Thought I would start a thread as can't see one already
Anyone in the same boat who'd like to chat?
It's our first round. Likely to need a freeze all which I'm quite disappointed about as means won't even transfer until Nov.
I'm on short protocol.
Feeling pretty fed up ATM tbh, partly because it's come to this but also just want to get going, currently just waiting for my period early sept and feels like my life is on hold until then!

Hi @Klmno, we are due to start our first cycle around the 1st of September. All of my medication is being delivered tomorrow so that’s exciting. It does all feel like a massive waiting game doesn’t it. This is also our first cycle too!

Happyclappy22 · 19/08/2025 23:53

1st cycle and barely understand anything that’s going on. We’re on a long protocol and I’m on day 7 of buserelin for down reg. Currently waiting on my period before I go in for a scan, my period is 1 day late so I’m on day 27 in my cycle which is unusual (my cycles are short and usually between 23-26) I need my period to come before stims. Should I be worried it’s late ? I have endo and feel little twinges of cramps but no pain atm

Miraclemuma03 · 20/08/2025 06:50

Hi! Im going for a FET in September. I had a full stim cycle in april which failed and again in July which gave us a fresh transfer end of July and ended up with a negative test early august unfortunately. I didnt want to jump straight into a transfer in august so just wanted a break as coming off the meds I had a huge crash so wanted to recover from that. So now im just getting through august and then wait for day 1 in September. I have 10 children though majority all teenagers now and 2 adult children who are living their best life out of home. We have two younger children as we started all over again 4yrs ago so we have a 3yr old and a nearly 20month old. We also have an angel baby who didnt make it past 4 month gestation. Iv also had 9 miscarriages and 1 chemical. Last year we thought we could try our very last embryo from our last ivf cycle over 4yrs prior and unfortunately that was our chemical nd thats when we decided we wanted to try for one more but so far its not worked for us. We have 1 last day 6, 4aa embryo left from our recent last 2 cycles and we are going to test our luck but if we are unlucky I dont know if I could keep putting myself through ivf. This last cycle took me a long time to recover from. Im also 40 and going through perimenopaus so im probably asking too much to bring home one last little bubs. Good luck ladies whether your trying for your first or 3rd or more, the process is hard and we all deserve success. I wish you all the luck..

Hi

I’m 42 and starting my first IVF cycle during September. Currently on Norethisterone (day 7 of 30) and due to start stims on 18th Sept

pastelheart · 20/08/2025 14:20

Hi @Happyclappy22@Miraclemuma03@Norfolk1983

I have had all of my medication delivered this morning and honestly couldn’t get over how much there is! Have checked it all off and it’s all there though so that’s good. Count down is on, I think stims will start in about 11/12 days

YourTipsyDog · 20/08/2025 16:29

Hello 👋🏻 I joined the August group but I actually won’t be having my egg collection until September so I think it makes more sense for me to be in this one. Thank you for starting it @Klmno

I am on my second cycle; the first was in January and I responded very poorly and only got one embryo to transfer which didn’t result in a pregnancy. That was a short protocol so we are now trying a long protocol and are doing 3 cycles with access to hopefully have a better chance.

I totally get what you mean @Klmno when you say you are annoyed to find yourself here. Personally, I find it easier once I get started as I feel that I’m taking action then; waiting around isn’t my forte!

Nice to meet you all :)

Klmno · 20/08/2025 20:20

It's great to hear from others in the same boat! Hi everyone!

Sorry to hear about previous unsuccessful rounds for a couple of people. Fingers crossed for this cycle!

@pastelheart I haven't got my medication yet but feel a bit daunted about it all! Do you feel like you know what you're doing with it? My clinic sent me some videos to watch, I need to actually do that!

I have been really emotional today, can't shake myself out of feeling low.
I think it's the weird mix of being sad about it all but also raring to get going! I feel like the wait for my period is dragggggging (still a couple of weeks away). But I should have started stims three weeks today, at latest. And assume egg collection will be done by a couple of weeks after that. We then have a nice holiday booked in the Lakes so that's what's getting me through. Anyone else feel they're wishing their life away?

We are trying for our first baby. How about everyone else? Wow miraclemuma it must be lovely having a big family!

@Klmno yes I did feel very worried about the medication when I saw it all on the invoice but what I did was- I went through and found out which each one was for, so I could work out when it would be taken and then I wrote it out in a list with this detail and a few other things (how had to be stored etc) I then watched a couple of videos for each one on how to administer it and that 100% helped.

now I have it, I checked it was all there (which it was) and then I split it out to pre egg collection and post egg collection. This helped as it was a smaller amount to have to worry about, can forget about the post egg collection for quite a few weeks. So I do feel much better now and the clinic have also said they will go through it all when I go in for my baseline scan and I can ask any questions I have then too

you will be okay, try and break it down into smaller chunks so it’s not as overwhelming. That always helps me Smile x

pastelheart · 20/08/2025 21:40

I also feel like the wait for my period is taking 10 years! I do feel excited to get started though, but I am quite an excitable person… I get excited over anything.

we are trying for our first baby together, but I have a 12 year old son from a previous relationship. We have male factor infertility, my partner has zero sperm Confused BUT, this is because he went through some treatment and he knew that could happen so he thought ahead and froze some sperm about 10 years ago. Him being a type A personality drives me mad sometimes but not in this situation, was very clever and organised

Happyclappy22 · 20/08/2025 23:40

Anyone on here doing the long protocol with endo ?

Miraclemuma03 · 21/08/2025 01:46

@pastelheart wow that was lucky your partner did that. Fingers xd all works. My husband has a low sperm count so we have to use icsi. Is this something your clinic is considering for your cycle?

pastelheart · 21/08/2025 08:21

@Happyclappy22what is the difference between long and short protocol?

@Miraclemuma03very very lucky! Yes we are doing icsi, as we only have a limited amount of sperm this is our one shot so we are chucking absolutely everything at it… including all the add ons as we want to be able to ensure we did everything we can x

NoNewsIs · 21/08/2025 17:52

Hello all, thank you for starting this thread. First try at IVF, long protocol and starting buserelin injections on the 6th September.
I have severe endo and have been told need surgery before can have embryo transfer, so it’ll be a freeze-all. Fingers crossed for everyone.

I also found the amount of medication arriving overwhelming! There’s a lot to get your head round.

Happyclappy22 · 21/08/2025 18:28

@pastelheart I actually don’t know much about the short protocol. I know that with the long protocol you have a down regulation time. So I’ve been on buserelin since last week Wednesday. Not sure when my stims will start but I’ve got a scan tomorrow and it’s day 2 of my period.

@NoNewsIs You sound very similar to me as I also have endo I think that’s why we’re on the long protocol as I know buserelin puts your hormones to sleep temp or something like that. Funnily enough I had my 2nd laparoscopy 9 months ago.

pastelheart · 21/08/2025 19:46

@Happyclappy22 ahhh okay, thank you for explaining! I am on short protocol then, that doesn’t include the down regulation, just straight to stims around day 2 of your cycle.

welcome @NoNewsIs so much to get your head around! I have built an IVF planning in excel… my partner laughed at me but he should be use to this by now… everything gets banged into a spreadsheet lol x

NoNewsIs · 21/08/2025 20:02

@Happyclappy22 I had an emergency laparoscopy about six months ago too! I have to have a large ovarian cyst removed now. Sigh.

There is so much to get your head around. How have you found the buserelin injections?

@pastelheartvery impressed by your spreadsheet! I have a sheet of paper from the hospital taped to my fridge. It has barely any information on it (and two day 1s which doesn’t make any sense!) and I’m counting on getting more information as I reach each stage, as so far I only know I’m starting the injections and have a scan booked, I can’t figure out when the other meds start. They did tell me but not in writing! I’m NHS, is anyone else?

Klmno · 21/08/2025 20:12

Thanks @pastelheart that's really good advice about what to do with the medication to make it feel less overwhelming! You're right some of it won't even be needed until after egg collection so may as well forget those ones for the time being! I think I'll feel better once mines arrived and I have figured out what needs storing in the fridge. I think I'm paranoid I'll store them incorrectly and they'll not work!

I feel a bit more positive today as paid my meds invoice and booked my virology bloods, it was good to tick a couple of jobs off my list and feel a tiny bit closer (although not good about the cost, we are going private as the wait for NHS in my area was longgggg and I couldn't bare it! Especially as it's just one round in our area. We've gone for a two round package with Access).

We are also doing isci plus something called zymot which the clinic sold us and I'm not sure really has much evidence base tbh 🤷🏻‍♀️ it sounds like some sort of obstacle course for the sperm to see which ones move the best. My partner has sperm DNA fragmentation, not sure we'll ever know why as he's the healthiest person I know!!

OP posts:
pastelheart · 21/08/2025 20:51

@NoNewsIs if you would like a copy of my spreadsheet, inbox me your email address and I am more than happy to email it… be warned though it is pastel pink in colour and has hearts and flowers all over it (my fave aesthetic- hence the name!) we are not NHS, we are private the money has flown out my bank account. I also found chatGPT very helpful for working out which medication was for what

@Klmnomy medication turned up with the fridge stuff in a separate bag so was easy to work out and also on each medication box it says whether to store in fridge so again- easy. glad you are feeling more positive! The cost is scary isn’t it. And the sperm assault course sounds amazing lol! I am going to go and Google! X

Happyclappy22 · 21/08/2025 21:02

@NoNewsIs oh wow an emergency? Why didn’t they just remove the cyst then and there ? I’m confused. I was told with my 2nd lap that everytime I get surgery it will leave scar tissue so not the best thing.

so far I’ve had absolutely no problems with buserelin whatsoever. I would just give you a heads up that the bottle is not filled to the top when you get it so you may question whether you’ll have enough but you should. I have been given 2. I find it easier injecting myself as opposed to my husband doing it. The needle is tiny. I squeeze the area of my tummy, push the needle in then release my grip and slowly inject the liquid. Sorry I’m giving so much detail it’s because I wish I had all this info when I started I panicked like crazy.

Looool I also have the paper timeline stuck to my wall in my bedroom. I ended up buying a mini fridge to put all my meds in upstairs.I’m also with NHS too 😂

NoNewsIs · 21/08/2025 21:09

@pastelheartthat is very kind of you to offer! I think as I’m long protocol and various other quirks, our circumstances are probably too different. But I know who to offer to pay to make me a personalised spreadsheet if it comes to it! Thank you :) and I’m sorry about your bank balance! Good tip re ChatGPT

@Happyclappy22I was hospitalised with a ruptured cyst, so it wasn’t planned at all. They saw some cysts during the surgery but were just dealing with the burst one. It seems some have grown considerably since then so I’ve been pillar to post between different gynaes specialising in fertility and endo as they try to agree on a plan.
I really appreciate your detailed explanation of how to do the buserelin injections! Thank you.

Backtotheicsi · 22/08/2025 22:57

Hope I’m ok to hope on, we are short protocol so already on the way but our egg collection is around 4/5th September depending on growth etc. third full round, last round was 8 years ago and we had dd. It is crazy that I’ve done this all before but am absolutely anxious just like the first go around I feel I have forgotten everything. The only thing that has stayed around is the no cares in the world about scans etc. I used to be the shyest person in the room and around the early stages of doing round 2 I completed stopped caring 😂 I’ll whip my pants off in seconds now. The joys!
if anyone has any questions I’ll try and help, I’ve done long protocol on my previous 2 cycles but have changed clinic and this is how they do it here to begin with so very nervous about that!

pastelheart · 23/08/2025 08:00

@NoNewsIs hahaha yes just let my know, I am your girl!

@Backtotheicsi welcome! I think
its an anxious process and doesn’t matter how many times as it’s all just unknown isn’t it. How did your first two rounds go? How come you changed clinics and are you happy so far with your new one?

Hope everyone is okay? Does anyone have anything nice planned this weekend? My son and partner are off to watch the football today as they have a season ticket (which I thought was a lovely idea at the time but now realise most Saturdays I will be by myself) so I am going to see my mum as she had an operation last week on her knee x

Backtotheicsi · 23/08/2025 08:05

@pastelheart very true I don’t think you can quite get used to it. I had a chemical pregnancy first round, one frozen which was a bfn. Second round had my little girl from a 5bc embryo the rest didn’t make quality for freeze. So quality has always been an issue but if it can work once, fingers crossed!

that sounds lovely for them to go to football together, I’m sure that will help him keep busy but hard for you! Make sure you treat yourself and I hope you have a lovely day with your mum. Where are you up to with treatment? x

Backtotheicsi · 23/08/2025 08:55

Sorry realised I missed the bit about changing clinics, we used to live closer to Shrewsbury so used them but we’re north wales now so went with Manchester, at the time 2 years ago when I was trying to build the courage to start ivf again my bmi was higher so they were one of the only clinics I could use and I liked how thorough they seemed but I chickened out at the time. My bmi is healthy now but I’m glad we changed so far, they seem much more on board about issues I’ve raised in the past that were brushed off in my last clinic. Things have come a long way though with having an app I’ve only actually been twice in person and won’t go now until my first scan next Friday so I’ll see how we go!

pastelheart · 23/08/2025 08:59

@Backtotheicsi100%, it only takes one as they say! How old is your little girl? My son is almost 12 which is crazy

I am just waiting for my period to start, which should be around the 1st September give or take a couple of days (have 27-30 day cycles, day 28 is next Sunday) and then baseline scan on day 2/3 and then start stims hopefully. Have all the medication here. So strange as for the past 4 years have not wanted your period to come and now I am wishing for it to come right now on day 20 would be perfect!

how have stims been this time? What medication have you been on, wonder if it’s the same as mine x
