Anorak, I know what it's like to be alone for long periods of time. It's not much fun and it can make the days very very long. By the end of the month I will have a better idea of what I can/ can't do. I have a 'legal situation' and things are awkward atm but when they are resolved I will happily keep you company. And if you fancy a trip to Chicago, you'd be very welcome here any time. I know you probably can't go anywhere at the moment but when you can, I'm here

If the Sand Diego Card is anything like the CHicago Card, it'll be well worth getting.

I don't think we are behind on potty training as such, I'm just frustrated that we seem to have regressed a bit. It doesn't help that ex complains if I send DS to him in underwear yet complains when he is in pull-ups. I am not really sure what I am meant to do.

Mananny, I feel your pain re visas. I got my renewal last week (yay!) so am legal until July. No idea what happens after that [panic]

Oh SittingBull, how are you?

mananny · 10/03/2008 20:42

Yay for your renewal UR But what a pain in the whatsits it is having to go through all this when every day I see illegals striding around like they own the place!!! Grrrrr. Makes me cross. In order to stay here I am training to be pediatric nurse, as I love it here and I want to slide my career into one which will give me benefits, like shorter working hours and helath insurance. I've always wanted to become a nurse so am doing it here as opposed to the UK as I am more likely to get a job here than there. Plus the pay is better here.

Everyone's on so early today.

Anorak, Colin wouldn't need any convincing. DH on the other hand . . . .

How are you Sitting Bull? I'm all ears about the potty training, too, although I just did it a year and a half ago, it is so much more difficult this time around. I thought the boys were supposed to be the difficult ones and girls were much easier.

He's 2.6, SB. He used to take pride in telling me he needed to use the toilet but now only does so occasionally. We have really good days but sometimes has 3 accidents a day and I think he is just not ready anymore. But how can he have been good for a while and not get it anymore?

I do all the cheering and praise and ignore the accidents but when it is the 3rd time and I asked him if he needed a wee and he said no, I feel myself getting a little

mananny · 10/03/2008 20:47

I think my twins will be interesting to train. She already gets it whereas he is more interested in playing with his winky. (He cracks me up, as he says good morning to his winky at the first diaper change of the day and goodnight to it after his bath!!!!!!!!!)

I am hoping peer pressure will help him along, as anything she can do he can do better LOL.

He absolutely worships his winky, to the point that she now feels left out at bathtime LOL. She always says "Boys have winkys, not girls." with such a look of disappointment on her face! I don't know what we will call her parts as she has shown no interest in her own body yet! However, she does pee on the potty and then, with a huge grin on her face, say "Look at all that yellow!"

I find it amazing how their vocab skills just jump overnight. Even though I've been nannying for a decade (aaaagggghhhh) it is so amazing to see a toddler develop their communication skills and discover their own voice. It's just a shame that as soon as they master that particular skill we spend the rest of their childhood telling them to shut up hahahahaha...

UnderRated · 10/03/2008 21:37

Oh no SB, how horrible. Sorry things haven't gone smoothly. I was wondering if you'd had the op yet but didn't expect to hear you'd needed another

Don't get me started on poo. Last week DS was insisting on only doing it in his pull-up and then 'helpfully' removed the pull-up and slid across the bed leaving an undescribable trail behind him Twice.

dooneygirl · 11/03/2008 02:48

Sounds horrible, SB. Hope you have no more complications.

Wouldn't you know it, she's asked me to go potty in the big girl potty twice tonight. She's been wet all the rest of the day, though. I'm not to worried about it, but DH insists she should be potty trained by now. I think he forgets that we were biting our nails up until a few days before Colin's 3rd birthday that he'd be trained in time to go to school.

jabberwocky · 11/03/2008 03:16

Anorak, I would love to come visit but only if I could figure out a way to leave the boys (that includes dh) behind Seriously, I hope you can get someone to keep you company. We're all here for you in cyberspace but I know it's that actual presence that is so nice when you feel ill.

SB, I had no idea things were going like this for you. I do hope this last op was successful.

San Diego is quite nice. Don't forget to get a fish taco while you're there! It's also close to La Jolla which is charming.

UnderRated · 11/03/2008 03:16

I think it is other people's expectations that makes me fret about potty training. I actually don't care. I mean, he will learn to use the toilet at some point. Presumably before he goes to school.

I'm watching The Business of Being Born. I knew what it was about and knew the statistics but I can't help but feel shocked at the way things are done over here.

They just showed a clip of Catherine Zeta Jones' cleavage when she was pregnant. I love her

jabberwocky · 11/03/2008 03:22

Okay, I'll share my potty training story with you. Ds1 was potty trained over the summer just before he turned 3. I was quite pleased b/c that meant he would have several months out of diapers before ds2 was born. He was totally trained. I would hear his little feet patter to the potty at night and feel so proud.

Cue ds2's birth...

Major regression. He also started having constipation problems to the point that he developed not one but two fecal impactions. We are about 1 year from his first diagnosis and he has been on a stool softener for 6 months to do "colon rehabilitation". I am now paying a play therapist $100/hour twice a month to get him to "let go of his control issues" that are affecting his output - so to speak. He is now 4 1/2 and we have been back in regular underwear for about 3 weeks with only 1 or 2 accidents.

So, give yourself a break. Just let it happen and be glad you don't have my potty training record

UnderRated · 11/03/2008 03:23

Ooo, we could have a girly meet-up in Bermuda

UnderRated · 11/03/2008 03:36

Thanks Jabberwocky - stories like yours remind me to not worry about it. Your poor DS1 - I hope things settle down soon. poor lad

dooneygirl · 11/03/2008 03:49

Now that is a meet up I'm all for. Especially if there is a blender anywhere around.

Thanks Jabberwocky. I hate the fact they have to be potty trained before they can go to preschool.

I wish UR's and Jabberwocky's kids were here. Then my 2 would have someone their exact age to play with. Not that they don't, already, I'm just not in love with who they've got.

dooneygirl · 11/03/2008 03:52

DH just told me to go visit, so count me in.

jabberwocky · 11/03/2008 12:27

Oh, wow, that would be so fun!

I wish we were near you, too dooney. My kids don't have many playmates here. 'course, that's one of the reasons we're moving.

Maybe after we're settled in I can talk to dh about Bermuda

UnderRated · 11/03/2008 13:57

We have a few playmates, one of whom is not very nice to DS and most of my friends only ever discuss money, maids, toddler classes, private preschools (and their cost), how much money they earn, sleep schedules, money, who's child is better than who's and money. It gets rather tedious. So I wish you were all closer too (assuming you are able to discuss things other than the ones I mentioned)
