Drugs test at work this morning

LoliC90 · 30/03/2018 13:22

If you have smoked cannabis within the past week could this show up if tested.

When I was finished my nightshift this morning I was asked to go for a random drugs test where I had to provide a sample of my urine.

Worried I could lose my job now.

Yes I agree also it isnt the best of jobs the way you can get treated at times.

Also long 12 hour shifts.

Oh for goodness sake hippo don’t be so bloody patronising

FluffyHippo · 30/03/2018 14:38

And they warned you at your interview too! What were you thinking?

8oOoOoOo8 · 30/03/2018 14:38

Well... if you knew the facts and continued to smoke (illegally), then hard luck. Suck it up.

Bluntness100 · 30/03/2018 14:39

If I was you I'd say nothing and see what the result comes back as. St least that way uou have a shot of keeping your job.

Did they test a few people or just you?

TheJoyOfSox · 30/03/2018 14:39

Here here @FluffyHippo. My sympathies lie with the people receiving ‘care’ from a stoner, rather than the op.

8oOoOoOo8 · 30/03/2018 14:40

Exactly

FluffyHippo · 30/03/2018 14:40

Sprinklesinmyelbow, I wasn't being patronising. I was just pointing out cause and effect - breach you terms of employment and bad shit happens.

LoliC90 · 30/03/2018 14:40

Yes it was very silly of me to put myself in a position like this.

Also as cannabis is illegal is there a chance if I test positive the police could be involved?

OP posts:
tootsweet30 · 30/03/2018 14:40

You might be lucky op. There are two types of tests used in most industries and the cheaper one is unlikely to find such low levels of cannabis. If it's positive they will often request a more expensive test which gives better indication of amounts and types. So if your test takes longer than normal that might be because a 2nd has been requested.

And can the moral police please go away? The op feels bad enough. If she gets away with it she is unlikely to risk it again!

Sprinklesinmyelbow · 30/03/2018 14:41

OP Isn’t even making excuses so you’re totally wasting your superiority

Redtartanshoes · 30/03/2018 14:41

It could show up yes. Urine tests more accurate than salvia/sweat...

Those who are saying they don’t think it would impede judgement/ability to do job... where do you draw the line? A quick smoke? A line? A pill. Drugs are illegal. The highs and lows effect your mood, your ability to make decisions and operate machinery this includes cars, plant and even a kettle. Would you want an elderly relative cared from someone who was on a Coke come down? Or had a quick smoke at lunch to get they them through the day

I’d be tempted to take resignation letter into results meeting. Theoretically you could hand your notice in after results but before dismissal, unethical but will prevent it from being on your record.

((Do tests as part of my job))

8oOoOoOo8 · 30/03/2018 14:41

No. Won't go away. And maybe the actual police will turn up as well.

LoliC90 · 30/03/2018 14:41

It was only me who was tested this morning.

I am aware of someone else though who has had it before afew months back.

OP posts:
StressedtoHellandBack · 30/03/2018 14:41

I don't have any older relatives in a Care Home but I would expect any care worker to be alert and clear of any drugs if taking care of people. It is not easy being a carer but how anyone could really do that job without being in full command of their abilities I do not know.
If you don't like the job do something else if it is so awful. People care at home for a whole lot less than minimum wage

vjg13 · 30/03/2018 14:42

Would it be possible to claim you were at a house where others were smoking and you may have inhaled by passive smoking if your test comes back positive?!

nakedscientist · 30/03/2018 14:42

OP. You could try this:
calculator.marijuanacentral.com

I have not used it myself, but it looks fairly good.

tootsweet30 · 30/03/2018 14:43

Police won't be called op because it's possession not taking cannabis that's illegal. It's not worth police time to come check your house for cannabis and that's all they could arrest you for.

FluffyHippo · 30/03/2018 14:44

If you read what I actually wrote, Sprinklesinmyelbow, you'd see that I never said that the OP was making excuses. I was just pointing out that there's no point crying over spilled milk - the OP knew her work had a no drugs policy, she knew she might be tested, she smoked dope anyway and got caught.

SarahSiddons · 30/03/2018 14:44

“My sympathies lie with the people receiving ‘care’ from a stoner, rather than the op.”

Oh come on. I don’t use drugs but I don’t believe that the cannabis use as described by the OP creates any more risk to the people she cares for than the alcohol she drank that same night. And if she’s using cannabis to an extent that would affect her work then it sounds like that would definitely show up in the test.

Bluntness100 · 30/03/2018 14:46

Op, some shite being posted on here. Single usage is up to eight days, it could be well put your system you'd have to wait and see.

I can't believe people are telling you to resign from a job you need when they don't know the result any more than you do. That's shitty, nasty behaviour. And I suggest you ignore them. And the police won't be interested. Don't worry.

As for only you being tested I'd be concerned about this. Has there been something in your behaviour that could cause this? And was it definitely just once at your friends last sat?

Redtartanshoes · 30/03/2018 14:46

Passive not so possible with urine. More common with skin test

Camiila · 30/03/2018 14:46

Would it be possible to claim you were at a house where others were smoking and you may have inhaled by passive smoking if your test comes back positive?!

passive smoking does not lead to a positive test for cannabis, that would just highlight yet another lie

StealthPolarBear · 30/03/2018 14:46

" It is not easy being a carer but how anyone could really do that job without being in full command of their abilities I do not know."
Same for many jobs and most front line jobs. So can I assume theyrw all subject to random drugs and alcohol testing?

Redtartanshoes · 30/03/2018 14:48

Our policy is after incident/accident just cause (suspicion) and 2 random a month
