Well I was lulled into a false sense of security that summer might have arrived. Within 10 mins of posting the sky went black, the heavens opened and you couldn't see the end of the drive for rain. Did clear though and we were able to hold bbq and kids were able to swim. Psycho auckland weather for you. At least we're not fog bound like London though I guess.

Off to MIL's in Hamilton today to deliver pressies. ALways an adventure, boys start chanting and moaning about 10 mins up the road for the whole journey. Spend about an hour with MIL who always looks soooooooooo happy to see us (not) to repeat the journey home. Thought we might stop at the zoo at the Bombays on the way back. Havn't been yet. Meant to be interactive and an animal rescue centre as well.

And it just gets better. Our neighbour who we see about twice a year has heard we are on our own for Christmas Day and invited us over. So we're off next door armed with our wine and nibbles. Heaps of kids for the boys to play with. Back for lunch and hopefully swim. With any luck they'll wear themselves out, go to bed normal time and I'll be able to enjoy my pressie I've bought myself - the Secret book.

Have great Christmas' all

sotheycalledmeparapapillon · 23/12/2006 20:04

Auckland is quite the monsoon village these days. We 4 seasons in one day kind of weather over here to mind, so its all going mad. As members we get postcards from Greenpeace and the change in the ice cap over 25 years is considerable.

Have a great day with the neighbours Sibble We have been at a xmas party today and dd had a great time running around - drank afew glasses of lovely glue wine

kjaylovessantamum · 24/12/2006 02:08

What on earth is glue wine, sounds like a sticky business.
Doubt if I'll get on again so I'd just like to say a huge Happy chistmas to you all and your families, christmas is so special now we have our DS to share it with and it's lovely to have you all out there who understand that so well, enjoy XX

welliemum · 24/12/2006 06:51

Merry Christmas Kiwis!

(from not-very-sunny Wellington)

Here's hoping for a bit of sun tomorrow!

MrsJohnCuSackFullOfPresents · 24/12/2006 07:31

Yes, Happy Christmas everyone!

wethreebobkings · 24/12/2006 09:01

Merry Christmas, I've just put ds's presents under the tree (Santa was busy and asked me to help) and found lots of little "notes" to Santa hidden under the satin I had put around the bottom. Of course ds can't write, but each one was a christmas sticker stuck on a piece of paper he had cut out. Very cute.

sotheycalledmeparapapillon · 27/12/2006 07:11

The Christmas Fairy came to visit here on Xmas Eve - which was both exciting and confusing for dd (3) who was told to go upstairs with her cousins while the fairy flew in the window with the gifts. Later DH took a photo of an angel lit up in the sky next to the house, so this was claimed as the "flying christmas fairy" ! Ingenious I know

I got to lie around reading in bed which is a perfect pastime imo

My kiwi contingent ran around with water pistols from $2 shop - so it was a hot wet day for them

kjaylovessantamum · 27/12/2006 07:29

We had a lovely day, Ds was so excited and amazingly well behaved taking his excitment into consideration and the fact that it drizzled most of the day and he could watch his new playhouse getting very wet. Still we had a lovely evening yesterday when the weather finally broke and Ds was visited by lots of his little mates in his playhouse, so cute.

sotheycalledmeparapapillon · 27/12/2006 07:59

Hi KJM dd was wringing her hands wondering if the evil parents were ever going to let her open those tantalising presents!!

,.b,??.v/&divid;//&divid;///?`/ . v/>Â?? ? * (message from ds who is already quite techy - hence lots of code!) He sent an sms off last week - can unlock phones and trys to ring people - caught him cuddling dh laptop before

sibble · 28/12/2006 00:18

Hi All. Chrismtas was good here too. Very relaxed. Boys loved their presents and were slightly hyper all day. Boxing Day was beautiful here, made good use of my new hammock pressie, few dips in the pool, BBQ dinner, a true kiwi Christmas.

DS1 at 6, nearly 7, is still fascinated by santa's footprints on the fireplace (a cunning trick with DH's boots and flour) Ruddolph's prints courtesy of 3 coins and more flour. Keeps me busy Christmas Eve anyway.

kjaysmum · 29/12/2006 08:08

hiya,

Sibble your xmas day sounds lovely and relaxing, aaahhh hammocks, pools and BBQ's, what bliss! Santa's footsteps sounds so sweet, I have all this to come, Ds still a bit young at 2.7 but I am taking notes

So Paps, sounds like your Ds will be entering his own contribution to MN before we know it
We off to Wellie on Sunday have decided to bring in the new year down there, and I am very keen to get into the apartment, DS did a trail stint at the shop there this afternoon with his Mum to guide him, he said it was lots to take in but he's a really fast learner so should be ok to take over tomorrow, that just leaves his little bro running the show up here after the hols, should be a huge challenge all round.
So lass only 20 days till you and your (is there a MN acronym for children) little folk arrive back in kiwiland, how exciting. Apparently Tanja's,as in wife of Phil, mum is flying in from Swiss on the same day as you, but then you won't have a clue who it is anyhow!

hinemoa · 29/12/2006 08:54

Hey, Tanja´s mum may well be on same flight as the maskedposter who will be easily identifiable what with wearing a mask and all My SF route is abit of a dog leg.

Have a wonderful new year and enjoy the shop!!! Nice to have abit of city life for afew days I guess

Sibble your hammock sounds blissful, I am going to hang one up in the Yurt today - a double one so that I can loll around with the LO´s, dc (little ones , darling children - for KJM!)

The weather is getting alot colder here, so am totally ready now for NZ warmer temps... so hard to find good things for kids to do when it is freezing. My family have been getting into Skype - saw my brother for the first time in about 4 years last night!! Will be good for dh while we are away so he can gaze at his babies down under.

a.k.a Paps

kjaysmum · 29/12/2006 09:56

oh you! I didn't realise it was you Hey I can't wait to have a good chat with you about DS's little problem, I think I should take him to a good herbalist. NOw I must go to bed yaaawwwwwn, nighty night

hinemoa · 29/12/2006 12:02

Apologies for the confusion! Here is the story of hinemoa so you find out more about my namechange!
The love story of Hinemoa and Tutanekai

The Maoris in the picture look rather white and blond! Though my SIL boy has a good dose of Maori blood and is blond haired and blue eyed.

sibble · 31/12/2006 21:54

Happy New Year all. Hope it brings everything you want and more.

Am feeling very virtuous this morning. As designated driver OD'd on fizzy water while everybody (and I mean everybody except the kids) got trollied but do I look and feel good this morning compared to a very sad DH. Smug me - surely not.......

kjaysmum · 07/01/2007 05:12

Hello all, very quiet on the Kiwi front I see, calm after the storm hey.
Hope you all all well and recovering from any excesses you may or may not have indulged in over the festive period.

Happy new year to all, well done sibble in being what they call in the nederlands "the bob' always a tricky one that. I personally have not been being "the bob" and am am feeling the consequences, not that it takes much for me to feel I've been over indulging somewhat.

Hinemoa, hows it going, the hour draws nearer, FI have to confess to being pretty excited about meeting you in the person again, it's kind of strange getting to know you like this!! We were talking about the festie today, on a scale of 1to 10 how likely is "Bertha's" presence, I know you must have lots on your mind for the home visit but just trying to get things more organised.

Wellington is a bit chillly still but fab fun, Ds loves it all the sounds and people buzz, parks etc, computer connection a bit slow though so not much MNing for me I think....

astoria · 07/01/2007 19:36

Hey (another name change!)

Dad is trying to install seat belts in Bertha - they are worried about the kids roaming about while I drive down. Not heard any further developments on that, will check when I speak to them next.

Feeling most unbob today as went out last night to the theater to see a friend dance, then we went to a very nice party with lots of dancing. Still went sleding today so hopefully some of the toxins were sweated out!

A couple of years ago I meet a woman here on MN - we became friends online, then I went and stayed with her in England and she has come here. It was like meeting a sister when I turned up on her doorstep! So there is hope for us KJM

Hi Sibble

zoej · 08/01/2007 13:59

Hi everyone,

Just thought I would say hello. We noticed the BBC news artlicle on Saturday about New Zealand wanting people to emigrate due to skills shortages.

My Husband has also just applied for a job in Lower Hutt, North Island and I was after some more info and to get an idea of what NZ life is like. I have looked at the immigration web site but would prefer to chat to likeminded woman on line.

We have 3 children DS age 6, DS's aged 3 and 1.5.

Zoe

MrsJohnCusack · 09/01/2007 01:44

Hi Zoe
Probably not much good to you as haven't been here too long and am in the SOuth Island, but hello! although can say we haven't regretted moving here at all yet, finding life most pleasant. Wellington seems to be really happening at the moment though, keep reading articles about how much is going on there and how culturally with it they are up there.
Have you checked all the previous threads on living/moving to NZ? SHould give you an idea of who is over here and who might be helpful, also seem to remember quite a detailed one on what it's like to live here - hang on, will go and try to find it...

MrsJohnCusack · 09/01/2007 01:49

hmm not sure which one I@m thinking of but if you search for 'New Zealand' and 'NZ' in the thread title, brings up lots of threads. We've not had the 'Living OVerseas' category for that long, so lots of useful threads show up in other places.

what sort of job has your DH applied for?

kjaysmum · 09/01/2007 20:03

hiya, have my two year old pulling on my arm so can't reply right now but I am in Kapiti(up the coast from the Hutt and staying in Wellinton at the moment, will back on more when I get homw next week...eek gotta go

Papillon · 10/01/2007 05:58

i love arm pulling posts!!!

talked to mum and it looks all good the seat belts for the kids in Bertha

Will give you a ring once in NZ we fly today for SF!!!

Am sad today as NZ friend (SouthIslandMum, but she's only posted here a couple of times) and her dh and dds are going back to Sumner after a month in the UK. Still, only a year or so until I see her again...
