BFP after IVF - anyone want to join me in the wait for first scan?

Sensitive

Hi everyone,
I’ve just had our first cycle of IVF and although we had very slim odds of it working (low AMH, low AFC, male factor, which led to only 2 mature eggs which thankfully led to one perfect day 5 blast). We are absolutely amazed and over the moon that it worked despite everything, but I am really struggling with the wait for first scan. I almost feel with infertility (we TTC for 6/7 years) that it does make you anxious and I’m finding the wait to my first scan (6th June) unbearable. I don’t want to seem ungrateful but I really wish I could enjoy it or relax a little but instead I am worrying about miscarriage and things I can’t control. For me this has been the worst bit of IVF so far, and I’d love to just be able to be happy so I don’t look back (if it does work) and wish that I hadn’t been so anxious and scared.

Is anyone else in the same boat who wants to keep me company? 🥹 Or can provide some tips on how to distract myself and cope better? I know there’s nothing I can do to change the outcome and what will be will be, but I don’t think I’ve ever worried so much in my life.

Thank you 🙏

Welcome @Vian67 congratulations on your bfp. Hope you're doing ok.

@HopefulllHolly @LouP87 will wish you both the best of luck for your scans tomorrow!! (As I don't think I'll get a chance in the morning). Really hope it's good news for you both.

I'm still spotting (albeit brown / pink) and very crampy today. I feel like it's going to be bad news for me tomorrow but maybe that's just my brains way of protecting me and preparing me for the worst!

HopefulllHolly · 05/06/2024 17:59

Thanks @DippyDuck19! Very very nervous. I really hope yours goes ok too, keep us posted. Going to be an anxious night for us all tonight.

Good luck tomorrow too @LouP87

@TorrentialHighSeas How are you doing? Did the bleeding stop and did you speak to the EPU? Hope you’re ok!

Thank you @DippyDuck19 all the luck for you and @HopefulllHolly too.

I’m hedging my bets also due to all the brown/pink spotting, pretty much constant since 22nd May…holding on to no cramps or pain though.

Fluffyted · 05/06/2024 18:35

Good luck to all of you who are having your scans tomorrow!!!

just 1 more sleep 🙌🏼 x

Vian67 · 06/06/2024 07:49

I have exactly a week to go until mine 😣
@DippyDuck19 my OH is also working away stupid boy! 😁 he is back this evening then away again First thing Monday until Wednesday eve back early for scan next Thursday!

glad I found this group too also had some spotting on Tuesday although very light and brown I still presumed game over now terrified everytime I have to pee, which is a lot! And not even a symptom I always have to pee a lot 🤪

I am 6 weeks 3 days today and crossing everything that all is still well and that the next week doesn’t drag too much!

I also keep missing relies because I get an email saying there has been a post read it, get another come on and it’s same response then don’t get one jus pop on and have missed loads 😡

Vian67 · 06/06/2024 07:52

Also what’s everyone’s chosen go to for their pregnancy vitamins?

love to know how old everyone is and what area your in too! It’s mad how different where you are can make your experience so different!

I’m 39 (only just! Be still so old!) and in North Yorkshire

HopefulllHolly · 06/06/2024 08:04

@Vian67 I’m on pregnancy vitamins now but the nurse said to me I don’t need to change over until I finished my conception ones, but I decided to anyway.

I’m 37 (38 in September) and am in West Yorkshire so not far from you. I want to have the baby in Harrogate (where I was born ☺️) xx

I’m TERRIFIED for my scan 😞 it’s all black and gloomy outside which doesn’t feel like a good omen. Prayers the baby is still growing away in there. I’m so scared.

@Vian67 this group is fab isn’t it! So helpful & calming and like having a little groups of friends, even though we’ve never met!
I don’t get any notifications or emails so I keep missing every update & reply unless I check online 😂 I must have set it up wrong 🙈

ohhh this is a great idea! I’m 34 & in Bristol.

@HopefulllHolly awww lovely, it’s a nerve wracking experience... I’m sending you so much positive vibes!! I really hope it goes well & your little baby is growing beautifully & in the perfect position... what time is your scan today? X

HopefulllHolly · 06/06/2024 10:16

Thanks all. Scan was perfect. I started crying before I even lay down! Saw the heartbeat flickering away and have graduated from the clinic. 😭🥹🥹🥹 can’t believe it! 🥹

LouP87 · 06/06/2024 10:40

Now I can concentrate 😂

so the spotting has been explained - I have a synchronic haemotoma just underneath the gestational sac, it’s really small apparently and nothing to worry about. Measuring exactly 8 weeks as should be, little heartbeat flickering at 171bpm.

we’re off to tell my parents now, telling his parents tomorrow!

also, using the vitamins I got free at my booking appointment with the midwife!

AnnieStar12 · 06/06/2024 10:41

@LouP87 what wonderful news, you must be delighted. Enjoy telling the grandparents x

AnnieStar12 · 06/06/2024 10:47

My anxiety has gone through the roof this morning. I’ve been able to keep it in check until
today, but I’m just in a bit of a state this morning. I still have absolutely no symptoms at all, nothing!

Im tempted to go buy another pregnancy test to make sure I’m still pregnant- is that mad?! I’ve not tested since Saturday as I didn’t want to give myself anything to stress over. But my god, this phase waiting for the first scan is horrendous!

HopefulllHolly · 06/06/2024 10:50

@AnnieStar12 I don’t have any symptoms and I told the nurses this and they said that’s fine, everyone is different and if you don’t have any you’re lucky. So be positive and just think it must be a happy healthy little baby that’s all. They also said symptoms come and go ☺️ If you want to test again then do, but frankly they made me more anxious than if I’d not tested.

Are you still having a scan next week?

OP posts:
HopefulllHolly · 06/06/2024 10:52

@LouP87 I don’t have any bleeding but the nurses just said to me about haematomas and said not to worry and that bleeds are very common. They said it’s like having a bruise in your uterus.

Our clinic don’t measure heart rate or anything, I did ask. But measurements are all perfect and the heart was flickering away so that’s all I care about! Off to book a private scan in a couple of weeks and register with a midwife. Eeeeek!

Fluffyted · 06/06/2024 10:59

@HopefulllHolly yesssss!!! That’s amazing news … I’m so chuffed for you. So glad all is well & baby is perfect in there. The fluttering heartbeat is just the best thing to see isn’t it. Congratulations!! 💞

@LouP87 yay!! Awww I’m so happy for you … congratulations!! 💞I’m so glad the spotting has been explained for you & it’s nothing at all to worry about. Exciting times telling yours & his parents!! i bet there will be lots of happy tears 🥲

@AnnieStar12 awww I’m sure you have nothing at all to worry about. My symptoms come & go as they please each day. Maybe you are super lucky and got away with not morning sickness & everything else!!
its so hard it enjoy this time isn’t it … the anxiety is unreal!

Vitamins - I’m taking the pregnacare pregnancy ones.
I’ve contacted the midwife team last Friday - we have to do it online here so waiting for them to contact me to get me all booked in (even this wait is loooonnng! lol)

I haven’t thought about booking a private scan but that’s a fab idea! x

LouP87 · 06/06/2024 11:34

@AnnieStar12 its so hard isn’t it, who would have thought we’d want sickness, sore boobs etc! I’m a big fan of doing whatever you need to do to keep the anxiety at bay, testing is hard one though because it can be so unreliable!

@HopefulllHolly i already booked another scan for 23rd June 😂 I needed a date sooner than the 12 week one on 6th July!

AnnieStar12 · 06/06/2024 11:42

@LouP87 yes I totally agree about doing whatever we need to manage anxiety.
I have already planned to have a scan at 5+4, 6+5 and 7+4. And I’ve got my 12 weeks scan appointment on 24th July.
I know that I probably seem mad, but having scans booked in is what I need to get through. Guess that’s what two miscarriages can do to you! I’m normally a very rationale person and don’t get anxiety in general.

Genuinely don't know how I'm going to make it through to the 19th eeeek!
