Drugs test at work this morning

LoliC90 · 30/03/2018 13:22

If you have smoked cannabis within the past week could this show up if tested.

When I was finished my nightshift this morning I was asked to go for a random drugs test where I had to provide a sample of my urine.

Worried I could lose my job now.

Cannabis affects your judgement for a
couple of weeks after taking it

Do you have evidence of this?

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 30/03/2018 15:17

It’s unlikely you’ll be cautioned and No op, one doesn’t have to accept a caution
Wait on result if you're in a union seek advice

19lottie82 · 30/03/2018 15:18

maybe the actual police will turn up as
well.

Oh fgs, don’t be so bloody ridiculous! Hmm

Camiila · 30/03/2018 15:18

Camilla there is clearly some back story here that's causing you to post as you are, as we don't know that back story it comes across as a hysterical pile of shite with many erroneous details

I am a foster carer who hasseveral times taken in trafficked vietnamese children as an emergency at night, after they have been found working as slaves in cannabis factories that have been raided by the police.

Many other foster carers have had the same.

it is very well known how the cannabis industry is run, a guardian article put the number of child slaves growing cannabis is the Uk as over 10 thousand, I think

it is not a secret, or anything. It is perfectly public knowledge.

People just don't want to listen, that all

TopBitchoftheWitches · 30/03/2018 15:18

Op

I can confirm you will not get a criminal record for taking drugs.
The police officer I spoke to said that taking them isn't an offence only being in possession of them is.

Hope that helps a little.

EverlastingLove · 30/03/2018 15:19

If it comes back positive , which I doubt , after a week you could quite easily have ingested a small amount , just sitting next to someone who had been on the doobys

Camiila · 30/03/2018 15:20

It’s unlikely you’ll be cautioned and No op, one doesn’t have to accept a caution

thats perfectly true, you can choose to be taken to court instead.

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 30/03/2018 15:20

That’s utter rot ever, acting, read the thread

Viviennemary · 30/03/2018 15:20

I've never heard of random drug tests for care assistants. You should have refused it. Unless they have reason to believe you are a drug user.

LoliC90 · 30/03/2018 15:20

The whole thing has shaken me up anyway, thats why I say I wont be touching it again.

As soon as I was asked to go for the drugs test it was the first thing that came into my head about last Saturday, took me about 25 minutes before I could produce a sample, probably as I had thoughts running through my head.

I just want the results back either way.

When are people going to wake up to the fact that it is dangerous, that it makes users totally irresponsible and means other people have to pick up their responsibilities for them

Camiila, what are you talking about? The OP was off duty. It's not dangerous, no death has ever been directly caused by cannabis... unlike alcohol which has killed countless numbers of people, yet is legal and socially acceptable. Unless you are teetotal, I suggest you get off your high horse. Oh, and I suppose you also don't shop in any high street retailers because, you know, "child slaves".

TopBitchoftheWitches · 30/03/2018 15:21

camilla you have no idea what you are talking about.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 30/03/2018 15:21

Camiila is right about the trafficked children. It has been quite widely reported...

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 30/03/2018 15:22

This won’t result in Caution as op not in possession of cannabis

sashh · 30/03/2018 15:22

I'm not a legal bod.

But in your case I would wait for the result and then if it is thee explain you were at a party where it was smoked and offer a hair test - particularly if you have long hair.

The hair test gives an overview of habitual drugs use.

Cannabis can be inhaled when you are not actually smoking.

Even someone accidentally exhaling on your face will not make uou high and the have it be in your system for a week

Not entirely true, I have a cousin who smokes and her sister doesn't. Or they were like that in their teens. Both in the same bedroom with cousin 1's friends and all smoking, cousin 2 was definitely high.

OP

What does it say in your contract? That will decide what happens if and when the test is positive.

MsBeauvoir · 30/03/2018 15:22

Should of thought of that before using illegal drugs. I see Captain Hindsight from the Ministry of INeverPutAFootWrongMyself is in the building Hmm

19lottie82 · 30/03/2018 15:22

Another vote for camilla is talking absolute SHITE

OP - it might show up, it might not.

I used to work as a health and safety administrator for a large construction company, and had to organise the drug testing on site.

If there is a positive result, I imagine it will be very minimal. You might get a warning, you might get sacked, no one can say BUT no one will call the police. Who’s that going to benefit? Do you really think they will even care? Having cannabis in your system isn’t a crime in its self.

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 30/03/2018 15:22

Camilla is correct there are unfortunately children and vulnerable adults compelled to work in cannabis factories
It’s a modern slavery and safeguarding issue
Considerable coverage in press recently

HeedMove · 30/03/2018 15:22

80 you need to get a grip. The actual police would not give a flying fuck about someone smoking one joint. My friends little brother was caught with some last week and they did nothing as it was only a small amount for personal use they didn’t even take it off him!

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 30/03/2018 15:24

Sashh your advice is dreadful and an an anecdote about your cousin isn’t fact

19lottie82 · 30/03/2018 15:25

I've never heard of random drug tests for
care assistants. You should have refused it

If it’s in the OPs contract and she agreed to it by signing the contract, they can conduct random tests whenever they like.

Refusing a test would usually end up in a dismissal anyway.

The only way she could refuse it and keep her job would be if there was nothing about it in her contract, but the OP stated it was discussed at her interview, so I imaging this wouldn’t be the case.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 30/03/2018 15:25

Why do you have to wait a week? Every time I did a drugs test (working in pharma) the pot had a bit at the back which showed the result and it was done there and then.

We always had to say if we’d been eating poppy seeds, because if you’ve had enough they can give a false positive for opiates.

TheShaniaTwainExperience · 30/03/2018 15:25

maybe the actual police will turn up as
well

As opposed to the hypothetical police?

No. Police. Will. Show. Up. Actual or otherwise...

8oOoOoOo8 · 30/03/2018 15:26

It's pretty clear from all the defensiveness who on here smokes...

upsetangryandpissed · 30/03/2018 15:26

i work in care & random drug tests aren't in my contract. I would bite the bullet & tell my manager the truth.
