hello folks chat away

do you mean all their organic vegetables are Duchy? did not realise they had such a big operation, are you sure?
I know Waitrose sell their biscuits/cheese / jam / bread etc. but I generally avoid it quite easily

dd has disco club after school so it is an extra hr before I see her, am sure she is not anticipating missing me as I am anticipating missing her Smile
helped in class this morning, distinctly different style, the children were excitedly reporting the police activity around Kew yesterday afternoon, we are so in the hoodHmm

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 14/09/2010 11:50

I don't know about veg, but a lot of lines (e.g. milk) where there used to be "Waitrose Organic" products now just have "Duchy Organic".

UptoapointLordCopper · 14/09/2010 12:40

I noticed the organic milk changing to Duchy Original. I do buy their organic yogurt but that doesn't seem to have changed. Yet. But actually we get veg from a veg box scheme and milk from the milkman. I hardly buy cakes and biscuits, especially not Duchy Original ones. BUT IT'S THE PRINCIPLE OF THE THING!!!! Down with the monarchy. And the pope. May the pigeons of London poo on their collective heads.

(Can you see I'm having a good day so far?)

sfxmum · 15/09/2010 12:27

hello

lordcopper how goes the day today?

very nice to see the sun, went for walk and enquire after my contacts apparently they forgot to call me, they had been there for over a month

Disco club was a huge success
she told me 'it was just girls YES!'

UptoapointLordCopper · 15/09/2010 14:55

Hello!

So-so day so far.

Changed DS2's duvet to the "big" duvet. He said it was cold last night. Pretty rich from a boy who sleeps on top of the duvet in midwinter. But he's got a cool duvet cover - wolves and sheep... Had to give DS1 a new cover as well - cars and motorbikes. We love Ikea textile. Smile

sfx - what's a disco club?

Now to pick up the monsters.

vbus · 15/09/2010 16:52

Hello all

Flung into the craziness that is school term Grin Been busy with playdates for Ds1 and playgroups for Ds2, thankfully had nothing on today so baked Nigella's orange muffins, one of my fave muffin recipes ever.

Not impressed with Ocado lately, might go back to Tesco.

Tilly - how is DS1 doing? Going to Little fishes tom 10am if you fancy it

Sfx - LOL at DD's thoughts on disco club!

KC - how did Gherkin get on at school?

Hope everyone well Smile

sfxmum · 15/09/2010 17:19

lordcopper disco club is a school provided after class activity

vbus embrace the madnessGrin baked another batch of breakfast muffins

dd had terrible cough last night and woke up several times wasn't keen on going to school this morning but was persuaded to go, arrived home saying she was energetic and had a lovely day, hope she sleeps better tonight

tilly when is the proper cast being put on?

OP posts:
tillyfernackerpants · 15/09/2010 17:42

Ds1 is fine, got his proper cast today which is a lovely shade of blue Grin. Also it might only have to be on for 2 weeks, we'll see but fingers crossed!!

vbus, can't do tom but maybe next week? Am impressed you're managing to fit in playdates for ds1!!

UptoapointLordCopper · 15/09/2010 18:10

We seem to be spending a lot of time in the park on the way home. Even when it rains ... Very often we are the only ones there. Everyone else are half-pints. Grin Or have better things to do, I suppose ...

Haven't baked anything yet. But have breads and cakes planned for tomorrow. One chocolate cake for nursery as goodbye, and one for, er, just because. Can't have the oven on for just one cake. It's not green.

But very tired now ...

tillyfernackerpants · 15/09/2010 18:17

I'm planning on bread and cookies tomorrow. Apparently sandwich, yogurt & fruit isn't enough at lunchtime, ds1 needs a treat as well Hmm. Thought if they're homemade it might be slightly better!

sfxmum · 15/09/2010 18:31

we were not allowed to send cake or cookies, homemade but school dinners have puddings which include cakeConfused
still she prefers a warm meal so not complaining

need to bake bread have not done it for quite a while might even start the sourdough thingy it is my favourite bread

OP posts:
UptoapointLordCopper · 15/09/2010 18:36

We are allowed cakes. Grin In fact DS1 reports that some kids have crisps and I've heard a woman telling her DD about her nutella sandwich. All in all I prefer the relaxed attitude. Give them a good breakfast and a good dinner and give them calories for lunch.

UptoapointLordCopper · 15/09/2010 19:03

Actually I don't know if we are allowed cakes or not. This is part of the famous communication problem ("Communication problem? What communication problem? Most parents are happy with it." - note the Ostrich position) with our school. We are not allowed fizzy drinks, crisps, and sweets. (Are chocolate sweets? Confused I think not.) Sometimes we are not allowed nuts. Hmm Apparently this is school policy that is not written down anywhere.

But we have quite healthy packed lunches anyway. I don't need nobody to tell me how to do a healthy lunch. My mother used to teach home science.

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 15/09/2010 19:28

As a mid-morning snack we are supposed to send fruit or veg Monday-Thursday; can send other stuff "but not sweets or a chocolate bar" on Fridays. Not allowed any nuts, though.

vbus · 15/09/2010 19:53

Tilly - It wasn't really planned, Mon's playdate was spontaneous with a friend who has been away all summer and really wanted to see her, Tue I'd offered to look after DS1 friend as her mum just out of hospital. But that's it for this wk now (apart from swimming/footy). Yes to meet up next week though with just the littlies!

No idea about school lunch policy, will worry about that next term Grin They give fruit for morning snack

Dh and I are annoyed that his (inconsiderate) BF has asked to stay for a few nights and is on his way. We don't feel like refusing him but timing is really bad (school start and my parents visiting at wkend). He did this to us after we'd just moved in, he said he felt guilty as we'd had just moved in and had kids etc so why do it again???? Angry Should just book a hotel esp as he is out tom night anwyay Hmm Sorry, rant over, feel better already

UptoapointLordCopper · 15/09/2010 19:58

Just a sanity check: do you help your DC dry themselves after bath? How old are they?

Really, the question is, when is it reasonable to make them do it themselves? Throw in the towel, so to speak?

tillyfernackerpants · 15/09/2010 20:10

Copper, ds1 mainly does it himself now but more that he wanted to than from any suggestion from us!

Ds1 gets fruit midmorning from the school, not had any official policy from the school re lunches. If I go by ds1, then crisps are allowed as K had them!

vbus, v inconsiderate esp to do it again! Could you leave a few hotel brochures on his pillow to give him the hint? Grin Though that may be a bit passive aggressive

sfxmum · 15/09/2010 20:10

re towel dd mostly does it herself repeating to what I say 'between toes' 'under arms and fold' etc.

vbus friend seems a tad self centred maybe a NO would not be out of place

mid morning snack is fruit but no mid afternoon snack, wish they allowed something in the bag
nuts big no no and the policy is written we h

sorry not sure what happened there

OP posts:
UptoapointLordCopper · 15/09/2010 20:23

I'm not a good parent. All these policies (apart from the nut one) just make me want to tell them to f-off (though of course I'm too polite to do so so I just quietly seethe). Do you think I have a problem with authority? Hmm

Re: towel, I've somehow slipped into helping DS1 again. Hmm Must desist.

vbus · 15/09/2010 20:24

Sfx- Shock at signed policy to get to them to bed on time. Taking common sense to the etxreme

Copper - I still dry the DC, DS1 not very good at doing it himself and I end up doing it again anyway!

1st thing friend just said when he walked in 'I'm like bad penny aren't I?' I replied 'you said it' Grin He did want to stay til Sun but we said no to that, he would have to leave on Fri. Thankfully they have gone to pub now and I overheard DH say that drinks were on his friend to be funded from hotel savings Wink

UptoapointLordCopper · 16/09/2010 17:54

Hello!

Two loaves of bread and two cakes!

We've got a letter today from school - healthy lunch policy, no sweets, chocolate bars or NUTS. Fizzy drinks have been replaced by NUTS. There must be a hierarchy somewhere.

sfxmum · 16/09/2010 19:44

hello all

vbus the thing with common sense is that it is not the same for everyone, I suppose they make you sing as agreement so that when the child shows up too tired day after day they have a starting point to start a conversation with the parent, although not sure it makes any difference by that stage

busy day here but got lots done, feel productive, starting with jogging 4 miles after drop offGringood result as I woke up feeling like I should just stay in bed

SushiMummy · 17/09/2010 07:42
