Good for you KJ!!

Enjoy ... and keep those beaches warm for us

YuletidePaps · 19/12/2006 07:50

Lovely to hear the sun has come out for more than 5 minutes!! Must be have been abit tortuous being so close to the beach but unable to go there.

Fingers crossed the festival organisers are cool with Bertha being on site I am really looking forwards to it!

Never been to Kapiti Island, it would be beautiful - shall we leave all the kids with your dp for the day and take off there

sibble · 19/12/2006 18:18

popping in to this post to say hi. Living just south of Auckland. My kiwi dh imported me!! What are you all up to for Christmas? Was planning on a quiet day by the pool but weather has turned to custard so we'll see. Mind you with Auckland weather anything could happen on the day.

YuletidePaps · 19/12/2006 18:33

Hi Sibble, nice to hear from you How are your two boys?

We are celebrating xmas eve with family, and will hang out with friends on the other days. Still not very into Xmas over here - but am trying to be more festive this year, now dd is 3 and all stoked about seeing Santa tomorrow I even decorated a house plant as the a.k. Xmas Tree!

sibble · 19/12/2006 22:43

Hi Paps

Just back on mumsnet after a looooooooooong break. Good to chat with you again. Boys are good and so excited about christmas. DS2 (now 2) keeps asking every santa we see 'you come my house?' so cute.

Still can't get used to the 'warmer', (jacket and jeans back on today having been sunning around the pool at the weekend so can hardly say warm) christmas' so took DS2 to snowplanet last week for a spot of sleighing and skiing etc. Beautiful day outside, friends thought I was mad, but saw santa and it felt much more christmasy.

kjaylovessantamum · 20/12/2006 07:31

Hi All,
No news on Bertha yet Paps but can't see it being a problem, or course we shall clear it with them, but we were thinking to leave our car in the carparking and take you folks and Bertha in for the stall.
I have been invited to a solstice celebration on the beach on friday, would be great as I can't quite get my head around celebrating summer solstice in December, I hear we may have a southerly on the way though so may feel like winter solstice after all, too close to that darn south pole!
Nice to meet you Sibble, so to speak . I'm an recent import meself so am looking forward to a christmas day with my Kiwi inlaws, Ds is going to get spoilt rotten!

MrsJohnCuSackFullOfPresents · 20/12/2006 07:41

ha! Warmer!
In Christchurch is has now been absolutely pissing it down for about 5/6 hours now - really practically torrential. My parents have just returned from the UK and they are not impressed.
sounds like you are all much better off up there in the NI. Solstice on the beach sounds great, but frankly here it could easilt be the winter one. I'm almost beginning to feel Christmassy!

wethreebobkings · 20/12/2006 08:34

This weather is absolutely vile isn't it? It's my birthday tomorrow - so lets hope it all blows out by then. have even arranged to meet MIL for lunch - so it's affected me very badly.

MrsJohnCuSackFullOfPresents · 20/12/2006 09:08

Happy Birthday for tomorrow! hope you have fun...
yes isn't it grim - I thought our kitchen roof was going to take off earlier. It just KEPT on raining, they said rain was coming, not a flipping monsoon

wow Annie 1998 thats flipping ages!! Have a great Christmas

wind is an elemental part of NZ, KJM they used to have ropes in the city centre of wellington for people to hold onto!

It was windy where I grew up and not next the sea. Remember a roof going off the garage and over the house just down the road from us.

sibble · 20/12/2006 19:27

happy birthday wethreebobkings have a great day

wethreebobkings · 21/12/2006 01:59

Had my hair done, then nipped to get sushi as I was starving and it took AGES (twas sunny). Then I got rained on and now have frizzy wet rats tail hair. it's a good look on me I think.

MrsJohnCuSackFullOfPresents · 21/12/2006 02:29

oh no! Still hope you are having a nice birthday despite MIL and rat's tails
yes I particularly enjoyed the sleet that DD and I got caught in walking from the car to the hospital for my antenatal appointment.

sotheycalledmeparapapillon · 21/12/2006 06:20

Happy Birthday wethreebobkings

wethreebobkings · 21/12/2006 06:24

Aw, thanks.

yawningmonster · 21/12/2006 07:01

Only just seen this. Have not been on in a while. Happy birthday w3bk (am assuming this is bobbybob in xmas disguise). We are in CHCH and have spent many blissful hours at Playdayz today, I got to sit down with a cuppa while ds ran around like a mad thing burning off all of his cabin fever..was heaven.

kjaylovessantamum · 21/12/2006 07:34

Happy Birthday Wthreebobk, hope you're having a good evening and getting spoiled sumwhat.

Ropes in Wellie, I had to run that one by Dp thought you was winding up the imports, but neigh it is true, mental!

Think we are on target for your southern sleet, South islanders, it's getting colder up here by the minute, still sunny as it sets though.

kjaylovessantamum · 21/12/2006 08:26

By the way Paps, took Ds to a Dermatologist about his rash and they have diagnosed ezcema. So he has been perscibed a hydroquartizone, anti fugal, antibacterial cream. It's difficult as you know how I feel about steriodal creams but I feel like I have to do something to help him now, he's so sore. We have decided to use it for the here and now to try and bring things under control, then try to find a more natural way to control it.
Have written this to Papillon as she knows the history of this problem but of course I welcome and appreciate the opinions of all you folks

sotheycalledmeparapapillon · 22/12/2006 09:21

Oh thats a bugger KJM - good you have found out what it is though. Will ask a friend what has worked for her dd - she is into natural remedies.

Talked to my sister on Skype last night but no video working yet.

hope that southern sleet went west

sibble · 22/12/2006 20:24

summer has arrived - in the NI at least. woohoo. Took the boys for a 3 hour hike yesterday morning, fantastic views of Waiheke, sky tower etc..... picnic, kite flying (this failed on account of no wind but the boys thought they were doing good). Home for swim in pool then friends for BBQ. Back late and slightly merry on festive wine. Am about to repeat it all today. We love summer in NZ. And friend rang with free tickets to womens tennis final and $500 expenses cheque from a competition she had just won. The end of the year just gets better and better.

Also have heard of some good treatments for excema will rack the brains and post. DS1 is anaphylactic to certain food so we give him supplements to boost immunity and have tried probiotics. How old is DS?

Anyway will keep chanting my good weather mantras and send some south.

wethreebobkings · 22/12/2006 22:11

Keep chanting sibble - we have drizzle today and it's about 10 degrees.

Yesterday I had a lovely lunch with MrsJC and her dd, before getting in a whole 10 minutes gardening before it rained again.

Have bought lovely warm weather food though - as I will NOT be beaten. I'm going to lie on beach towels in the lounge with the heat pump on if I have to.

kjaylovessantamum · 23/12/2006 03:00

Ds is 2.7 he seems to be getting better, again, in the nappy region but worse around his mouth, maybe something to do with the fairtrade choccy advent calender my mum sent him!? Was wondering whether to try cutting out milk for a while, probably not till after the festive season though.

Well done Sibble keep chanting it's working.
I very much admire your spirit wthreebobks and hope it's clearing up down there as well as it is here in Kapiti. Here's to strawberries and cream in the sun!

MrsJohnCuSackFullOfPresents · 23/12/2006 07:37

well we did indeed have a better day today but it's still not exactly summer yet!
did have a lovely time at threebob's yesterday followed by an hour's drive around ChCh in the rain trying to keep DD asleep - v.scenic & didn't actually work that well!
I keep reading Sibble's post in the hopes of magicking up the idyll painted in it. The paper says it will be 3 degrees overnight between Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. That can't be right can it?!

sotheycalledmeparapapillon · 23/12/2006 08:02

Sibble your day out with the boys sounded fab! And what a loving giving friend you have

You CHCH lot sound like you are having a north hemisphere xmas!! brrrrr

kjm - my mates dd has alot of food allergies along with the excema.
