BFP after IVF - anyone want to join me in the wait for first scan?

Sensitive

Hi everyone,
I’ve just had our first cycle of IVF and although we had very slim odds of it working (low AMH, low AFC, male factor, which led to only 2 mature eggs which thankfully led to one perfect day 5 blast). We are absolutely amazed and over the moon that it worked despite everything, but I am really struggling with the wait for first scan. I almost feel with infertility (we TTC for 6/7 years) that it does make you anxious and I’m finding the wait to my first scan (6th June) unbearable. I don’t want to seem ungrateful but I really wish I could enjoy it or relax a little but instead I am worrying about miscarriage and things I can’t control. For me this has been the worst bit of IVF so far, and I’d love to just be able to be happy so I don’t look back (if it does work) and wish that I hadn’t been so anxious and scared.

Is anyone else in the same boat who wants to keep me company? 🥹 Or can provide some tips on how to distract myself and cope better? I know there’s nothing I can do to change the outcome and what will be will be, but I don’t think I’ve ever worried so much in my life.

Thank you 🙏

Scan went well!!! Measuring 4 days ahead so now 13+2 with new due date of 14th Jan.
Baby was face down at first so sonographer made me get into all sorts of positions to get him to flip up the right way. He was then wriggling about soo much and scratching his head, it was difficult to get some good photos.
NT measuring was 1.8mm so just waiting for screening results now which can take up to 2 weeks. I also have an anterior placement so might be later before I feel any movements. Such a relief!!!

@oliviagrace2307 I suffer with bad reflux and heartburn and have been chugging gaviscon. You can take omeprazole too (as I normally take this pre-pregnancy). I checked with midwife and she said it was ok.

@DippyDuck19 Amazing! Scan is beautiful 😍 Bet you’re so relieved! I was waiting for your post on tenterhooks! 🥹 Cheeky little boy moving around everywhere. So pleased for you, hope you can relax and enjoy the feeling of seeing him all happy and healthy in there. Feels really surreal doesn’t it? Sending big hugs xx

@DippyDuck19 congrats!! Gorgeous scan photo!! Glad all went so positively for you

DippyDuck19 · 11/07/2024 11:41

@HopefulllHolly I feel a little more excited! I don't know how long that will last though!!!
The sonographer was soo good explaining everything as he was scanning. Literally went over every body part and said it was all looking good for this stage. I've heard some bad things about NHS scans being grumpy and not saying much so I feel a little more reassured.

Baby was doing somersaults throughout and it's so weird that you can't feel it!!!

We are telling our extended families today too!

DippyDuck19 · 11/07/2024 11:42

@Edf Thank you 💕

summerchild92 · 11/07/2024 11:52

@lemonyfox how far along are you now? 🥰 I think we’re very close together. I’m 5w + 3 today and tomorrow is my first scan. Hope I don’t have to wait until week 10-12 for the next one then 🫣🫣🫣

lemonyfox · 11/07/2024 11:55

@summerchild92 I'm only 4+5 today, but because I'm a psycho at early testing I've known I was pregnant since 4dp5dt. So it feels like I should be about 6-7 weeks now 😂 that's really good you're getting a scan so early, I bet you can't wait!

HopefulllHolly · 11/07/2024 12:29

@DippyDuck19 Awwww have a lovely time telling your family. We had so much fun telling a few people yesterday. So nice how excited everyone is! And amazing you had such a nice sonographer too, it makes such a difference. Ours yesterday was lovely too, he was making jokes and pointing out all different things and it really helped relax us both. I think our little lady is a lazy girl - she didn’t move a huge amount (and didn’t at the last scan either). I’m hoping she’s a sleeper like her dad is/was. He basically slept solidly for his first 9 months! 😂😂

I’ve decided to keep myself busy by creating a big spreadsheet for everything we need for the baby and costing it all up. My parents are buying the pram for us which is lovely as it’s the most expensive thing on the list 😂 But still - it all adds up! I’m on 3k and not even on anything beyond the bigger items. There’s some things I’ll buy second hand like a bouncer but I think most will be new. It’s definitely keeping my mind busy though! 😊

@lemonyfox exciting! Two more weeks to wait! Hopefully it goes quickly but like you I tested silly early and it felt like it was forever to my first scan at 7 weeks! My only advice would be to keep yourself as busy as humanly possible 🤣🤣

@oliviagrace2307 aww bless you, that sounds horrendous!!! I'd deffo try and get some help from the GP is possible.
I'm also on omeprazole (was pre-pregnancy too) which I do think helps for heartburn. And I'm taking orange flavoured Rennie tablets too (I can't have gaviscone) but these work well & the midwife said they are safe to take.

@DippyDuck19 awww your baby scan pic 😍 I'm so glad it went well & your little baby is growing perfectly!! It's such an exciting time.

DippyDuck19 · 11/07/2024 12:38

@HopefulllHolly I'm on a WhatsApp group with others due in January and those that are on their 2nd/3rd pregnancy are saying those that were active in the womb are active outside 🤦🏻‍♀️ think I might have my hand full with a crazy little boy!!!

My DPs parents are separated so his mum is buying us the car seat and his dad the pram. My parent are buying nursery furniture. The most expensive things I need to buy is the next to me crib and bouncer (I like the nuna leaf - which is expensive so might see if I can get second hand). Although now I feel like I'm missing something big off my list. My DP always says I have expensive taste. But I feel like if we're only doing this once then I'm happy to spend the money!

DippyDuck19 · 11/07/2024 12:38

@Fluffyted thank you 💕

@lemonyfox I’m honestly so nervous. I keep worrying it’s not in the right place … or that there will be no heartbeat once I get to 6-7weeks. I just can’t wait for third trimester hahahah

lemonyfox · 11/07/2024 12:44

@summerchild92 I totally get it, it's so nerve wracking.

Hey don't wish too hard for the 3rd trimester just yet. Everything hurts 😂 the second trimester is the nice easy golden one to look forward to, I'm counting down my days til that one!

AnnieStar12 · 11/07/2024 13:07

@DippyDuck19 congratulations! And you got 4 days knocked off the countdown which is a bonus, haha! You must be so relieved.

@lemonyfox yeah I just want to get past 12 weeks with clear tests and then I’ll be happy. I like to think I’ll be calmer and able to enjoy it if I can get to that stage!

13 days to go till my 12 week scan. I really don’t know how I’m going to stay sane until then!

Edf · 11/07/2024 13:10

@DippyDuck19 whete did you come across a WhatsApp group for jan die date is you don’t mind me asking?

trying to figure out what I need new vs reusing, we got the car seat as part of the pram travel system so managed to save a bit there, and good that the car seat could fit into the pram base in the super early days. I’m attempting potty training from tomorrow to try and eliminate the number of bums i need to wipe come jan

DippyDuck19 · 11/07/2024 13:15

@AnnieStar12 Thank you! Very relieved! Need to get my head round the new dates!

@Edf There's a couple on here from the due January group on the pregnancy board.

HopefulllHolly · 11/07/2024 13:32

@DippyDuck19 One of the benefits of separated parents I guess! I’m hoping my partners dad will buy the cot and bedroom furniture but not fussed if he doesn’t - he keeps suggesting ikea for it and I’ve vetoed it. I too have expensive taste 🤣🤣 The most expensive things on my list are pram, car seat (getting a different one to the one that you can get with pram because I’ve read reviews on it and it doesn’t sound amazing), bedroom stuff, Moses basket for our room, baby monitor, bouncer and sling. Everything else is under £100 so not too bad if bought over the next 6 months really. I won’t be buying myself clothes like I usually do that’s for sure! Would much rather buy the stuff I want for a baby as we’ll only do it once and honestly I have all the stuff I need. Excited to actually buy for someone else as my wages always just go on me and my partner. 😊 Exciting!

Congrats @DippyDuck19 beautiful scan pic! 😍💕

I am not long home from my booking appointment with the midwife who was lovely. They took a lot of blood at the end and I am a bit exhausted from all of the questions. But made everything feel a bit more real to get to this stage now! 🙏🏻💜 She told me that the nausea I am struggling with is likely my blood sugar levels dipping so advised having a packet of sweets/chocolates on hand at all times to pop one in when needed! I will try anything so picked up a big bag of haribo on the way home 🤣 I never usually eat sweets, felt so weird haha!

Fluffyted · 11/07/2024 18:21

@DogMummy87 amazing! Glad it went well for you! I found that sour sweets really helped with nausea, I don't know why as I usually never choose sour sweets! Very weird but like you I was willing to do anything so I've been buying a sharing bag weekly but eating them myself 😂 I'm really hoping it stops in the second trimester as I feel sorry for the teeth at the moment! lol
breadsticks also work for me but harder to carry around in my bag lol

DogMummy87 · 11/07/2024 18:26

@Fluffyted yes, I ate a whole packet of the tangy haribo the other day and devoured them!! 🤣 So weird the things that help...but very true about the teeth! I actually need to book a dentist check-up after talking to the midwife today. I get really anxious going to the dentist usually so tend to avoid unless I have an issue 😫

RunningOnHope · 12/07/2024 22:10

Hi everyone just checking in, lovely to see some beautiful scan pics! Our 12 week scan isn't until 30th July but DW called the GP today as she's getting pelvic girdle pain already and needs referring to a physio - she had it in last pregnancy but this is very early for it to start. Anyway GP referred to EPU and EPU want to scan because they do for all abdominal pain apparently. So hopefully we'll get a scan on Wednesday at 10+2 and then assuming all is well, we're going to tell our 3 y/o daughter next weekend. (We're then going on holiday and preschool will be done for the summer so not much chance for her to tell anyone before 12 weeks!)

Of all the people I can't wait to tell, it's her I'm looking forward to the most 🥰

@RunningOnHope We’ve moved on to here now!
Sorry your partner has lots of pain! Hope it’s just normal and she’s getting it quicker because of it being number 2? And so exciting you’re telling your little one soon! I bet she’s going to be very excited to have a little brother or sister. ☺️
