Aw Tilly, poor ds! Hope the pain lessens soon. And how are all the other new starters? Hope it is going well. dd seems to be having a ball and seems to be settling in well - phew! And ds LOVES his little nursery.

Had a near-miss on a country road just outside town yesterday when a deer ran just in front of the car. Luckily I had only been doing circa 25mph as I didn't know the road.

SFX, are you going for your posh hand massage today? You should! WRT Westfield - I made it there a couple of times (hate shopping centres with a passion~) - and actually thought it was pretty good!

Need ideas for a pudding to impress for 8 people - has anyone any tried and tested failsafe recipes? WAs thinking of a cheesecake or perhaps trifle or tiramasu.

Dusty, how is the house stuff going, is it all looking positive?

stepfordwife · 10/09/2010 09:08

hello!

oh tilly, poor ds1! but he'll ( or you) will never forget his first day at school, eh?

windy (!) glad dd and ds have settled in well at school/nursery and that you're enjoying life there. takes a while to settle, doesn't it?

yes, vbus, we're still here! and actually had some sunshine today. whooo-hoo!
there's a fabulous open-air 34th-floor bar hee taking up the entire top floor. we haven't been as it's hardly been open due to the monsoon and we've always got three kids in tow.

but asked for a babysitter and somehow the assistant hotel manager has volunteered to babysit!! feel faintly embarrassed by this as sure she's got a million more important things to do..but sure i'll get over that when i'm sippig champagne in the bar!

and we've been invited to a ganesh party tomorrow by a bloke dh works with. we're the first foreigners he's had to his home so feel honoured. (prays the dcs will behave themselves so it's not the last.....)

have a good weekend, all

Hello!

Envy Steppie living the high life. What's a Ganesh party?

Morning went well until I discover that the coping strategy for "put your shoes on now or we'll be late" is read a book ...

UptoapointLordCopper · 10/09/2010 09:32

Also on subject of broken bones - two friends have DSs with broken arms last year - it seems that the kids got on with "normal" life far quicker and more easily than the grown-ups ...

Now I have a few more lies to write for work and then packing ready for soaking camping.

Down with homebase. Online is where it's at these days. But surely you can get something for under 2 pounds in a shop without paying 2 pounds P&P!? What has the world come to?

sfxmum · 10/09/2010 10:52

hello

tilly how is ds today?

steppie that sounds terribly glamorous enjoyGrinhow was Goa?

westwind decided against in the end, not quite in the mood for it today

lordcopper embrace soggy camping, hope you have a great time

as predicted dd was concerned about death last night, she asked me if death was really real, then told me she was tired and getting old and that she did not like going to sleep and that I am old tooHmm anyway much reassurance and cuddles needed, then I needed some of those too from dh

dh has an end of contract date 30/09 and as yet no new contract

on plus side spoke to TA this morning and she thinks dd is much more involved in the classroom and will initiate games and conversations which include others

sfxmum · 10/09/2010 12:09

westwind meant to add for dessert when I have to feed a few always go for Eton mess and variations there of simple and tasty but not much wow factor I guess, still never have left overs and it is stress free

OP posts:
UptoapointLordCopper · 10/09/2010 12:12

Desserts: I usually do cakes, or crumbles, or treacle sponge (dead easy but somehow people think it's a great feat), or blueberry almond bar - this one looks shop-bought, even for someone like me who doesn't do presentation.

UptoapointLordCopper · 10/09/2010 12:14

Have ordered green manure seeds online, but felt compelled to order more than one packet, so looking forward to rocket and lamb lettuce in the coming months!

tillyfernackerpants · 10/09/2010 13:04

Thanks for good wishes. Ds1 seems ok, have sent him to school thinking best to keep everything as normal. He was worried everyone would laugh at him Sad but he saw another little girl in a sparkly pink cast so was hoping the dr might give him a blue one when he gets his proper one next week!!

steppie, v Envy of your trip, hope you enjoyed the champagne bar!

odetothewestwind · 10/09/2010 14:08

I don't like being called windy Angry time for yet another name change, methinks!

Tilly, glad your little action man was ok, he'll no doubt be very popular at school!

SFX, it is difficult having those chats, dd frequently asks "what age is Grandma", when and why did Grandma's mummy die ... it is a hard one. Fingers crossed for dh on the work front, is he in touch with lots of agencies?

Am volunteering to do reading at dd's new school, am looking forward to getting involved.

vbus · 10/09/2010 14:13

Tilly - poor thing, hope he feels better soon and gets his spangly cast!

Steppie - enjoy sky high bar, sounds lovely. We went to Ganesh festival once when we visiting, lots of Ganesh statues and sweets Grin

Sfx - did you go for massage? hope you enjoyed it if you did. Bit worrying about all the death talk, nice welcome back after summer hols Hmm

Windy - Choc orange mousse never fails to impress, it's easy and can be made the day before!

Copper - good luck with wet camping, just wrap up warm esp at night

Dusty - how is house sale progressing?

vbus · 10/09/2010 14:15

Oops just saw your post, what should we call you then? Grin

Kewcumber · 10/09/2010 14:18

vbus - do you want my jars?

Amctually going out for an evening... with a man Shock Its not until November and he is a bit... well gay... But a man is still a man Grin

sfxmum · 10/09/2010 14:36

LOL KewC does he have straight wealthy and available friends? Grin
might be a ruse

vbus did not go, just did a more thorough tidy up and now my hands could really do with a massage

westwind - I know slightly unnerving, she is currently worried about my aunt who is turning 80 in December. re dh he is 'out there' one of the difficulties was that they only gave him a leaving date on Tuesday, a little short confirmed notice although we knew it was coming for a few months, some of these jobs require prompt availability

  • I do reading and changing books too I quite enjoy the experience, should go back next week
OP posts:
Kewcumber · 10/09/2010 14:38

not a ruse I think - a bit extreme to divorce your wife on teh grounds that you are gay just to be a secret chick magnet! but he might have friedns...

sfxmum · 10/09/2010 14:46

oh that one

I have fallen in love with a dress in another thread this never happens here good thing I can't afford it so will not even get to try it on

OP posts:
vbus · 10/09/2010 15:55

KC - Thanks but bought jars in the end and have just now finished final batches, phew can relax til next summer Grin I needed jars urgently as wasn't sure how long fruit would last
Enjoy your 'date' Smile

Sfx - dress is gorgeous but ouch at the price

vbus · 10/09/2010 15:58

Kc - does gay friend still like women too or is it strictly men only from now on?

Kewcumber · 10/09/2010 16:02

oh he's men only I think.

vbus · 10/09/2010 16:10

Oh well, just wondered if there was future potential. Good luck with checking if he has any available friends, you never know your luck...

odetothewestwind · 10/09/2010 18:05

vbus - s'ok, I should have thought about it when I chose the name lol! Re: the mousse - you don't, perchance, have a failsafe recipe that I could nick? Deffo need something that can be done the night before as completely hectic on the day it is needed.

SFX - re: the hand massage, tis a coincidence but dh texted this morning to say that he has booked me a manicure this evening - and just as we left school this afternoon, dd looked at my hands and said "mummy your hands look like an old lady's, they are all wrinkled". Hmm

Still trying to juggle the extra curricular stuff, there are two things that dd is verrry keen to do - typically, they are both on the same afternoon but at different times AND local - so, feasible - but the girl will be exhausted! May see if we can manage it up to Christmas and change thereafter, we can always go for it on a trial basis. With some trepidation!

Kew, have fun on your date, where are you going?

SFX, luverly dress - hark at the price! But you could always work it out on a cost per wear Wink

Tilly - how is ds1 today?

tillyfernackerpants · 10/09/2010 18:13

sfx, lovely dress but have only just clocked the price Shock

Westwind, he's fine thank you. Apparently he was asked to tell everyone what happened in circle time, all suitably impressed!

kew, have fun on your night out!

sfxmum · 10/09/2010 18:29

how about this and I can pretend to be Joan from mad men, boobs out and proudGrin]

westwind manicure lovely
re activities, I think they overestimate their energy and ability to cope, I need to be careful with distance because we must walk or scoot everywhere and factor in snack time

OP posts:
ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 10/09/2010 19:02

DS has spent much of the last year trying to come up with schemes whereby he can avoid death altogether. The most complex started getting rid of the other planets for some very involved reason that I didn't entirely follow.

Nice dresses, but the Alexa one looks a bit high-cut to have your boobs properly out...

Didn't do any activities with DS in his first term in Reception, then gradually added them in as got an idea of how tired he was.

vbus · 10/09/2010 19:05

That dress is gorgeous too, prefer to the black one, maybe you can wait for the sale Wink Why are you looking for a dress, any occasion?

Westy - is that better? I'll dig out recipe and email over wkend as I'm about to cook and drink wine. Good luck with activities. DS1 tired after 2 morning plus swimming! let's see how he copes with a full week next week. He wants to do footy on Sat am too. I think I'll go for it this term and maybe stop in New year when he goes to full days if it's too much.
Enjoy the manicure!

Tilly - he's the main man!

hope everyone has a nice wkend
