No, I do like recipes, DG. As well as lists We made Oatmeal Raisin cookies today but they are sort of cakey. I can't find my recipe for really good chewy cookies so am rather annoyed.

Sorry your boys are ill, Califrau - sending get well soon vibes your way.

Do you all do Mother's day on the British weekend or the US one?

dooneygirl · 28/02/2008 02:43

Commiserations, Cali. My 2 are sick again also. And I can tell you who it was, too. There was a mom at the B-day party we went to on Thurs. who brought a sick girl. She insisted that she didn't have anything contagious, which always elicits a from me. Caitlin started getting sick Sunday, and the person who gave the party said every single child who was at the party is now sick. I wish they could sleep, but they both have awful coughs that nothing seems to quiet.

UnderRated · 28/02/2008 02:44

Blueskies, I'd sneak it in. As long as you don't have tons (just enough for 'personal use') I think it is fine. As long as your parents don't go through customs looking like they're going to sell it, I think its ok.

Where are you?

UnderRated · 28/02/2008 02:47

Oh no - you're kids are sick too Dooney

dooneygirl · 28/02/2008 02:47

Take a read at this blueskywhitesnow

blueskieswhitesnow · 28/02/2008 02:53

Thanks for that dooneygirl. Yikes it looks pretty risky after all, maybe I should tell them not to bother? I don't want them to get a huge fine or anything if they get found out! I mean the likelihood is slim, but the risk is still there. I'm in deepest darkest VT, and am the local celeb as I'm a Brit. Don't really need the town gossiping about my parents getting arrested for importing drugs LOL

Blueskies, I am sure it will be ok. Maybe get them to bring a small box. In the highly unlikely event they get stopped and questioned about it, they can just say, "Oh I need it for X reason. I didn't know you weren't allowed it." and the customs guy will just let them through anyway. Worst case scenario, they'd get it taken away. My Irish friend manages to bring suitcases full of sausages and bacon and never gets stopped. I in the other hand, always get sniffed by the dogs because I have chocolate digestives in my case

My friend began packing a big bag to return to the UK but found lumpy thing stuffed in the zipped pocket at the front. When he opened the pocket he found a Greggs Sausage roll, black but perfectly formed and quite identifiable. It had been there for over 6 months

alipiggie · 28/02/2008 03:42

Calpol gets here - I get it sent in Jiffy bags . Boak at the sausage roll. Expat, we have to meet up if you're coming anyway near me. I'll have room if you want to come and visit, might be air mattresses but heck. View of the Flatirons from the bedroom. Hi everyone, I'm back online again yahoooo. Settled in new house and all unpacked. So proud of myself. Now organizing the House Warming party. Eldest ds was presented with a certificate for his hard work in school assembly this week. I cried when he gave it too me. Just made me realize that I'd made the right choice to stay and fight for the Green Card. The certificate has pride of place on the wall. Started the internet dating game - sigh. But heck found a few nice men to talk to, so that's something and also had a night out to see Martin Sexton. Go and see him - he's brilliant. Hope everyone's okay, sorry to hear little ones are sick everywhere. Missed chatting.

UnderRated · 28/02/2008 04:11

Why do we need Calpol sending? Is it better/ different to anything you can get over here? DS has always had infant Tylenol.

I remember drinking calpol from the bottle when I was old enough to raid the medicine cabinet. I would like to think I am over that now but am sure it would be very tempting. Is its still pink and thick and delicious? Like Banana Amoxycillin? And Pink Penicillin?

dooneygirl · 28/02/2008 04:22

No, I've been a neglectful parent today. Caitlin was up all night coughing, and I"m not sure if I got any sleep or not, so my 2 spent quite a few hours of the day in front of th e TV, while I spaced out looking at the wall.

Sorry, but my fingers keep hitting the wrong keys, and i don't want to go back and correct my typos.

jabberwocky · 29/02/2008 16:52

aww, dooney, I hope they get to feeling better today. FWIW, when I'm sick all I want to do is space out in front of the TV so you're actually being a great mom

Lol, cali, I always knew Germans were anal retentive

dooneygirl · 01/03/2008 02:46

Thanks, Jabberwocky. They aren't any better today. Colin isn't very bad, but she's still coughing like she's got whooping cough all day long. DH took care of her last night, and I got sent to sleep in her room with the door closed and earplugs, so I'm much better. My poor girl doesn't get much sleep, and I'm really surprised how well she's coping with it. Not any meltdowns at all.

DH's aunt was supposed to come out and stay with us Thurs, but was too sick, and in-laws were supposed to come tonight, but now they're too sick. We were supposed to meet some friends for dinner tomorrow, but they called to pull out because their girls are sick. Colin was one of 5 (out of 12) at his pre-school out today. See a pattern?

Oh, and I would just like to let you know that if I lived in Ohio, my oven would not be dinner party worthy. I'm really careful about cooking and avoiding spills, but got sloppy being so tired and have had 3 things spill the past 4 days. So it looks like I will have to make a decision about do I want my house to stink, or actually have to clean my oven myself. Anyone want to tell me what to do?
