Hi 👋
I'm due to commence IVF next month (injections to start 2nd October).
Thought I'd start a group for anyone going through the same thing at the same time to support each other ☺️

@Scorbunny2 Is this injections following FET or build up to collection? I asked my clinic if canesten cream was safe, but they said they could not advise and to speak to GP. Emailed GP & they said I need appt and to call them. I have been on hold 38mins so far and moved 3 spaces. Our NHS is a joke! Its a simple yes or no, I dont need an appt.

@wateringcanface @ClaireBear101 @Purpleflowers17 thanks so much for your kind words ladies!

The clinic called us about an hour ago with some excellent news, the blood test results all look great and my wife's HCG levels are 250+. We're so relieved, we were certain it was going to be a CP. they've booked her back in for another blood test on Thursday then a 7 week scan on the 11th Nov.

Welcome to the new ladies on the thread and good luck to everyone at whatever stages you are at xxx

Scorbunny2 · 22/10/2024 18:21

@AnonS injections build up to egg collection. I didn't even ask. I was in so much discomfort that I just done it. I expected my period today and not here yet and no symptoms of it coming so dunno what to think.

@Hummingbird36 congratulations that's fantastic news, hope for us all

@AnonS @Scorbunny2 I seem to have a thrush too! My egg collection was last Weds. Will talk to the clinic tomorrow to see what they recommend. They should really be able to advise if canesten is safe, I bet this sort of thing often comes up!

BelleCrescent · 22/10/2024 19:30

What a relief, @Hummingbird36 , I’m really happy for you!!

Ru19 · 22/10/2024 19:36

@Hummingbird36 congratulations that's amazing news!!

wateringcanface · 22/10/2024 19:57

Congrats hummingbird.

To those that have had egg retrieval how did you feel after ?

I'm in pain, I can't stand up straight and it hurts to pee.

I'm getting paranoid I'll get ohss, I had 16 eggs in one ovary, they don't know how many were in the other ovary as they couldn't see it so for all I know it could have been another 16 there.

I'm honestly not that fussed about being unwell I just don't want to have egg transfer delayed.

@Hummingbird36 I'm sooo happy for you guys!!!! That's fantastic news!!! Congrats!!

@wateringcanface my last egg retrieval was painful. I was in a bit of pain. OK to pee but it's totally normal don't worry.

I have my next scan Thursday and hopefully egg retrieval for this go on 4th of November

Purpleflowers17 · 22/10/2024 20:48

@Hummingbird36 great news so happy for you both!

@wateringcanface painful for the first day but got easy. Drink loads of fluids, I drank lucozade sport and that seemed to really help. A hot water bottle as well I used for 3 days. I had 16 eggs collected so similar to you.

AnonS · 22/10/2024 21:08

@Scorbunny2 it will come, the unknowing is annoying.

@BelleCrescent I finally got through to GP, of course no appts, they told me to speak to pharmacist. Pharmacist confirmed only cream, max twice a day externally, but to see Dr still. Sod that, I was already in a queue for 56mins for them to pick up. I'll take my chance with the cream.

Scorbunny2 · 22/10/2024 22:41

Is there many here from Ireland?

Feliciacat · 23/10/2024 06:54

@Scorbunny2 I think Clairebear might be from Ireland as I think she mentioned it.

@Hummingbird36 I’m delighted to hear your update. What a relief it must be.

I’m in a taxi on the way to the clinic for a second monitoring scan to see if they can do egg collection on Friday or whether to leave it until Monday. I’m hoping it’s Friday so that I only have two more days of nasty injections!

I hope all of you have as good a day as possible. I’m realising that in IVF; every single day is eventful and important.

Scorbunny2 · 22/10/2024 22:41

Is there many here from Ireland?

@Scorbunny2 Yup I am. Think it might be just us two. And I can see it's very different in terms of timings and drugs etc from the UK ladies.
Funny we both have our DRS tomorrow and the two irish haha.

spamOFtheDAY · 23/10/2024 08:57

Urgh - my stupid brain!
4dp5dt and I had a dream I got a positive test, so I tested this morning - nothing 😞
In my last pregnancy I had dreamt I was trying to take a test, so did when I woke up and it was positive.
Why would my own head be so cruel to me!!!!
This is tough!!
Hope everyone else is ok x

@Clairebear101. Yes it's mad alright. Got my period today so body playing ball so far. What time is your scan?

wateringcanface · 23/10/2024 10:06

@spamOFtheDAY

Sorry spam, the mind is awful for torturing ourselves. Though they give you an official test date for a reason so hang on in there.

I feel much better today, I hobbled to bed practically on all 4s, and walked out of bed like a normal person! Finding the pessaries very gross, I think i preferred the jabs!

Just waiting for the call to see how many fertilised, we have been told the drop off rate with surgically received sperm is higher than average. In hind sight knowing that, it makes me a bit annoyed that they didn't persevere with retrieving eggs from both ovaries.

BelleCrescent · 23/10/2024 10:18

@AnonS That's so ridiculous! A quick call with a doctor would have been enough, it can't be that difficult to advise. I didn't bother with the GP but my clinic have just confirmed that Canesten pessary/cream are both safe and shouldn't affect the treatment.

burnttoastandtea · 23/10/2024 10:32

Hi,

I've been following this forum all month and hope you're all doing well.

I had egg collection on Saturday and everything seems to have gone quite well but unfortunately I have mild OHSS which means we're going to have to freeze all when the plan was initially to do a fresh. I am okay with that as I really don't want to get sick and hopefully it'll only delay us a month or so.

Just wondering if anyone has an OHSS tips and also, how long does it take for period to come post egg collection? I am worried mine might be a little later than expected as I did start injection for fresh transfer but I am now just on blood thinners.

kerrym87 · 23/10/2024 12:40

@burnttoastandtea I had the same and had arranged to have freeze all anyway as we were pgta testing our embryos. What advice j can give is moving around little and often helps shift fluid, keep an eye on your fluid balance...drinking is good but if you end up retaining loads it can be harmful. My clinic have me a urine jug and a fluid balance chart to record input and output as well as measuring my waist morning and evening to check it wasn't continuing to get bigger. I had blood thinners and a blood test a few days after EC. I found little meals also helped as I felt very bloated. My period came within the usual 2 weeks after ovulation (in this case egg collection) as both the collected and uncollected follicles produce progesterone which then naturally tails off. Feel free to pm me for further info

AnonS · 23/10/2024 15:15

@burnttoastandtea I suffered from mild OHSS on both my collection, the 2nd putting me off ever having another collection, as it was so painful. I just made sure I was hydrated and electrolyte levels were kept up - mainly by eating salty things. I also drank coconut water as it is a natural electrolyte. Just do over do the salt. Make your partner do everything for several days, even weeing was super painful.

@BelleCrescent I know. As well as having thrush, I have a sore throat, swollen painful glands, sore teeth and a headache. Wonderful, really not what my body needs. I was saying the only way this is acceptable is if I get that BFP next week.

@kerrym87 Thank you! Measuring my waist is a good idea actually, how long would you say it took for you to feel better? Worried I have another 10 days of this if I only feel better when my period arrives!

@AnonS I think I'm quite fortunate in that I have it quite mildly, I have no temp or huge amount of swelling but walking/peeing is quite difficult. I started taking electrolytes from egg collection as they saw fluid before collection but might pick up some coconut water too. I think because I chose to tell no one at all (other than my partner, of course) about IVF, not being about to do much and get out and about is a little harder but partner has been great and I'm hoping I'll start to feel a little better. Thanks for the advice! Fingers crossed for your BFP! x

wateringcanface · 23/10/2024 16:50

8 eggs fertilised, it's an okay number in most cases, but as it is surgically retrieved sperm that we are using we are expecting a high drop off rate from day 3 so I'm not feeling too confident, just wish they used both ovaries. What a fun week this will be waiting 😥

@Clairebear101. Yes it's mad alright. Got my period today so body playing ball so far. What time is your scan?

@Scorbunny2 my period has come and gone.
My appointment is at 11am tomorrow.

Can't wait to get the go ahead for the next injection so I can count down to egg retrieval.

Feliciacat · 23/10/2024 20:26

My monitoring scan (this is day 10) showed that I had a follicle over 20mm. So now they’re worried I might be producing progesterone from that and this could impact my chance of successful embryo transfer.

So they’ve told me to stop my FSH injections and Ovamex injections and do my trigger shots tonight. Then they’ll retrieve the eggs on Friday morning. Looks like seven follicles but anything could happen from there!
