BFP after IVF - anyone want to join me in the wait for first scan?

Sensitive

Hi everyone,
I’ve just had our first cycle of IVF and although we had very slim odds of it working (low AMH, low AFC, male factor, which led to only 2 mature eggs which thankfully led to one perfect day 5 blast). We are absolutely amazed and over the moon that it worked despite everything, but I am really struggling with the wait for first scan. I almost feel with infertility (we TTC for 6/7 years) that it does make you anxious and I’m finding the wait to my first scan (6th June) unbearable. I don’t want to seem ungrateful but I really wish I could enjoy it or relax a little but instead I am worrying about miscarriage and things I can’t control. For me this has been the worst bit of IVF so far, and I’d love to just be able to be happy so I don’t look back (if it does work) and wish that I hadn’t been so anxious and scared.

Is anyone else in the same boat who wants to keep me company? 🥹 Or can provide some tips on how to distract myself and cope better? I know there’s nothing I can do to change the outcome and what will be will be, but I don’t think I’ve ever worried so much in my life.

Thank you 🙏

@ThePeachGoose Sorry you’re having to go through this, but sounds like it’s likely okay. what time will EPU see you? I wonder why a&e didn’t just scan you!
If it’s any help, I bled huge clots while pregnant with DD with fresh red blood - baby was totally fine. First they thought heamatoma, but then found a polyp was the real cause. I hope they find the cause for the bleed with you. They’ll hopefully see a lot more in the scan.

DippyDuck19 · 10/07/2024 08:46

@HopefulllHolly good luck for your scan today!

@ThePeachGoose How are you doing? hoping you get some answers today. What time are you going to the EPU?

ThePeachGoose · 10/07/2024 08:47

@AnnieStar12 that is a huge help actually. I need all the stories in the world where women have red heavy bleeding with huge clots and the baby is fine 😆 I do have a history of uterine polyps too so🤞🏻the a&e was a bit scattered last night but they told me I’m booked at the EPU and I can go any time from 9? I’m not sure that that’s how appointments work, and I don’t have much trust in them after they forgot to discharge me for 40 mins, so I’ll call ahead at 9, before making the journey

@HopefulllHolly @DippyDuck19 I’ve just gotten out of bed so hard to say, but I’m still bleeding lightly I think, with tiny clots. And I feel scared ofc, but only the scan can tell what is happening. I’ll go as soon as the EPU confirms that they can see me and I’m hoping for the best as well, a haematoma or a polyp 🤷🏻‍♀️ the two good things here are that I don’t have any cramping and I still have all my symptoms today (sore breasts, nausea etc) so that’s what i can hang my hope on.

I’ll let you all know how it goes and fingers crossed for your scan today @HopefulllHolly

AnnieStar12 · 10/07/2024 09:33

@ThePeachGoose not sure what hospital you’re at, but my local EPU is just a walk-in from 9am so maybe yours is like that too? Thinking of you x

@HopefulllHolly 2 hours to go!! Hope all goes well and you have a nice day afterwards, I think I remember you saying you’ve taken the day off work?

ThePeachGoose · 10/07/2024 09:38

@AnnieStar12 King’s EPU is the closest and they say on their website to call their line, have an assessment over the phone and then they’ll tell you when to come in. And since I didn’t get a specific time from A&E, I decided to call so that they can let me know when to go in, as I don’t want to wait for another 4 hours in a hospital. I can also see online that a&e haven’t actually made an appointment for me, they just made a referral 🤦🏻‍♀️ so I need to wait and see what the EPU tell me to do. I’m next in line on the phone so hopefully I can go see them soon 🤞🏻

Scan was amazing. Little lady was sleeping and sucking her thumb. Had a lovely sonographer who played the heartbeat too. Magical! So happy she’s ok 🥹🥹🥹 Going to tell my parents what we’re having now after we see the consultant. Excited and very emotional. Picture is of her with her thumb in her mouth ☺️

Beautiful ❤@HopefulllHolly you're out of the danger zone now, big congrats! You're past the crucial 12 weeks so hopefully you can try and enjoy the pregnancy a bit more now and start to think of names and prams and baby clothes and all the fun stuff! xx

ThePeachGoose · 10/07/2024 12:41

OMG big congrats @HopefulllHolly I think it’s so adorable that she’s sucking on her thumb there and congratulations for making it out of the danger zone!

ThePeachGoose · 10/07/2024 12:43

Happy news from me too! It was just a haematoma as many of you had predicted, and quite a big one, 4 cm still in there so might get more bleeding and clots. Baby is fine measuring 6 weeks and 2 days (pretty bang on) and heart ticking away nicely at 120.

Thank you everyone for your support! 🙌🏻 I couldn’t do all this without you.

Edf · 10/07/2024 12:48

@HopefulllHolly awww toooo cute!! Love the thumb sucking! Congrats!

@ThePeachGoose im soo glad to hear all is ok! What a relief for you!! And lovely you saw the little heart flickering away 🥰

Natty2 · 10/07/2024 12:52

LouP87 · 10/07/2024 12:54

Amazing news @ThePeachGoose so happy to hear all is ok!

@HopefulllHolly gorgeous scan pic!

Fluffyted · 10/07/2024 13:03

@oliviagrace2307 thank you.. I'm due on 12th Jan, luckily we all have missed the Christmas period!!
Did you have an elective c-section or emergency one for your DS?
That giving birth part scares me but I'm trying not to think about it! 😂 it's gotta come out somehow.

@ThePeachGoose omg!! You poor thing - it's sounds like you had a very dramatic & eventful time. I'm so glad it's nothing to be concerned about baby wise!! Do they know why you're having what's causing it?
Awww so glad your little baby is growing perfectly!! I hope you can relax for the rest of the day & take it easy.

@Natty2 8 weeks!! How are you feeling? The waiting is such a chore I find, it drags & drags!! Hoping the rest of all our pregnancies doesn't seem sooooo long.

@HopefulllHolly awww your little baby girl 🩷 I'm so happy for you that it all went well and your baby is doing perfectly! How cute that's she's sucking her thumb 🥺 what a lovely scan picture!

Leaf86 · 10/07/2024 13:03

Congratulations @HopefulllHolly ❤️ Huge milestone! And beautiful scan picture.

@ThePeachGoose very relieved for you! Hopefully it gets reabsorbed into the body in the next couple of weeks and doesn’t cause you too much bother.

ThePeachGoose · 10/07/2024 13:06

@Fluffyted the doctor said that they don’t really know what causes them but they seem them more often in IVF pregnancies because we’re so aware we’re pregnant and coming in for scans to check sooner 🤷🏻‍♀️

AnnieStar12 · 10/07/2024 13:08

@ThePeachGoose what a relief! SO pleased for you. x

ThePeachGoose · 10/07/2024 13:11

Thank you so much for your reassuring message @AnnieStar12 🙌🏻

DippyDuck19 · 10/07/2024 13:17

@ThePeachGoose great news that your little one is ok and has a strong heartbeat! It's reassuring you have a reason for the bleeding and hopefully the haematoma gets reabsorbed quickly!!

@HopefulllHolly so pleased that your little girl is doing well and you are out the danger zone!!! Hopefully this will put you more at ease. Such a cute little picture sucking her thumb too! She looks very comfy in there!

HopefulllHolly · 10/07/2024 14:27

Thank you all! 🥹🥹 It was magic! Can’t believe we’re having a baby. My mum was so shocked it’s a girl too, she’s very excited. Busy phoning all her friends already bless her ☺️ Can’t wait for yours now @DippyDuck19 not long now!

@ThePeachGoose Ah that’s amazing news! At my 7 week scan at the clinic they pointed out a haematoma and said I could get some bleeding. Basically described it as a bruise which makes sense for ivf because of all the poking.

HopefulllHolly · 10/07/2024 14:30

@DippyDuck19 Yeah the sonographer said she looked to be asleep as she wasn’t moving much until I jiggled about a lot. Took ages to measure her but measuring one day ahead bang on 12 weeks. Hopefully she’s a chilled out little girl 😊

Beautiful news @HopefulllHolly so lovely to see your little girl and know everything is as it should be. What a relief for you - really hope you can relax now and try to enjoy it all as much as possible! 🥰💜

And such a relief for you too @ThePeachGoose so pleased it was something they could explain and all is well with the little one! 💕

I have my booking appointment tomorrow afternoon and a private reassurance scan booked for next Friday morning (will be nearly 10 weeks then). But honestly, all I can focus on at the moment is the nausea. It is becoming quite draining in lots of ways...especially coupled with fatigue. Hoping it is a positive sign that things are developing as they should be 🤞🏻🙏🏻 I also feel like all I do is moan and complain at the moment which I feel so guilty about as still overjoyed to be pregnant. It is a very confusing time!! 😜🤣🤦🏻‍♀️

jas1996 · 10/07/2024 18:28

SO happy for you @HopefulllHolly, such a cute scan pic too! 🥰🥰 Now the fun can really begin!

@ThePeachGoose So sorry to hear about your scare, but so happy everything has turned out ok. Think you’re exactly a week ahead of me so we’re near enough synced up🤞

HopefulllHolly · 10/07/2024 18:53

@DogMummy87 Thank you! ☺️ You poor thing not feeling well - hope it doesn’t last long for you. Must be really rubbish. I only had nausea and it isn’t as bad as yours but still really annoying. I just leave my hob nob crumbs everywhere as only small amounts of food helps it. So exciting for your scan too! That’s not long at all - I feel like 10 weeks to 12 weeks went more quickly than the wait for the first scan. And booking appointment feels surreal (in fact all of it feels very surreal even still! I keep feeling like someone’s going to wake me up and it’s all been a dream!). Really hope the sickness passes soon and you can start enjoying it more. Good luck for your midwife tomorrow!

Thanks @jas1996 a little relief until the next milestone or baby movement - whichever comes first. Going to try and hold off from another private scan now until 15 weeks if I can. No idea if I’ll manage it 🤣

@DippyDuck19 Good luck for your scan tomorrow. Can’t wait to see your picture and hear all about baby’s antics! 😍
