We barbecued today!!!!!!!!!!

Good to see you around on the site today, OR.

I found me a dress that actually fits!!!! I don't love it, but I really like it. It has some elastic hidden in the back and has a tie, so it actually fits. I know I shouldn't be so excited, but they never fit me.

Wow. It hit the mid-50's, and we kinda flipped out and started the barbecue.

It is almost impossible for me to find one that fits. I'm 3 sizes bigger on top than the bottom, so I'm either all bunched up on top, or look like I'm wearing a tent. Plus, it was on sale and I still could get it with my gift cards I got for X-mas.

OverRated · 10/02/2008 03:32

Hello

Have had a tricky week so haven't been around much. I had to wait for someone to post on this thread so it popped back into Active Convos.

Sorry you're having a bad time, sittingbull. Lovely to hear about your bbq and dress, Dooneygirl. Isn't it nice to find clothes that fit?

Anyone seen Anorak, recently?

She was being lovely and helping out someone in trouble on another thread today.

DH got a pair of Armani sunglasses today, and he looks incredibly hot. He was so funny, he picked them up and wanted to know if they were a good brand. They were from spring of 2003, so quite reasonably priced, but he thought they were stupidly expensive (they were $25, silly man). Gotta love Nordstrom Rack.

OverRated · 10/02/2008 04:13

lol Dooneygirl - am glad you have such a hot DH. What a bargain!

OP posts:
dooneygirl · 10/02/2008 04:22

Nah, I don't have a hot DH, he just has a hot pair of sunglasses.

(he's looking over my shoulder as I type )

DK you are not being mean. Dance and gymnastics is unbelievably expensive here - wait til the weekend competition trips start. I have a neighbour who delivers pizza to pay for it all.

Hi OverRated and everyone else!

Sorry that there seems to be a lot of stress and overloaded plates going round

I've been correlating my first chemotherapy fortnight so that I can plan for the forthcoming 3 more before the drugs change. My DS has a school project for the forthcoming (1/2 term week) to visit a place of interest in at least 6 of the 9 parishes of Bermuda and have a photo of himself from there - he then has to make a poster of it with the photo plus a paragraph about each place, and give a presentation about it in school. He's 7 by the way.

So we've rushed all over the place over the weekend and have done 5 of the things. Because I know that Monday I have to go to the hospital for a blood test, Tues I have to go and have chemotherapy, so I have Weds-Sun most likely feeling like shit to finish his project with him at home.

This involves finding out how my brand new camera uploads to the computer (old camera destroyed by teenage DD borrowing without asking and had to buy a new one last week, ($300) and hoping new printer ($100) works ok (old one went tits up in transit when we moved from uk).

But have had very nice day first going round nature reserve with DS and DH (one of his places of interest) then we got home and the tit lady finally arrived with my new tit. Which I put on immediately and wore all day how much better than a stupid vaguely tit-shaped cushion that is I can only promise you. Then DD came home to look after DS and I went out with DH for a long and leisurely lunch with lots of wine and fab sea views. Still coming down from a cloud of wine (not used to it any more).

Ah, I was just overwhelmed, Califrau. That's life, I suppose but sometimes it all gets a bit much. Complicated situation but I'll sort myself out.

Anorak, your DS's project sounds rather involved but must be a good way to see the Island? I have no idea how big Bermuda is but am imagining it is rather small. Am glad you felt like having wine again though! Best of luck for the chemo this week. I know it's not pleasant at all. And I'm glad to hear your new nork arrived and seems to be doing the job (as it were)

Do any of you know about shape/ Sacred Harp singing?

OP posts:
dodgykeeper · 11/02/2008 15:33

Sorry no idea about the singing thing - sounds interesting though.
Lol at anoraks tit lady; I have a wonderful mental image of someone driving around delivering tits with the piramid thing on top of their car like our pizza guy . You have such a positive attitude.
My dd is also 7 and I was rather taken aback by the projects too. In our first week here we had to research a patriotic landmark, write a report and then make a HAT featuring said landmark. I taught back home and I got complaints when I asked the class to find out where the library, hospital, post office and police station were. Parents said it was too involved and they didnt have time.
Re photos, have you all heard of Picasa2? It is free to download from google and it is great for editing and sorting photos but best of all it lets you send loads of photos by email really quickly instead of sending 4 or 5 very slowly as attachments. I love it because I am one of those anoying people who appear to have a camera lens for a face most of the time.
Dooney - IKWYM about dresses; Im the same. I loved being pregnant because I looked more balanced. Shirts are a problem too - either popping open or look like Ive nicked it from dh. I thought Id found the perfect dress last summer but my holiday photos beg to differ .

lol at the tit lady and her pizza-style delivery

I always walk around with my camera, dodgykeeper. I think people find it rather annoying but they do often say, "Oh, OverRated'll have a picture of that" or complain that they have no photos of their DC but I have tons! Am sorry about the perfect dress last summer. But it did make me laugh. I have a fatface one and I am really not convinced about it. And it's too bloody cold to be thinking about it atm.

Shape note singing was interesting - Apparently it's an American Tradition, mainly from Georgia and Alabama. Instead of using the doh-re-mi scale, they use an older version - fa, sol, la, fa, so, la, mi, fa and each has a different symbol. It's meant to aid in sight reading but it was very confusing. Anyway, they sing sacred choral music in 4 parts and it was wonderful. They take anyone, so the fact that I haven't sung properly for donkeys years didn't matter Nothing to do with harps, I'm afraid.

Dodgykeeper & chocchip, I have just been offered a night in Dayton this weekend (with a group of complete strangers) - is this a good idea? I don't even know how far it is from Chicago.

Why the name change? Should I understand it?

Where is dooneygirl these days?

Will look for another link...

Hmm, hard to find any with decent sounding recordings. Here is an NPR article but it's quite long. I think it is one of those things that sounds better when you are participating - someone said it is 'participating' music rather than 'listening' music and I think they are probably right!

The sight reading is really hard. Give me 'real' notes any
