:58

Bit early in the term to talk about death, isn't it? Did teacher not have a good summer? Does she have children? Would explain a lot. Grin

sfxmum · 06/09/2010 18:42

she is 22 no children and concept of death probably as foreign as retirement

OP posts:
ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 06/09/2010 18:58

You are absolutely not supposed to refer to death as "going to sleep" when talking to children. Has she received any training whatsoever ?
