Geneva Meet-Up Thread. Anyone for wine and chocolate by the lake?

MmeLindt · 09/06/2009 13:25

Thought that we could use a seperate thread to save us hijacking TML's thread with our Geneva chat.

Who is interested?

Assuming some of us still have young kids, we could meet during the day for glass of wine coffee somewhere child friendly, or a picnic? Botanical Gardens? Parc de Eaux Vives? Or nearer Nyon area. Depends where you all are.

Or do you want to get out sans enfants in the evenings?

I can do Monday 22nd for lunch. Where is best for your guys? The DC are in school so I am pretty flexible.

Monday the 22nd is good for me - if we are on the right side and you are on the left why don't we meet in the middle of town - but don't ask me where - I'm the newbie.

MmeLindt · 10/06/2009 15:00

Depends on with or without DC. If we are without DC then perhaps Globus or Le Pain Quotidien (near Rive) would be good. Or does anyone know somewhere else? We have not really tried so many places in the centre of town yet.

Theres Cafe du cente across from Zara on the cobbles and across from the Globus side door

Theres Molinos which is next to it

Le Lipp up behind the confredation centre

Please ignore my spellings I am shit bad at French

The kids have the summer play in the morning so I can be there between 11.30-12.00

Trying to get another MN mum to come as well but she is serving tea and cakes after the play.
I am hoping she can finish on time so can join us to

Niftyblue · 10/06/2009 18:51

I really don`t mind and will fit in with whatever

Cadmum · 10/06/2009 20:29

Monday the 22nd might actually work for me too... DH has the day off as we are seeing friends off to the airport for a noon flight.

funwithfondue · 10/06/2009 20:37

I should be able to make the week starting 22nd, Monday would be best for me, but should be able to make any day.

Our dog is an 'Eritrean Longtail' (aka complete mix of many genes, probably including goat, who we rescued as a puppy when living in East Africa last year). He arrives here from Africa tomorrow. I feel excited, as not seen him for seven months, nervous about how he'll be around dd and worried for his condition after 7 hour flight...

Glad to see that Switzerland seems a very dog-friendly country though - hopefully he'll settle in fairly quickly.

MmeLindt · 11/06/2009 07:07

Shall we make it Monday 22nd then? Molinos might be good for those with DC as they can run around a bit in the square and fall in the fountain.

Sounds good
Count me in
What time suits everyone ?

sirmione · 11/06/2009 14:53

I'd love to come too. However have two and a half year old who tends to get a tiny bit 'fraught' by lunchtime. So definitely the earlier the better for me. Otherwise not to worry - I shall bring tranquilliser darts

cariboo · 11/06/2009 16:47

I have an appt on Mon at 12:00 in Champel but could make 1pm. Or maybe change appt?

School ends on Friday 26th for everyone so anytime after would also be good. Signal de Bougy is a wonderful place to go with dc but what about transportation? Who relies exclusively on the TPG/CFF?

cariboo · 15/06/2009 08:54

Well?

Niftyblue · 15/06/2009 11:09

I can do anytime after 11.30

funwithfondue · 15/06/2009 11:12

I'm sorry, I don't think I'll be able to make this one after all - PIL and partner arrived from Australia the day before, and just found out DH has to work for their entire first week. Not seen them for two years, so on reflection wouldn't be best form for me to disappear - unless they're sleeping off jet lag that morning!

Please organise another meet-up soon though - maybe same place and time next month, or sooner?

Enjoy!

strudelface · 15/06/2009 12:37

I can meet at anytime but would have to leave at 2.30 - so 11.30/12.00 is fine by me.

cariboo · 15/06/2009 14:06

Okay. Let's say all of us who can meet up at Molino's or even on the steps on the lake next to the escalator of the Mont-Blanc parking at any given time (1pm?) on the 22nd. That would be something to start with and then we can plan other meet-ups afterwards. It's difficult to get everyone together at the same time but let's do what we can.

Niftyblue · 16/06/2009 11:13

o.k 1.00 at the Mont Blanc escalaters

How will we know each other ?

I don`t want to be asked if I am "working girl" while I stand there

strudelface · 16/06/2009 13:15

I have no idea what these escalators are of which you speak but I will find them - I am assuming from the Mont Blanc parkgarage up to somewhere....

As to knowing each other - ermmm a secret MN handshake, MN password. Would then it not be easier to book a table somewhere under a 'name'then we just ask for that table - it would also solve the problem of others arriving earlier/later.

MmeLindt · 16/06/2009 13:40

I can make at 1pm on Monday, at the escalators. (or in Molinos, whatever is easier).

We could book a table under the name Mme Net

sirmione · 17/06/2009 21:35

1pm too late for me and the nippers, unfortunately. Hope to make the next one though.

cariboo · 18/06/2009 21:49

We'll all have a rose between our teeth?

Niftyblue · 18/06/2009 22:14

cariboo lol

cariboo · 20/06/2009 20:26

Okay, so seriously. Forget the escalators. Forget the roses between the teeth, as hilarious as that would be. We need somewhere where we can sit down, order a coffee or whatever, chat & hang around for awhile so that latecomers won't be "stood up". Place Molard is good - everyone knows it and if they don't, it's easy to find, it's outside, there are quite a few cafés/restos to have a drink. However, it's also very expensive and 1pm is peak lunch hour. If we grab a table, we'll be expected to eat lunch and personally, I can do without that expense. Shall we say Molino's anyway? I've cancelled my appointment and can be there anytime between 12 and 1pm. Alternatively, there are the steps by the lake, just across two roads (rue du Rhône) and one other. The escalators I'm referring to are the ones going down to the Parking du Mont-Blanc. There are two sets - one near Place Molard and the other close to Fusterie. Otherwise, we could meet in Zara, in the children's clothes dept. Anyway, let me know where's easiest - we've got to be quick because it's already Saturday - and I'll be there, carrying a rose from the garden, probably wilted!

strudelface · 21/06/2009 07:50

I'm still on and can be there at 12 too. However, all my roses have really prickly thorns on so I'll be the one without a rose!

I have no preference as to where we meet/go, and the escalotors by Place Molard sound fine by me as a starting point - I will check back on here tomorrow morning what the decision is.

Niftyblue · 21/06/2009 11:32

Sorry but I now can`t do tomorrow
I was really looking forward to it

Please count me in next time

MmeLindt you have my e-mail address,so please let me know if you all go out again

Have a good time
