I brought things back and forth betwen uk and us for years and my dh brings me stuff now too. I have never had anyone question my drugs (I take vicodin or co-codamol) for migraines so that was definitely one of the ones being brought over. I have brought asprin with codeine for friends in US as well.
Meat however is a different matter. You cannot bring any meat products from the uk to the usa. It used to be just uncooked or salamis weren't allowed, but now it's cooked too (mad cow and all that). I inquired specifically because friends were going to send some curried goat over with dh, but customs said don't bother (guess there's some new mad goat disease going round??). Also fruit and veg is really taken seriously in some states and particularly here in California. I once took some of the vacuum packed veg from the plane (grapes I think) for the kids to eat while we were waiting for our suitcases and then they didn't eat it and I only just remembered as we were walking out and handed it to customs and they were really cross with mean and searched all my luggage looking for all the other contraband vacuum packed round things masquerading as fruit....

The Best Recipe series are the best for cookie recipies. Try this one for starting. They tell you what you need to do to get them the way you like them ....ie crunchy or chewy.

Hello all, sorry, but I haven't been up too late recently to be around when you are posting. Also, haven't much to tell since I have spent quite a bit of time in bed groaning recently as chemo has made me quite sick and also last week I had a pounding headache that lasted three days.

Sounds as if some of you haven't been faring much better than me. Califrau, what a nightmare for you. You need a space suit with gas mask attached.

At least I felt a little better this weekend which has been a glorious 75 degrees so far and we were able to go out yesterday and then came home and had our first BBQ this year.

I see a lot of you are having more snow. Do you think we should arrange a meet-up at my place? Would anyone come?

UnderRated · 09/03/2008 17:35

Anorak, you need to be careful saying things like that, otherwise you'll have a bunch of us waiting on your doorstep. Well, me, at least.

Are any of you potty training whizzes? I think I missed the window and it's sooooo hard to be motivated when DS has 3 accidents a day (when he used to have none)

I was about to report my fruit & veg intake today but realised this is the wrong thread. I shall report on the weather instead: snow

lullabyloo · 09/03/2008 17:49

JABBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
hello lovely one

UnderRated · 09/03/2008 17:55

Lully, I am already confused about which thread I am posting on - having you show up here is not helping

lullabyloo · 09/03/2008 18:00

Sorry
Nice to see you too...how are the horrid noisy neighbours?

jabberwocky · 09/03/2008 22:46

Lully!!! You must be psychic, I was thinking of you the other day. I must just sit down and write you a long email so we can get caught up

lullabyloo · 10/03/2008 11:08

[grin ]Have been thinking of you lots too

lullabyloo · 10/03/2008 11:08

hmmmm

anorak · 10/03/2008 15:44

Dunno what's to do but it should be lovely weather down there! Lots of brownie points for Caliherr then!

mananny · 10/03/2008 19:30

Hello everyone

Potty training UR.... I am starting that with the twins in April. The parents are off to Grand Cayman for a week and I am going to at least get one of the little buggers dry by the time they get back!!!! they are 2.7 and know when they are weeing, pooping and often have a wee on the potty before the bath so I am optimistic.

The zoo in San Diego is fabulous, I've heard.

I need to go back and have a read on this thread as I made a mate in VT who I pointed this way a couple of weeks back. She's a Brit nanny and a mum and is having a tough time of it where she lives.

UnderRated · 10/03/2008 19:35

Anorak, when I know what is going to happen with my life over the next few months, I'll be first in line!

San Diego - never been but my ex loves it. From what he said, I would suggest:

Pelicans
Wild Animal Park/ Zoo
Sea World

I WANT A HOLIDAY

UnderRated · 10/03/2008 19:42

Hi Mananny

Send your friend this way. I did see someone from VT on MN recently but am not sure where.

anorak · 10/03/2008 19:46

I seriously mean it about having people here.

I'm alone for 60 hours a week, ill a lot of the time, and have exactly no friends in Bermuda. I'm bored, fed up and lonely.

mananny · 10/03/2008 19:48

I just found her posts earlier on this thread. Her parents the drug dealers hahahahahahaha.....

I am giddy as I had a whole long weekend off work, a joy LOL. But I have got so much studying to do it's crazy. Midterms are the week after next.

I think I am crazy. I have absolutely no time for anything any more!!!!!!!!!!

mananny · 10/03/2008 19:50

Anorak if I had the damn reentry visa I would be on the next plane LOL. The only problem with doing a change of status in the US is that I am now stuck here til I can get enough time to go back to London to get the reentry visa in my passport.

dooneygirl · 10/03/2008 19:52

Ha ha ha ha, Cali. DH just booked us 4 days in San Diego last night. We're going the end of April. We're going to do Legoland/Sea World/Zoo. The zoo really is something to see, and nothing like any we've ever been to. And we're big zoo and aquarium geeks, and have always gone to the local zoos and aquariums even without kids. My birthday's in May, too, but we'll be back before then. We wanted to do a trip the kids would really love, but save the almighty Disney for when Caitlin's a few years older and can remember. Check out getting a Go San Diego card if you are going to many of the attractions on there. It saves money if you are. Just in case you haven't heard of it. If you have, sorry.

UR, if you're behind on potty training, I can only imagine where we are. Caitlin is nowhere near being remotely close to being trained in any way. I've told her she needs to get it together before she can start school, and she looks mildly concerned, but doesn't do anything to help the cause, I'm afraid. Bribery isn't even working.

dooneygirl · 10/03/2008 19:55

Don't tempt me Anorak. Am going to get the kids passports, and mine renewed. I've also taken care of 3 people who have had chemo, so I've got experience with that, also.

Why shouldn't I tempt you dooney?

Tell Colin I have my own pool.

I'm so fed up on my own I could just cry.
