Hope everyone enjoying Halloween [hsmile]

I did answer door to a few trick or treaters but then cunningly left bowl of sweets and pumpkin outside while putting boys to bed, told them not to ring bell but just to help themselves. Seems to have worked, I wasn't disturbed and bowl was empty when I came downstairs [hgrin]

Copper - I think you can start no later than 1mth before Xmas so it's a good time to make it

Going to bed soon so tired, DS2 was up at 5.30am due to clock change and DS1 was up 3 times in night with nightmares, aaargggh

UptoapointLordCopper · 31/10/2010 20:41

tilly - I was in Ealing today and saw the boarded up shops. No AB Superstore! Disaster! I guess it's to do with the development of whatever-they-call-it - that car park behind the town hall.

DH and I were talking (!!) and the subject of "family values" came up. But we don't know what people mean when they say "family values". What do people mean? Anyone knows?

sfxmum · 31/10/2010 21:00

family values like 'common sense' is quite subjective and usually a handy way to lead into exposing all manner of prejudice dearly held beliefs

nice Halloween here DH went rowing dd went trick or treating and I was mostly left home, marvellousGrin

inset day tomorrow off to friends and hopefully the 'specialist' will visit will plumber and sort out our boilerHmm

lordcopper deffo get on with cake, what booze are you feeding it?

OP posts:
UptoapointLordCopper · 31/10/2010 22:11

Feeding cake? I thought cake is supposed to be feeding us. Confused Grin Probably brandy. My family has been feeding cakes brandy for generations etc etc. Is that family values? Grin

Inset day!? Let's hope our school is not doing that. The website has last year's term dates. Bloody luddites.

dustythedolphin · 31/10/2010 23:16

[hgrin]

sfxmum · 01/11/2010 11:35

meanwhile in the my boiler saga

the plumber is not well today so not coming and his friend the specialist got electrocuted at the weekend Shock

OP posts:
vbus · 01/11/2010 14:45

Sfx - [hshock] and sorry but [hgrin], where did you get these people from?

tillyfernackerpants · 01/11/2010 15:09

vbus, hope you've had a lovely day. Must admit I'm feeling a bit Envy of you!! Sorry about tomorrow, an old uni friend is coming down & tomorrow is the only day they can meet up!

I'm actually hoping to persuade dh to take ds2 on his own as I'm so close to finishing an essay off!

sfxmum · 01/11/2010 17:46

tilly did you finish the essay?

vbus we got them from the same place we always do and never had any problems before, now it is a comedy of errors verging on slapstick, I could cry or throw a tantrum

last night the estate 'estate' neighbours decided to bring their domestic incident onto the street(at about 3am), lots screaming shouting and general unpleasantness for about 45mins until the police showed upHmm
then when I was finally back to sleep
dd had a bad dream

so will we find out what is going on with Lucas tonight?

OP posts:
UptoapointLordCopper · 01/11/2010 20:00

sfx - Shock at electrocution. Not fatal, I hope.

Took the kids swimming this afternoon. Splashed and floundered. Witnessed an eviction of unaccompanied children, and a false fire alarm.

Also don't quite get these swimming lessons where the teacher stays on dry land. Does that work!?

Nearly forgot about Spooks! This Lucas is a bad 'un. We'll see just how bad this time, I expect.

UptoapointLordCopper · 01/11/2010 20:03

Also have been reading about a Chinese book that I've just read. I thought it was really really awful, but it seems the rest of the Chinese-reading world thinks it's the cat's pyjamas/dog's bollocks/bee's knees. Hmm Most disturbing. Not changing my mind though ...

UptoapointLordCopper · 01/11/2010 21:01

And re: christmas cake. What is a christmas cake? Would any old drunken fruit cake do? I can't see the difference ...

sfxmum · 01/11/2010 22:05

lorcoppper I think that with those disparaging remarks about Christmas cake the new coalition might find you unworthy and ship you out that is almost as bad as the cricket test
Grin
what book is that? may you you have been gone too long, careful you might get stranded halfway

Lucas Lucas oh dear but best use of an iron I have seen in ages

UptoapointLordCopper · 01/11/2010 22:32

But am I essentially right about the venerable christmas cake?

A rubbish book is a rubbish book - predictable story line (think "Love Story" and leukemia), shallow characterisation, full of any stereotypes you can think of etc etc. Book for teenager who knows no better. (Not to say such books cannot be popular. Grin)

Good use of iron and washing-up liquid. Grin Can't wait for next episode. Is Lucas irredeemable?

sfxmum · 01/11/2010 22:38

I do believe he has sign on for some big film or something

After the current book I will have a look at a teen trilogy called Hunger Games, apparently in pre production for Hollywood

OP posts:
sfxmum · 01/11/2010 22:39

I do like some fluff once in a while but these seem to be a bit like Logan's Run with a funky teen girl heroine

OP posts:
tillyfernackerpants · 02/11/2010 13:05

Just caught up on Masterchef, I'm sorry it may be the top restaurant in the world but I like some food when I go out to eat!

Think I will finish the Millennium trilogy next, just reading an Agatha Christie, bit of light reading after The Road

sfxmum · 02/11/2010 13:41

Slightly puzzled as to why the genius mix on my itunes thinks that the folder entitled grunge mix should contain John Cooper Clark next to Nick Drake and the Folk Mix has the BeeGees Confused

listening to the children telling what they did on half term seems that Despicable Me did good business, I thought it was funny

OP posts:
dustythedolphin · 02/11/2010 13:49

Copper which pool was that? Grin

Vbus hope your Uni meet up went well - sounds nice

SFX how's yer plumbing today? Is plumber still feeling a bit frazzled

Am, over next week to empty the house :) :( :) :(

UptoapointLordCopper · 02/11/2010 14:19

Hello!

dusty - Gurnell pool. Refurbished family changing room very nice.

tilly- only saw tail end of masterchef last night, with adulation of somebody called Pierre. Is that the no-food restaurant person? Know what you mean though. Those teeny portions look pretty but normal people prefer to eat when going to restaurants and go to Bond street or some such places to look at pretty things.

Promised kids a bus trip to the library. DS2 is still being disappointed re school reading book (ie absence of) but I've made him library card to compensate. Grin

tillyfernackerpants · 02/11/2010 14:39

Copper, no Pierre was on earlier (apparently revolutionised pastries! This is the no food restaurant, the chef sends his staff out foraging Confused

sfxmum · 02/11/2010 14:41

I think I read about a restaurant once which mainly served stuff which was 'essence' of and that basically meant flavours and smells distilled into mouse like experiences

OP posts:
sfxmum · 02/11/2010 14:49

might be this one

OP posts:
UptoapointLordCopper · 02/11/2010 19:38

tilly - menu looks OK though. Quite fancy "oyster and the sea". Hmm I suppose it depends on quite how much of the sea is presented ... sfx's nomination looks completely odd though. Don't understand this "experience" business. Want food. Philistine? Or having priorities right way round?
