BFP after IVF - anyone want to join me in the wait for first scan?

Sensitive

Hi everyone,
I’ve just had our first cycle of IVF and although we had very slim odds of it working (low AMH, low AFC, male factor, which led to only 2 mature eggs which thankfully led to one perfect day 5 blast). We are absolutely amazed and over the moon that it worked despite everything, but I am really struggling with the wait for first scan. I almost feel with infertility (we TTC for 6/7 years) that it does make you anxious and I’m finding the wait to my first scan (6th June) unbearable. I don’t want to seem ungrateful but I really wish I could enjoy it or relax a little but instead I am worrying about miscarriage and things I can’t control. For me this has been the worst bit of IVF so far, and I’d love to just be able to be happy so I don’t look back (if it does work) and wish that I hadn’t been so anxious and scared.

Is anyone else in the same boat who wants to keep me company? 🥹 Or can provide some tips on how to distract myself and cope better? I know there’s nothing I can do to change the outcome and what will be will be, but I don’t think I’ve ever worried so much in my life.

Thank you 🙏

Congratulations @DippyDuck19 !

DippyDuck19 · 02/07/2024 10:48

Thanks everyone! Chinese prediction and Ramzi theory were right! Feeling very real now!
Just debating when to tell family! My sister wants me to bake a gender reveal cake! Think we'll keep it to ourselves until we've had confirmation on the scan too! Will probably book a scan at 16 weeks as the wait between 12 and 20 weeks seems too long!

HopefulllHolly · 02/07/2024 10:56

@DippyDuck19 So cute! Both my Ramzi and Chinese prediction say girl and that totally baffles me because I’m convinced it’s a boy (and tbh I can’t imagine having a little girl whatsoever - I’ve always seen myself with a boy!). Hope we don’t have to wait long to find out. I’m definitely booking a 16 week scan - 4 weeks is too long to wait for sure.

@HopefulllHolly did you opt in to be told with your NIPT? When do you think you'll get your results?

I've always wanted a boy but more recently would have preferred a girl! But I think that's only because me and DP don't agree on boy names. At least we have 5-6 months to throw around some ideas.

HopefulllHolly · 02/07/2024 12:10

@DippyDuck19 Yeah getting them with the nipt so should be sometime this week. Going to buy something to tell my other half the gender when he’s back, first purchase (will only be booties or something). Trying not to think about the nipt but excited for the sex!

Definitely stuck on both sex names - we have a long list for girls and a short one for boys but when I look at them I don’t like many that much! Will definitely just keep thinking - I don’t think you really know until you see them either. One of our girls names is my mums name (Penelope) and the other is a name I’ve liked forever which is Irish (like my partner). But who knows! I can’t make my mind up on anything at the moment so definitely will be going back and forth for the next 6 months 🤣🤣

@DippyDuck19 ooh exciting, getting real now!

Edf · 02/07/2024 13:46

@DippyDuck19 how exciting! Congrats!! Does it make it feel more real?

DippyDuck19 · 02/07/2024 14:09

@Edf definitely feeling more real. Been looking for more names to add to my list! Trying not to get too carried away but certainly easier to picture the future once he's here now we know what we're having ☺️

Leaf86 · 02/07/2024 14:30

Congratulations @DippyDuck19 !

Thanks all for the positive messages. We had a good scan today - baby is still measuring on track and they checked a few things which were all normal / reassuring (apparently!). Baby was very active today and we could see arms and legs waving and kicking - crazy the change from 8 weeks. We had the NIPT test and I think it’s likely results will be back early next week. Nervous for those, but just trying to take it one hurdle at a time. We have also opted to learn the baby’s sex, am sure it will feel more real then too. My partner thinks girl, but given I have only ever been pregnant with boys (and symptoms so similar) that I think probably boy.

HopefulllHolly · 02/07/2024 14:34

@Leaf86 Yay! So pleased everything went ok and you saw the little one moving around. When’s your 12 week scan? Definitely easier to take one baby step at a time. My midwife reassured me today that having good scans at 7 and 9.5 weeks was a very positive sign that everything would be fine at the 12 week scan, made me feel much better hearing it from a professional who sees lots of babies and things. My other half says I sound happy and positive today for the first time (feel sad that he’s noticed I’m a ball of anxiety!).
And you have a 50/50 chance on boy or girl - just because you’ve had boys previously doesn’t mean this one isn’t a little lady! ☺️

@HopefulllHolly so pleased some of your anxiety has eased, that’s amazing. It should get better and better as time goes on. Yes - you’re right of course - it’s definitely 50/50 and we would be 100% happy with either sex. ❤️ 12 week scan will be some time w/c 22 July I think, not sure on date yet. Aaages away!

HopefulllHolly · 02/07/2024 15:22

@Leaf86 Sorry I did know that! You told me the other day!!
Yeah I’m glad I feel more positive today, I’m making a real effort to be hopeful and I know that worrying and anxiety will only ruin the most special time in the world that I’ve longed for for so long, and won’t change the outcome. So I just need to lean in to it. Started a little mood board on Pinterest for the nursery for when we are further along and can get started with it. ☺️ It’s kept me busy and mind focussed on the future rather than be stuck worrying.

@Leaf86 oh that is fantastic, I'm so pleased for you! Hope the results come back looking good. After those, you have one more scan and hopefully you can breathe a little bit easier

HopefulllHolly · 02/07/2024 18:26

I think your scan is tomorrow isn’t it @DogMummy87? If so hope it all goes well! 🥰

It is!! @HopefulllHolly finally here! At 8:30am tomorrow. Thanks so much for remembering 🥰💜 feeling very anxious about it but hoping all will be okay! 🤞🏻🙏🏻 Sorry just trying to catch up on the chat now myself as had such a busy few days in work and felt so nauseous the last while it is making everything that little bit trickier. 😜😫🤣

DogMummy87 · 02/07/2024 18:43

Congratulations @DippyDuck19 and @Leaf86 so pleased for you both 😍💕💜

DippyDuck19 · 02/07/2024 18:50

@Leaf86 so glad your scan went well today! It's amazing how much they change within a short space of time!

@DogMummy87 thank you! Good luck for your scan tomorrow x

HopefulllHolly · 02/07/2024 18:54

Sure it will all be amazing @DogMummy87 ❤️ deep breaths! I cried my eyes out at my first one from relief. At least it’s lovely and early tomorrow, one more sleep. And hope the sickness calms down soon for you.

PS it’s my fur baby’s 3rd birthday today, just made him a sirloin steak for dinner which is a huge triumph especially given I can’t stand the sight of red meat at the moment, let alone the smell! 🤣

@DippyDuck19 congratsss … that’s so lovely! 🥰🥰🥰🍀

Thanks everyone for being so nice. I have my beta on Friday … keeping my fingers crossed everything goes well.

ThePeachGoose · 02/07/2024 19:55

@summerchild92 I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed for you! I found it so stressful to wait around all day waiting for the results 🤦🏻‍♀️ Are you doing the repeat ones too after 48 hours?

HopefulllHolly · 02/07/2024 20:15

I just got my NIPT results!! 😭😭😭😭 Everything came back low risk, I’m so so so relieved.

And…we’re having a little girl. I CANNOT BELIEVE IT!

Youre the first people I’ve told about the sex! 🥹🥹🥹🥹 I am sooooo shocked!!

summerchild92 · 02/07/2024 20:30

Awww @HopefulllHolly congratulations! Little girl 🥰🥰 so exciting!

@ThePeachGoose i think they only make you get a repeat test if beta is low. I’ll see … perhaps I’ll pay out of my own pocket and do a second test 2-3 days later.

ThePeachGoose · 02/07/2024 20:36

@HopefulllHolly omg congratulations!!! Good news all-round today! So happy for you! Also, I’m starting to believe in these Ramzi and Chinese prediction tools now 😂

@summerchild92 every clinic has its own protocols for sure. Let us know how it goes
