Drugs test at work this morning

LoliC90 · 30/03/2018 13:22

If you have smoked cannabis within the past week could this show up if tested.

When I was finished my nightshift this morning I was asked to go for a random drugs test where I had to provide a sample of my urine.

Worried I could lose my job now.

Likely cannabis wil show up ,yes

Camiila · 30/03/2018 14:21

Cannabis affects your judgement for a couple of weeks after taking it

TheChineseChicken · 30/03/2018 14:21

Camiila where on earth are you getting that from? I find that very hard to believe

StealthPolarBear · 30/03/2018 14:22

Care workers really have a shitty deal don't they

Theimpossiblegirl · 30/03/2018 14:26

I honestly don't see how a recreational spliff on your day off would affect your ability to work. It seems very unfair unless you are in a safety critical job or stoned at work. I say this as a non-smoker.

Your employer may be more concerned about the honesty, however, so coming clean might be worth the risk. Check your contract first.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 30/03/2018 14:26

Don't use the CBD oil as an excuse, it isn't picked up by the usual tests and will acknowledge that you know you have something to worry about. I am not guessing, I know this to be true, DH is regularly tested and it is part and parcel of the information pack they all get... to stall stupid excuses!

Just sit and wait... if that was a one off toke then you may well be in the clear. Learn the lesson, stay clear of friends who proffer joints when you are too drunk to have good judgement!

ItsalmostSummer · 30/03/2018 14:27

If it doesn’t show up, then please give up this habit. If you want this job it should motivate you to stop having even little amounts. As it still might show up, its really wait and see for you.

Ryder63 · 30/03/2018 14:27

StealthPolarBear poorly paid, often verbally/physically abused by service users and put upon by management. Yes care workers really do have a shitty deal, and are leaving in droves, apparently. No wonder.

SpringNowPlease2018 · 30/03/2018 14:29

OP I've just started taking CBD oil which is legal

I don't know enough about blood tests to know but could you say you had some of that - it's sold in Holland & Barrett.

I wouldn't tell the truth unless they approach you

btw is it normal for carers to have to take drug tests?

retirednow · 30/03/2018 14:30

What sort of job do you do, what made them do a drugs test

Creambun2 · 30/03/2018 14:30

Should of thought of that before using illegal drugs.

Raven88 · 30/03/2018 14:30

@CuriousaboutSamphire

Thank you for clearing that up. I read that it can but I've reported my comment and asks for it to deleted.

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 30/03/2018 14:31

Camilla, cognition, judgement, mood, behaviour can be affected by cannabis weeks later but it depends on
Strength of cannabis eg skunk
Pattern of usage eg single use or habitual use
Amount ingested
Any preexisting mental health conditions

But in general judgement won’t automatically be affected weeks later but sustained habitual use will have detrimental effects

StealthPolarBear · 30/03/2018 14:32

Oh please. I don't use cannabis but it is quite common and afaik lots of people in highly paid responsible jobs use it abd worse regularly. Some of the threads on here are eye opening. This is just another way to keep low paid workers in their place and an opportunity to get rid of them.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 30/03/2018 14:33

I don't know enough about blood tests to know but could you say you had some of that Please don't. I can only repeat that normal tests will NOT pick up CBD oil. It is one of the 'excuses' that is heavily warned against in the usual bumf given out to people who are regularly tested - in DHs industry at least.

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 30/03/2018 14:33

CBD oil a retail produced product will not produce same results as cannabis
The kits are sensitive and calibrated for illicit drugs and that excuse won’t cut it

StealthPolarBear · 30/03/2018 14:34

I know a pilot and a surgeon. I don't know if they have random drugs tests although I suspect the pilot does and the surgeon doesn't. If they do, I'd support that. There are few jobs where i consider it to be actually necessary.

TheChineseChicken · 30/03/2018 14:34

Stealth I totally agree. Really, how is a bit of cannabis any worse than alcohol. If OP had been drinking herself shit faced every night that would be ok??

CuriousaboutSamphire · 30/03/2018 14:35

Raven It would if the THCs in it were measured, but the chances of that are next to zero. Mainly because it is usually derived from hemp!

CBD oil can be extracted from the cannabis plant, but it’s almost always from the hemp plant. Unlike marijuana, hemp has almost no THC at all. Aside from that, there aren’t any known drug tests that look for CBD in your urine or blood. CBD is not an illegal substance by itself and there is no point in looking for it.

Sprinklesinmyelbow · 30/03/2018 14:36

I agree with stealth. Ridiculous. And to be quite frank it’s hard enough to get care assistants such it’s such a shit job I’m amazed they’re putting themselves in a position where they’ll lose ones willing to stay

LoliC90 · 30/03/2018 14:36

I was made aware at my interview that I could potentially be tested on the odd occasion.

This is only the first time it has happened on the job though, it was also a sample of my urine I had to provide, not a blood test.

OP posts:
FluffyHippo · 30/03/2018 14:36

... and the moral of this story is don't take drugs. Ever. Not when your job demands that that you don't. Your employers expect you to be drug-free for a very good reason and it seems to me, OP, that you're more concerned with being caught out than with the possible consequences of you taking drugs whilst working in the care profession.

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 30/03/2018 14:37

Is it nhs post?

SarahSiddons · 30/03/2018 14:37

“Just sit and wait... if that was a one off toke then you may well be in the clear. Learn the lesson, stay clear of friends who proffer joints when you are too drunk to have good judgement!”

On balance I think this is the best advice right now.

Creambun2 · 30/03/2018 14:37

@TheChineseChicken

Whether cannabis is more harmful than alcohol etc etc isn't the issue here. As the law stands cannabis is illegal. If you work in a job with random drugs tests and are found positive with banned substances in your sample you will likely be sacked.

Just madness to do it when you know you could be tested.
