Geneva Meet-Up Thread. Anyone for wine and chocolate by the lake?

MmeLindt · 09/06/2009 13:25

Thought that we could use a seperate thread to save us hijacking TML's thread with our Geneva chat.

Who is interested?

Assuming some of us still have young kids, we could meet during the day for glass of wine coffee somewhere child friendly, or a picnic? Botanical Gardens? Parc de Eaux Vives? Or nearer Nyon area. Depends where you all are.

Or do you want to get out sans enfants in the evenings?

soooooooooooo loooooooooooooong.... [whimper emoticon]

cariboo · 03/09/2009 13:47

Daytimes are much easier for me as we live in the sticks & I'm not happy driving at night, especially with a glass or 2 of veryfine!

strudelface · 03/09/2009 14:00

Cariboo you are in definite need of a lunch out sans dc and dh - but only if you promise to stop whimpering on the thread.

So early lunch on a Mon, Thurs or Friday - next week there is a holiday on the Thursday.

WHose in??

MmeLindt · 03/09/2009 14:38

I can do Monday or Friday next week for lunch.

Are you guys all over the other side of the lake? Is it easier for me to drive over to say, Coppet area? Or Nyon? I don't mind the drive.

MmeLindt · 03/09/2009 14:40

oh, God.

A holiday on Thursday. That means two days of DC at home.

I may need copious amounts of alcohol in the evening

I live in Versoix
but am happy to drive
cariboo where are you?
I can do any day next week

strudelface · 04/09/2009 10:20

Shall we do Friday next week then?

Nifty - me and the dds spent a lot of time in the hols at the plage in Versiox - could I have seen you?

Has any one used the Migros ecole to learn French? I am looking at a course in Balexert.

cariboo · 04/09/2009 10:32

lol! I live in La Rippe (which is just above Nyon) but the dc are now both going to school in Geneva - so much bloody driving, argh! - AND 2 days off next week. They've only just started & now they're going to be back home, moaning & whinging no doubt 'cos all their friends in Vaud are at school & no-one to play with. Wahhhh!

So, to cut a long whinge short, I'd love to get together next week! Lunch only for next week tho as dh has decided to give himself a mini-break in Ireland before starting his new job!

(must stop whinging - bring on the veryfine!)

Niftyblue · 04/09/2009 16:08

Strudel We lived at Versoix Plage in the holidays
I bet we have walked past each other lol

I can do friday night and I can do lunch
So will fit in

I am treating myself to wine tonight for getting through this week
Getting up 2/3 hours earlier than I have been

getting the kids to their new school
we moved them from a genva school to Vaud
cariboo I bet I pass you every morning on the motorway

strudelface · 04/09/2009 16:32

Nifty - how funny - isn't it a fab little beach and amazingly the lake isn't that cold to swim in.

So it looks like Friday lunch would suit everyone thats -

Anyone else lurking and wants to come??

MmeLindt · 04/09/2009 16:34

Lovely

Lunch on Friday sounds good. What time and where?

OP posts:
Niftyblue · 04/09/2009 16:47

The only problem there is duck fleas
But great pizza

Friday lunch fine with me

strudelface · 04/09/2009 16:57

Ahhhh is that true - MmeLindt said the bites on my dd1 could be grass mites, then another lady said lake something or other could they have been from duck fleas??

Haven't tried the pizza - was very MN and brought picnic (natch)

So let's say 12.30 (so no-one is rushing off)

but where?

Niftyblue · 04/09/2009 17:01

DD always gets duck fleas
ds does`nt
Yet they have both been in

they look like bites
they don^t hurt and only last a few days

here is central for everyone?

Niftyblue · 04/09/2009 17:01

I meant where not here

MmeLindt · 04/09/2009 17:09

Do you guys want to come into town? Or shall I come out towards you?

There is a nice wee restaurant in Eaux Vives that is nice for lunch, L'address it is called

Lunch menu

OP posts:
MmeLindt · 04/09/2009 17:15

The bagels are good, and the club sandwich (the petite carte du midi on the left side)

OP posts:
strudelface · 04/09/2009 17:27

Ah now these were really really itchy to start off with...

That looks good ML and I can drool at DVF dresses as well - haven't really ventured into that bit of Geneva - even though the dds school is up the road.

TheMysticMasseuse · 05/09/2009 15:25

hello lovely ladies, i don't want to hijack your post but if you have a minute could you read this please?

thanks and maybe see you in a few months!

cariboo · 05/09/2009 16:15

forget the duck fleas, already! so last season, darlings! Has anyone else got dc who're doing the "pont" since Thurs is Jeune genevois??

MmeLindt · 06/09/2009 16:32

What is the "pont"?

MM
I have CATed you.

OP posts:
cariboo · 06/09/2009 17:52

ehem! how long have you been here, Mme Lindt? a pont is a fiendish French import of making a one-day "bank holiday" into a 4 or 5 day long weekend!

No worries, tho. I can "do" lunch on Fri as dh won't yet have started his new job & is okay with babysitting dd.

MmeLindt · 06/09/2009 19:12

Aha! As we say in Germany, Brückentage

Brücke = Bridge

OP posts:
strudelface · 07/09/2009 09:19

In Austria it is a fenstertag

A window day!
