DS2 is much more scary awake than asleep.

We seem to be having lots of loud voices these days, mainly consisting of me trying to get his attention... Are 4YOs deaf?

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 26/08/2010 13:30

Yes. I actually got the HV to refer DS for a hearing test at rising-4 because he was doing such a good job of pretending not to hear me. His hearing was fine, of course.

UptoapointLordCopper · 26/08/2010 14:05

DS2 had hearing tests when he was very very little and he was fine. I'll try to revise my How-to-talk book, but I think the problem with the book is that it doesn't ban loud voices. Or I'll just keep quiet and let him get on with being mad.

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 26/08/2010 14:08

Clear hearing tests when little don't necessarily mean that they can hear fine at 4, of course. In DS's case he'd had a lot of ear infections with burst eardrums so there was a possibility that there was some problem left over from that. But no -- I just sat there looking like Ms Paranoid while he aced every hearing test .

vbus · 26/08/2010 15:09

We had a 11.30pm wake up call from DS2 who's teething then DS1 had a nightmare at 5.30am, also quite tired, yawn.

Been and bought school shoes. Now school shop is done, labels have arrived, just need to do sewing one evening.

Anyone else feel like Autumn as arrived early?

UptoapointLordCopper · 26/08/2010 18:12

Watching end of Madagascar. LOL at how primates wangle maternity leave from penguins by blackmail.

vbus · 26/08/2010 19:21

Must try and get that on dvd, DS1 loved the 1st one, plus I watched it at cinema when I was pregnant with him so it feels special!

I'm annoyed. When we were in shoe shop today, DS1 said shoe was too tight asst kept saying 'I've done velcro too tight and shoes are new so they'll be fine', I kept saying they looked like not much room in them. In the end she said try them at home and see how they are. We just tried before bedtime, I think they're on small side, dead annoying as have to find time to go back now tom Angry Probably next size will be too big but is it better to go for next size as he might outgrow these in weeks?

UptoapointLordCopper · 26/08/2010 19:56

vbus - are they tight length-wise or width-wise or both? I would go for slightly bigger as long as they don't slip. But there are videos to show you how to fit shoes so you don't have to just "trust" the spotty youths shop assistants Grin.

sfxmum · 26/08/2010 20:34

hello all

yes selective hearing quite a big deal for a while here positively nearly drove me to despairGrin

about shoes I decided only ever to buy dd's shoes at One small step in Sheen or The Shoe Station in Kew always good service and they takes ages making sure things fit properly, at least so far an in my opinion

spent a nice afternoon celebration teen nephew's birthday, very tired now

KewC how is ds? trust still healthy?

OP posts:
vbus · 27/08/2010 14:29

Sfx - Poor DD, hope you're both not too tired today. DS2 actually slept through for first time in wks, another night like that and I might actually feel human Grin

Copper - do you like your new coat?

Think I will take shoes back and get a 2nd opinion. Should've just tried next size on in shop but was under time contraint

Off for playdate soon

Got wedding this wkend, hope weather brightens up. Anyone got any BH plans. Enjoy the camping KC!

UptoapointLordCopper · 27/08/2010 14:57

Friends have just left - had a thoroughly enjoyable day so far. Out to library and lunchbox-hunting soon (so I can wear my new jacket Smile).

sfx - it's the orange one I sent you a link to. I don't already have one. That would be mad. Grin DS2 does have one very similar one though.

sfxmum · 27/08/2010 15:09

Hi all, toy library & tennis today so been busy!

vbus, hope ds2 sleeps through for you again!!

sfx, hope dd has a better night also!

Am off to take ds1 for school shoes tomorrow, fingers crossed there's some left Grin

UptoapointLordCopper · 27/08/2010 20:02

Re shoe-shoping - you have to be really thick-skinned. We viewed about 10 pairs of shoes, kids tried on about 8 pairs, before we settled on what we were going to buy. Last time I was polite and came away feeling unsatisfied. This time I just pretended to be apologetic but insisted on trying on more till we find the right ones.

tillyfernackerpants · 27/08/2010 20:23

copper, thanks for tip, unfortunately ds1 will just go with first pair he tries on, takes after dh!

sfxmum · 27/08/2010 22:12

tilly that may well be the advantage with dd she loves prancing about trying different shoes and discussing her impressions with the shop person, no idea where that gene came fromConfused
but she thinks school shoes are boring no chance for sparkles, PE day for pink trainers, and rainy days when she can wear wellies are highlights

we will likely go to Kew tomorrow for that sound thing at the greenhouse and just a nice walk about

OP posts:
tillyfernackerpants · 28/08/2010 13:59

Succeeded with school shoes. We went to John Lewis this morning, have to say I was v impressed with their service even though it was really busy.

I am ashamed to say though we ended buying the shoes with the little toys in Blush. Though in my defence, I didn't realise at the time that's what they were!

vbus · 28/08/2010 15:35

Tilly - shoes with toys in??? Do elaborate!

In the end got 2nd opinion from DH and he said shoes looked good so did not go back to shop. Thank for the tip though Copper.
Have done ridiculous amount of shopping in Kingston today though for both boys clothes and have now got DS1 winter coat amongst other things and DS2 1st pair of wellies, cute! Nice to see a bit of sunhsine too!

sfxmum · 28/08/2010 16:40

tilly dd had a pair of trainers with a dolly inside
I still need to get dd a warm winter waterproof coat mostly for school think M&S do some suitable ones, she has a nice coast but only for dry weather

Kew was quite lovely today although we we not there long
putting my judgy pants I wonder why people wear spike heals and mini dresses to wander about the botanical gardens along with some questionable application of laceHmm am obviously getting old

OP posts:
UptoapointLordCopper · 28/08/2010 19:01

Hello!

Well done all on shoe-shopping! I think Clarks do the toys in shoes business. DS1's ones has clip-on power-ranger type badges.

DS1 has a winter jacket from M&S. It's warm but bulky. Next one I get him will be thinner.

All the winter coats I like are sold out. Sad Have dug out old coat from Australia (bought 19 years ago Shock Shock). In the wash now. But what are opinions on these:

www.amazon.co.uk/Womens-Regular-Squall-Parka-Size/dp/B002MQ7WQA/ref=sr_1_47?ie=UTF8&s=clothing&qid=1283013742&sr=1-47

www.amazon.co.uk/Womens-Regular-Delancey-Coat-Size/dp/B002MQ5SMA/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&s=clothing&qid=1283013651&sr=1-4

Dull, aren't they?

DSs had to get their own dinner (cheese sandwich) on account of dilly-dallying. Conversation at dinner:

DS2: I'm a cheese monster.
DS1: I'm a butter monster.
DS2: And Daddy is a computer monster.
DS1: Yeah, and Mummy is a cross-patch monster.

Grin

They did manage to do it though. That's the way ahead, I think.

sfxmum · 28/08/2010 19:15

I am still in love with my Aigle winter coat I think I will be wearing it until it falls apart

lordcopper did that eat a computer?

OP posts:
sfxmum · 28/08/2010 19:15
