Thought I would start a thread as can't see one already
Anyone in the same boat who'd like to chat?
It's our first round. Likely to need a freeze all which I'm quite disappointed about as means won't even transfer until Nov.
I'm on short protocol.
Feeling pretty fed up ATM tbh, partly because it's come to this but also just want to get going, currently just waiting for my period early sept and feels like my life is on hold until then!

I cant believe how fast spetember is coming around. Im just finalising the bill for my FET, then the clinic have to organise the medications. Im doing a type of modified FET, so il be taking a trigger shot and progesterone but will be waiting for my period, growing a follicle and thickening my lining naturally. My husband and I are in discussions with Whether or not we go privately for ivf if our FET doesnt work. Currently we have been using a bulked bill clinic and they have been amazing and we have had great success with them when i was younger but they are a more one size fits all clinic and they dont do procedures or anything on weekends. But so far we have done 2 cycles, first cycle i believe they made a mistake as I believe i had already ovulated and they left me growing follicles too long so we ended up with no embryos. Second cycle got us 2 embryos. With my age and low ovarian reserve and husbands low sperm count I just dont know what more they can offer us. Going private will be a huge expense here in australia, upwards of something like $20,000 and not including all the meds so we wouldnt be able to do a cycle straight away and il be 41 most probably by the time I can go private.. so I dont even know where il stand by then with my decent into perimenopaus.

@pastelheart I just thought I’d let you know that my baseline scan was fine; I forgot that they do the scan with very dimmed lights and you have some blue cloth across your lap so it’s as dignified as it can be! Thankfully all is as it should be so I’ll be starting my stims tomorrow :)

Thelonggame2025 · 26/08/2025 16:00

How did your scans go today ladies sending you lots of positive vibes 🙌🏻

Klmno · 26/08/2025 16:52

Hi everyone! Just catching up on here. I can't believe I started the thread a week ago already, when I was feeling really lonely about it all and now there's loads of us on here (and also a whole week has gone so maybe time isn't dragging as much any more).

Glad your scan was ok @YourTipsyDog. That's exciting you start stims! I don't think I'm having any scans at the start of my cycle, I think they'll just tell me to start without a scan. Should I be worried? (I'm short protocol)

@Happyclappy22 I'm 35 and we will have been trying for 19 months when we start. I know people try a lot longer but I am mentally not in a good place with it and didn't want to wait longer. It feels like the right time for us to do IVF privately but maybe it's sooner than others would. I used to dream of 3 children and I'm finding it hard trying to accept that's maybe unrealistic now. I would obviously be over the moon with one (hopefully two).

@Thelonggame2025 I know what you mean about friends all having babies. I have a few friends who started trying similar time to us and got pregnant first cycle. It's so hard not to compare! Plus I work with a lot of women and there seem to have been lots of pregnancies the past year or so.

Very sorry @NoNewsIs to hear you've had to postpone, best of luck with your surgery!!

Day 5 stims for me and already uncomfortable. Hope everyone else is making progress towards treatment or with treatment. Where are your clinics? We are Manchester xx

YourTipsyDog · 26/08/2025 16:56

@Klmno no that’s normal for short protocol (at least, I didn’t have one when I did short protocol) It’s really great that you aren’t feeling so lonely about it all; it really means a lot to have someone to talk to who actually understands it. Do you know roughly when you’ll start your stims yet?

Klmno · 26/08/2025 17:23

Ahh phew that's a relief! I was worried my clinic are cutting corners or something haha

I think I ovulated yesterday so period due the Monday after next. I think I phone them up the day my period comes and then they tell me when to start stims. I'm not sure how they decide what day?!

I'm Manchester too. At Manchester Fertility. What clinic are you @Backtotheicsi ? Sorry to hear you're uncomfortable. What kind of discomfort is it, like in your ovaries? Fingers crossed you're getting lots of juicy follicles!!

OP posts:
Backtotheicsi · 26/08/2025 17:29

@Klmno hey me too! How exciting :) ye super full in the ovary region with occasional twinges.
I saw you mention about when you’ll start after period and if it’s the same as me you’ll have your meds prep booked in already? When you have that they go through a lot but they will tell you to only ring when you’re on a full flow not spotting. My understanding is if it’s before 10am you ring you may start that day but anything after that they will have you start 7am the next morning. I’m short protocol too! You can start between days 1-3 of your cycle though so I’m not sure if it would be different if you started over a weekend etc as I’m sure they probably time it to egg collections I believe they only do Monday- Friday!

Klmno · 26/08/2025 17:36

Ah thanks that's really helpful! I usually wake up to full flow, don't tend to get much pre-spotting. A bit worried as I'm in work on the Monday I'm due on and it's not always easy to just leave and make a private phonecall but I'll just have to find a way. I have the meds appointment the Friday before and then we are at a wedding that weekend. I won't have access to a fridge and saw the Meriofert needs to be stored in a fridge until it's made up. I don't know whether to make it up a few days early, so that it doesn't need to be kept in the fridge and I can take it away with me just in case my period comes early! Would be just my luck it did that month lol!

How are you finding Manchester fertility so far?

OP posts:
Backtotheicsi · 26/08/2025 17:42

@Klmno you could chat to them on your meds appointment they may say they don’t start people off over the weekend anyway. Sounds like you have very similar to me we have meriofert and then started ovamex today.

they’ve been absolutely fine it’s been strange I’ve only been twice and was only there a short space of time. The app is great and really helpful seeing all the meds and times etc. the nurse I had for my meds call was absolutely lovely, she was called Katherine, I said I hoped she was working when I come in for egg collection! Everyone’s been fine though but she was just really person centred and it didn’t feel like just a run of the mill chat it felt like she really cared! :) how about you?

Klmno · 26/08/2025 17:53

Yeah that's true, I guess I could ask even if I came on my period on the Saturday would I start the meds the Sunday or would it be Monday anyway (we get back Sunday afternoon). She might say even if it came on the sat I wouldn't start meds til the Monday.

Is egg collection usually about two weeks after starting stims or is it a bit sooner than that?
Have they said when your next scan will be?

I've found Manchester fertility pretty good so far and agree the app is helpful!
Feel a bit like I'm not sure if we've ticked everything off though! We've signed a form called 'costed treatment plan' but I'm not sure if there's further consent forms too? I have my virology bloods on Friday and my partner needs to send his results in when he gets them as GP agreed to do them. I don't know if there's anything else I need to do as well!

OP posts:
Backtotheicsi · 26/08/2025 18:22

they said typically 14 days later, with scans around day 8, 10 and 12 but depending on weekend. Then would be given a trigger time for 35.5 hours before collection is scheduled. But in my experience you can need longer and I’m sure for others they’ve been ready sooner so it depends on your response to the stims, in the past I’ve responded well but ended up needing longer because there was quite a lot of follicles it was just taking them a while to be at the appropriate size for mature eggs.
Erm I signed a few forms not sure on the order now. But they sent them all to me before we arranged the meds prep I’m sure. The only one after that I remember is the egg collection consents but she sent them after the prep call so you’re likely all sorted. But check your email from your next steps call because that would list anything outstanding I think! xx

Backtotheicsi · 26/08/2025 18:22

My first scan is this Friday 9am :) xx

Klmno · 26/08/2025 20:44

Thanks that's helpful to know! I think part of my anxiety is the unknowns of even when we will start etc, I reckon I'll feel better once we've actually got going and I'm ticking off the injections! Good luck with your scan on Friday, hopefully everything is looking off to a good start!!

Happyclappy22 · 26/08/2025 23:38

Wow @Backtotheicsi & @Klmno short protocol seems quite different from the long one I am on. So interesting ! @Klmno you can absolutely still have 3 children I’m hopeful for you regarding that esp because you could have twins!!

pastelheart · 27/08/2025 08:43

@Miraclemuma03what other options are there in Australia other than private? In the UK with have the NHS, is there something like that in Australia too? It’s so much money isn’t it, we are private in the UK and it’s just a lot. I remember when I sent the invoice to my partner for IVF/ICSI that didn’t include the medication and he was like… that’s not as much as I thought and I was like hold your horses cowboy here’s the other part of it lol

@YourTipsyDogthank you so much for updating me, I feel better about this now. I’m glad your scan went well and good luck for your first day of stims, let us know how they go!

@Backtotheicsihow are you feeling today? What’s been the worst part about stims so far? We are in Cardiff and using Care Fertility, that have been very good so far!

how’s everyone feeling? I am struggling with work as IVF is taking up all my brain space and I don’t care about anything else currently. I am due to start my period this weekend which will hopefully mean starting stims early next week. Very exciting! X

Backtotheicsi · 27/08/2025 08:48

@pastelheart so far just the ache, which is really absolutely fine it’s just a constant reminder so you can’t really think about anything else. Injections have all been fine so far!
I’m lucky I work in a school though and so I’ve been off, back Monday though only I’ll be on a half day as I’ll have a scan that morning. Work have been brilliant, she’s just asked me to update her as I get the dates but with no question of the appointments just to let her know for staffing. How has everyone else’s jobs been? Supportive?

Miraclemuma03 · 27/08/2025 10:35

@pastelheart we have what is called bulked billed ivf. Its still costs money but extremely discounted. That's what we have been using over the years but I feel now because of my age and other issues we may need more.

pastelheart · 27/08/2025 12:35

@Backtotheicsiglad you aren’t too uncomfortable. That’s good that your work have also been understanding, deff makes it easier doesn’t it. I work from home so that helps, I can also scoot off quite easily without it causing any issue. I am very close to my manager so she’s aware and absolutely fine with working around me. I do manage quite a bit team and have just said I have a few appts over the next month so might be in and out a bit.

@Miraclemuma03thats really interesting! Is that funded by the government, the discount I mean?

SummerSolstice25 · 27/08/2025 21:12

I’ll join you! I started in the July group, I was on the short protocol but I responded poorly to stims so they cancelled my cycle. I had an AMH of 19 so they had expected a better result. I’ll be starting the long protocol next week, starting with a nasal spray. They have not increased my stims dose from the first cycle, I’m a little concerned about that but I have to trust that they know best. I’m 39 and have no children.

Happyclappy22 · 27/08/2025 23:24

@SummerSolstice25 welcome! When you say you responded poorly were there physical signs you were not responding ? Like no bloating or didn’t have any symptoms ? I’m on the long protocol and you’re the first person I’ve seen on the chat who is using the nasal spray. Is it buserelin ?

also anyone’s belly feel itchy after injecting ?

SummerSolstice25 · 28/08/2025 07:18

@Happyclappy22 yes in hindsight I wasn’t as bloated as other people tend to get. I was only 8 days into the process and I didn’t know what to expect. I had tiredness and lots of ewcm but that was it. The spray is called Synarel.

Happyclappy22 · 28/08/2025 17:29

@SummerSolstice25 thanks for responding! Hopefully you will respond much better this time ☺️I’m on day 5 on stims and not really feeling much. I have a scan on Tuesday so excited/nervouse how’s it going everyone else ?

camelinastorm · 28/08/2025 22:18
