Hi Guys

Have started us a new thread, hope you don't mind. With my dinosaur it takes me forever to scroll down to the bottom to post! (Don't ask)

Papillon - I am so happy for you. I hope things work out for you all. I am monitoring (auditing) drug trials atm (not for long I hope!!) Luckily Hastings HC is a smooth centre, the staff lovely and of course a great place to visit so it makes the trip worth while. Last time it was too hard to organise the boys for an overnight trip so I caught the first plane out, the last plane back and spent all day in a room with no windows going cross eyed counting drugs and checking records while the sun shone outside. NOw DH is practised in teh art of child care I will stay at least 1 night and hopfully see more than 4 walls.

ssshakethechi - you just have to come and join the ever growing band of NZ mumsnetters, we are growing by the day.

Hi, sorry to gatecrash but I was wondering if anyone can give any advice on moving to Christchurch.Nicest areas to live, good schools etc.

tia

kjaysmum · 16/07/2007 23:00

Hi chocolateaddict, no problem for the gatecrash, only the main chatters on this thread all live in the north island. There are quite a few Christchurch mums on here who can no doubt give you advice, but you're more likely to get hold of them if you put your post on the main 'living overseas' thread. Goodluck

kjaysmum · 16/07/2007 23:03

Oh bummer loosing the message, I just hate that!!!!look forward to hearing from you when the circumstances are less demanding!!
EEk to your dog experiences Sibble, how about a goose

Papillon · 17/07/2007 02:04

Charming weather, leaking roof, damp house... loving it! Up at parents trying to dry out! There have been heavy rain warnings and schools being evacuated quite exciting.

Sibble, hope the insurance procedure is not too arduous. My sister recently had to claim for house theft and the insurance company sent her a camera that was completely empty inside, no lenses, no camera basically just shell! Bummer you don't like dogs, how about a dog mega phone that triggers if someone enters the house without a key! I have been using our pot belly to cook on last few days, which is lovely, no power for two days did you eat out alot??

KJM I am going to look through my book shelf to see if there are any deep meaningful books, besides bridget jones diary

sibble · 17/07/2007 06:00

hey paps, heard about your weather, also heard this afternoon that the storms have turned around and are heading back towards Auckland, should be here by Friday, so off to the shops tomorrow to stock up on more batteries, candles, bottled water and a battery radio this time. Sitting in the car waiting for the midday news etc. might have been funny for the kids but not too funny here .

we did eat out the first night, but lucklily I have a gas bottle run hob, so we ate alot of things that could be cooked there! I did miss my toast in the morning though.

btw, bridget jones' diary - add that to one of my favourite list - esp the movie, that was my first night out after having ds1 - to see the movie with a girlfriend. was having a ball until she told me I used to be bridget jones' now I'd turned into the 'sad married one' or not sure

OP posts:
kjaysmum · 17/07/2007 07:52

ooh weather sounds terrible, not what you need with your place at the minute eh Paps. Sibble, you saying it was heading back up to Auckland made me think, yep must charge the torch batteries and fill up the water containers, you never know when it's going to do a Uturn and high tale it down here!!
Can't believe you two... obviously highly intelligent, well read, spiritual women can't come with anything better than Bridget Jone's Diary, come now ladies

Papillon · 17/07/2007 20:39

Have both Bridget Jones books and the films Always good to have a laugh and she is introspective in her own devout way Promise to think further upon bookish matters...

Think there is a moat developing at parents place, trapped inside with four children and my sister - might have to escape to the spa pool with an umbrella!

Will have to ring dh in a moment to see if he survived the night near waves and pouring skies.

Glad to hear you are both getting prepared for more of this terminal weather. We have gas here at parents so can eat and keep warm.

kjaysmum · 18/07/2007 20:29

funny old country this, we're still in clear skys down here in Kapiti, can't believe you've been in such dismal weather really, weird isn't it.
Only 14 sleeps till we're off now, still searching for activities for the plane which won't take up too much room.

Papillon · 19/07/2007 06:09

There has been a thing on the radio for DIY disasters atm! Its quite a state really so really good to be at mum and dads

not long till you leave KJM !!

Went to the hairdressers yesterday with my sister which was abit lush and enjoyable.

So have you gone to the bookshop in wgtn for a good read while away?

Hope you are not having storms Sibble, we are very still but lots of rain so its not moving and we are full of leaks

kjaysmum · 19/07/2007 07:57

No haven't made it down to the shop yet, shall go next week. Can't do browsing at Dps firm cause there's just too many books, takes too long!
I'm sending lots of 'go away rain' vibes up to you, I just keep thinking of that wall you're going to replace and cringing! talk about one extreme to the other, it was drought weather when I came to visit you.
So did you get your hair cut much when you went to the hairdressers? I have an appointment next week am thinking short and red, maybe.

Papillon · 19/07/2007 23:21

More vibes please, rain is really steady today and our house needs to be squeezed to extract all the rain! dear me.

dd is really enjoying morning kindy

how u doing?

sibble · 20/07/2007 02:58

oh paps, leaky roof with all the rain - not good. Positive vibes coming from here too (as long as it doesn;t come back up here). We heard it was heading back for the weekend so went to buy a supply of candles, not 1 left in the warehouse. Had to go to 3 to find any!!! At the moment though, the past 2 days have been beautiful, clear blue skies, warm etc. hard to imagine we were sitting by candlelight only a week ago.

kjm, I am jealous of you trip home, this will be the first year I havn't gone home, partly too expensive and partly can't face the trip with ds2. next year is seeming a long way off at the moment. How long are you going for?

OP posts:
kjaysmum · 20/07/2007 07:38

Yes Sibble the visit home will be lovely, we're going for six weeks, though I must admit I'm feeling a bit low on energy at the moment so am finding the prospect of the journey a bit daunting. Both Ds and I are well travelled though so I'm sure we'll be fine once we get started and I saw an acupuncturist today to try and help me with my energy levels.
Hope you're getting some of those blue skies too Paps.

Papillon · 21/07/2007 21:35

How did the acupuncturist go KJM? I have been reading about my astro forecast at this place. astro.com sees I am going through a regenerative time, perhaps you too are regenerating, they say to me that I should limit my scope and just focus within what I can handle rather than spread my jam too thin

We had sunshine yesterday and celebrated it with me and the kids going for a walk in the orchard. Discovered a small lake and what do you know, next minute both kids are naked and folicking. It was quite warm and the water shallow, they had a ball. And I snuggled up in the pram and enjoyed watching them

Rains back again today though, DH is feeing very low about our house, basically its at the other end of the spectrum from what he is accustomed to or likes to imagine, being very designer minded. Pity he choose a hippie like me to hang out with!

kjaysmum · 22/07/2007 05:07

glad to hear the sun shone for you, shame it didn't stick around for longer though. I can imagine how your Dh must be feeling with the DIY bach project, against all those elements, enough to put the most keen DIYer off! Hope you folks can hold it together until the weather picks up, it must be a far easier job to tackle in the summer.
The acupuncturist was good. He said pretty much what you just did! He is worried about my energy levels being so low and Ds and I off on our travels, so he's working on this for now and then we shall see how I am doing after my trip, one step at a time, not an easy trip this healing one, but I'm very lucky to have the universe helping me along!

sibble · 24/07/2007 06:02

hi kjm, hope the acupuncture is having some effect. you really need your energy levels up before you head off on long haul - are you flying direct? I have been thinking about you and consulting my little books! I sometimes use crystals to help when I do reiki on somebody regularly and am treating a particular condition - not sure if this is up your street or not but if it is - smokey quartz is recommended for both fertility, energy and restoring mental health. sorry if am butting in here, but hope it might help.....

paps, hope you're drying out down there. they have closed the trial early I am working on so looks like I may be back sooner than I thought. Would be good to catch up for a few wines this time, if you want.....

In the meantime am off to Wellington Thursday for day (work again), fingers crossed for me for a smooth flight.

OP posts:
kjaysmum · 24/07/2007 08:50

No definately not butting in Sibble, I very much appreciate your input and I'm going to Wellington this week so I shall visit the crystal shop while I'm there, it would be comforting to be carrying a recommended crystal with me on my travels, thankyou. I'm actually in Wellington on Thursday too, but am on very limited time as MIL is minding Ds first thing whilst I get some travel essentuals. I would love to have suggested meeting up for a quick coffee but then I have Ds in quarantine due to the chicken pox going around, we're not doing public places! I sound so paranoid the thought of chicken pox postponing my trip is just too much! I do hope though, one day if you're coming down here and have time we could meet up for a coffee as I would really like to meet you.
I have booked two more visits to the acupuncturist before I leave as it does seem to be helping me a great deal.

sibble · 24/07/2007 20:20

no probs kjm, would be good to catch up another time, I will be down again in 3 months. My schedule is a bit tight this time too, but next time I can book a slightly later flight if I know I'm doing coffee during the day.

OP posts:
kjaysmum · 26/07/2007 10:49

Hi, hope you had a good flight Sibble, I picked up a lovely piece of smokey quartz today, which I shall be carrying with me on my travels.
Had a really top result today, as my specialist from the hospital actually returned my call, (I have active colitis) he just clarified a few things for me regarding my medication, it is a real weight off my mind to have spoken with him. He was very sympathetic about our loss, which helps somehow, to be honest fertility is now the furthest thing from my mind, I'm flaring up (probably a result of the hormones) and I just want to concentrate on getting well for myself and my lovely Dp and Ds. Sorry to just blurb all this out here but it helps somehow....it's been such a tough few weeks

Papillon · 27/07/2007 09:33

Good to hear you have had some direction from the specialist. Hope things get more sorted for you and that the crystal connects to you. Been thinking of you been quite busy and lots of talking and navigation with DH. It comes better for him being more open and seeing where issues lie.

Waiting for insulation company to come back with dates from the subsidy deal we have from govt., then can re-roof which urgently needs doing.

Would like to meet up for a wine or two Sibble next time you down

sibble · 28/07/2007 02:06

kjm, glad you found a crystal you liked, here's hoping it does something for you. colitis is not nice I know, my mum has it too, although thankfully not too bad. hormones and stress not a good combination to flare things up... will you be looked after/spoilt when you get back to the UK? - I hope so.

Wellington, was great, clear blue skies, smooth flight - screamed during landing as we dropped a few feet to the amusement of all the businessmen around me - was told on exit it was the smoothest landing somebody had ever had here's looking forward to next time The only downside was the flight out was delayed so I spent all day cooped up in an office and didn't get to venture out, except to grab a sandwich. Will plan to spent some more time next time and have a look around.

Paps, glad to here things are progressing with your roof. It's still beautiful clear blue skies here, feels like spring.

DS1 is going to a birthday party this afternoon and is a bit hyper. dh is luckily having ds2 so I don't have to throw on the togs and embarrass myself infront of the other mums have a car ull of kids to ferry though so hope they don't have alot of c* food, hyper kids on the journey back is not pleasant. anyway off to wrap pressie. got a great toy in the sales, build a wooden car, attach batteries to it works - apparantly!

OP posts:
kjaysmum · 28/07/2007 05:48

Great to hear you can get some help with your roof,Paps, such an integral part of your home! Sounds like your having some good communication with you Dh, is so important for you all.
I am feeling excited now, properly, guess those energy levels must be going up again, swings and roundabouts.
Lol at you screaming coming into wellington, Sibble. I have a flight in September into Lisbon in Portugal, it's a tricky airport for landings as it's right in the city and has a wind tunnel which comes up the valley, so notorious is it that the Portugese usually clap on landing

sibble · 28/07/2007 20:15

kjm, glad your energy levels on the rise, I would be excited to be going home too. Next year!

ds1 had a great time at the pool party yesterday, I found it quite stressful though, I hadn't thought before hand when I said I would take 2 other children about having to watch 3 hyper 7 year olds in water. It was a nightmare. I was also a bit and that as well as the chips and nuggets (not my ideal but not too bad) there was heaps of lollies and coke to drink. ds is not allowed coke but as I knew I was going to have to say no to the cake (he has bad food allergies) I felt terrible saying no to the coke too, but did, he cried all the other mothers looked at me . he took 2 defiant sips then thought better of it and left it, I had a bottle of water in my bag so he had water and I felt mean, he was sad. not sure if I over reacted but I just don't think 7 years olds need coke, not even the real stuff but the cheap cr* in the budget bottles which suprisingly even states on the front 'contains caffeine' let alone all the other cr* inside. ANyway rant over, still feel bad .

OP posts:
Papillon · 29/07/2007 20:54

Have never like coke Sibble and would not give it to any child. Don't even provide it for adults!

dd seems to still be enjoying kindy, ds loves the 30 or so we spend there, he interacts well with the older children.

Yes not long now KJM till you leave, hopefully you catch an Indian summer there and that the rains are all done with.

kjaysmum · 30/07/2007 21:34

I can imagine your Dd enjoying daycare, she's a sociable little love. I was looking at the photos of Dp's birthday party last night, we really must all get together when I get back. That photo of your Dd and our Ds holding hands is so special, Maybe I should post in on member profiles?

Pool party sounds like a nightmare to me, sorry but coke+7 year olds=, coke+7year olds+swimming pool=downright scary!!Well done for sticking by what you believe to be right, I 100% agree with you. I do understand it's a fine line between spoiling their fun and spoiling them though.

By the way, Paps and Sibble, I really appreciate all you supportive words, thankyou.

Ok back to my packing
