IVF / ICSI August

I’ve looked for a thread for August but couldn’t find one? (Please feel free to correct me if I’m wrong)
We are starting a long protocol at the beginning of July ready for stims and EC in August. This is our first IVF, I’ve been infertile for 15 years due to complications during endo surgery so always knew IVF was my only option. I met my DH seven years ago and now we are ready to try our luck.

I suddenly feel quite anxious about the whole process although I’ve known it’s my only option for a long time, now I've finally actually looked into what's involved and people's experiences. I’ve had to loose 5st to get my bmi inside requirements which has been incredibly hard but I’m proud I got to this point.

I've got quite a complicated gynea history so preparing myself for a rocky ride, but I’m also thankful for my medical history because I’m already very used to those awful internal scans 🤣

@Trying4eva congratulations that’s amazing news! Loving seeing the positives.

the whole journey is so challenging hopefully speaking to them will help. My clinic don’t do bloods either, I really wish they did

GLizzie88 · 29/08/2024 09:55

@Zeeha i've had a bit more spotting today, much less than yesterday. I'm hoping that's good news but it feels quite late on, I'm 8dp5dt now. Your line definitely looks stronger today. I honestly didn't know they worked like that! @Capybara95 feeling much better today, knowing its tomorrow we'll know. The bloods are interesting, as they give your actual hcg figure. Using the counselling is a good idea, I want to do that if it is a negative tomorrow.
@Trying4eva that looks great too!!

Zeeha · 29/08/2024 09:55

@Trying4eva congratulations! That's a great line.

@Capybara95 thank you so much. Wow I've never heard of that male factor. We've only ever had the basic tests conducted. It's great they have a solution with the use of ICSI for you! Our problem is morphology is borderline. Sometimes it's 3%, other times it's 4%. As it was 4% on egg collection day we managed to avoid the extra cost of ICSI. I can't believe how much it all adds up. That does sound like a plan! Please do let us know how you get on 😊

Capybara95 · 29/08/2024 10:05

@GLizzie88 lots of people seem to have spotting for all different reasons so would try not to let it worry you too much (I know it’s much easier said than done lol). I’m 10dp5dt today so a bit ahead of you.

@Zeeha yes it’s usually quite a specific test but for some reason the NHS tested it on my husband’s first sample so luckily we knew straight away and we are also an NHS cycle so we didn’t have to pay for it. We got really lucky that the week we were due to pay for a private cycle we got a letter to say we were top of the NHS waiting list and could start within 2 months which was the same wait time as our private clinic. That’s great that you got 4% on the day.

Morning everyone! @Hat24 good luck today. The team are amazing, look after yourself later!
I've had a banging headache for the last 3 days which isn't helpful, I have an apprenticeship exam on Monday to study for and I've got too much of a headache to study! A day and a half left now until we know how it's gone.

If tablets aren't working I find that a tense machine for your head (I bought mine from Lloyds pharmacy) works wonders 🙃☺️

Natasha90 · 29/08/2024 11:02

@Trying4eva congratulations 🩷

@Zeeha it definitely looks darker xx

wishfulbean · 29/08/2024 12:43

@Zeeha that definitely looks darker which is wonderful to see

Has anyone been in quite a lot of pain after egg collection? This is my third time round and this hurts far more than it has before. Maybe they were just more... thorough... this time?

3 out of 7 of my eggs have fertilised so I'm very pleased. I'm due to get an update on Saturday but then won't hear anything until potential transfer day. Is this normal for others too? I feel this is as nerve wracking as the 2ww!

wishfulbean · 29/08/2024 12:44

Congratulations @Trying4eva so wonderful to see that nice strong positive line. Good for you taking up the counselling! I haven't yet used the sessions we get with cycles... but I'm not really sure why not!

Capybara95 · 29/08/2024 13:01

@wishfulbean this sounds like me after collection. I couldn’t really get out of bed the first day but it did get better hope you’re ok, I do think in general the more eggs you have the worse it is.

I also got an update on day 3 and then day 5 (transfer day) so I think that’s the norm. I think that’s usually when they check on them as they don’t like to open whatever it is to look in too often. Would agree the wait to hear about the embryos is definitely as bad as the 2ww but hopefully you will get good news!

wishfulbean · 29/08/2024 13:09

Thanks @Capybara95 that's how I'm feeling so thank you for sharing you felt that way too.. and sorry to hear you were also so uncomfortable!

Capybara95 · 29/08/2024 13:21

@wishfulbean thanks, hopefully will be worth all the pain for both of us soon 🤞🏼

BakinABaby · 29/08/2024 14:43

Congrats @Trying4eva that’s a solid line.

Can you guys not have an hcg test done independetly? Where I’m at there are private walk in labs, you pay a small sum (a few years ago it was 14€) and you get the results half a day later. I used that to get two readings 48h apart, helped calm my mind a bit.

Capybara95 · 29/08/2024 14:51

@BakinABaby I have looked into getting beta’s done privately but it looked to be about £150, would much rather the €14! lol. I actually think my GP might do them if I asked, the receptionist just kind of puts through whatever I’ve asked for in the past tbh

Lil89 · 29/08/2024 15:17

What does the HCG test show? Sorry complete newbie here and feel like I'm asking more questions that answering for others 😂🤷🏻‍♀️

BakinABaby · 29/08/2024 15:33

@Capybara95 oh wow, ok yeah that’s a bit pricey.

BakinABaby · 29/08/2024 15:35

@Lil89 it gives you your blood hcg reading. The number itselt is not too important unless it’s single digits but it should about double in 48h for a viable pregnancy.

Oh! Is that what turns the pregnancy test positive?

Yes.

Capybara95 · 29/08/2024 21:02

My lower back is really sore tonight, hope that’s not a bad thing!

GLizzie88 · 30/08/2024 06:16

@Capybara95 I did for the first couple of days after et. It's blood test day today. Don't find out the result until this afternoon but getting ready for hospital now. I've had loads of symptoms but they're ALL progesterone side effects so I'm not holding out much hope. I've been spotting for the last 3 days now too.

Hat24 · 30/08/2024 07:38

@GLizzie88 best best best of luck!!

EC went ok yesterday. We got 10 egga and are waiting for the call this morning to see how many were mature/fertilised 🤞

Capybara95 · 30/08/2024 07:52

@GLizzie88 good luck for the results!!

@Hat24 hope you’re feeling ok today after collection and hope you get good news about fertilisation today!

GLizzie88 · 30/08/2024 08:06

@Hat24 how are you feeling today? Are you feeling OK @Capybara95 ?
Thanks ladies. All done now, just to wait at home to make the call this afternoon now! It's a drop in phlebotomy service so we just went for as soon as it opened to get it done. Eek.

Hat24 · 30/08/2024 08:12

@GLizzie88 yeah I feel ok. Just found out that only 4 fertilised which feels like a kick in the teeth after that ordeal.

Well done for getting the test done nice and early. I hope you can do something nice until you find out!!

Capybara95 · 30/08/2024 09:11

@GLizzie88 yes I’m ok thanks just some slight cramping but only one more day to go until find out. So nervous. Such random timing as well our maternity policy in work was really bad and I have been complaining about it and my manager has just told me when I went in this morning that it’s been updated to 6 months full pay.

that’s good you’ve the test all done now, good luck!! Hopefully they don’t take too long to come through.

sorry to hear you’re a bit disappointed @Hat24 bit you’ve still got 4 going strong and it only takes 1!
