BFP after IVF - anyone want to join me in the wait for first scan?

Sensitive

Hi everyone,
I’ve just had our first cycle of IVF and although we had very slim odds of it working (low AMH, low AFC, male factor, which led to only 2 mature eggs which thankfully led to one perfect day 5 blast). We are absolutely amazed and over the moon that it worked despite everything, but I am really struggling with the wait for first scan. I almost feel with infertility (we TTC for 6/7 years) that it does make you anxious and I’m finding the wait to my first scan (6th June) unbearable. I don’t want to seem ungrateful but I really wish I could enjoy it or relax a little but instead I am worrying about miscarriage and things I can’t control. For me this has been the worst bit of IVF so far, and I’d love to just be able to be happy so I don’t look back (if it does work) and wish that I hadn’t been so anxious and scared.

Is anyone else in the same boat who wants to keep me company? 🥹 Or can provide some tips on how to distract myself and cope better? I know there’s nothing I can do to change the outcome and what will be will be, but I don’t think I’ve ever worried so much in my life.

Thank you 🙏

I’m not sure of specific date yet @HopefulllHolly as my first scan will (hopefully) be done by an FMU consultant but it will be w/c 22 July. Ages away!

LouP87 · 01/07/2024 12:03

@HopefulllHolly I’m 12 weeks on Thursday and the last 10 days or so I basically have no symptoms left - boobs are slightly (and I mean slightly) sore if I squeeze! Tiredness has got so much better, spotting is still around every few days or so. That’s really it and I don’t feel pregnant at all. Saturday for my scan so can’t wait to tick that off the list

HopefulllHolly · 01/07/2024 12:06

@LouP87 Yeah I remember you are exactly a week ahead of me ☺️ 12 weeks feels like such a massive milestone, I’m so excited to reach it next Thursday! Glad your symptoms are also disappearing - it’s so unsettling! Make sure you add your scan pictures on Saturday (if you want to)! I love seeing them 😍❤️

Hi everyone,
Can I join in as well. I am still very early, not confirmed by a beta test yet … but I just got a positive digital test today (11dp3dt). According to the transfer AND test I am 4weeks today. 😬

How did you feel when you were 4 weeks along? I keep having some tiny “cramps”, little twinges in my ovaries/uterus, my boobs hurt and I have to pee ALL THE TIME. But everytime I use the loo, I keep thinking I’ll see blood … 🫣 I’m so nervous. This is our second transfer, we have never had a positive digital test, so this is really something new for me. 🫨

congrats to everyone on your pregnancies! I read almost the while thread … soon some of you should be expecting your NIPT results, right? :)

Welcome @summerchild92 and congratulations! How exciting! Glad you’re feeling ok! I think (and seems like ages ago now!) I had the same symptoms as you! Also had (still have) blue veins on my boobs, nausea when not eaten, very hungry and bloated. When do you have your blood tests? Hope you don’t have long to wait!
(And yep - I should get my NIPT results some time this week - hopefully they won’t keep me waiting too long, it’s scary!)

Congrats @summerchild92 ! I had very little symptoms at 4 weeks, mainly twinges / cramping (cramping is really normal) and starting to feel more tired than normal. The nausea etc and sore boobs didn’t start for me until 6 weeks. Are you having a beta blood test? I know clinics vary on whether they do them.

Natty2 · 01/07/2024 13:38

@HopefulllHolly sorry to hear that you've been suffering with Covid! Hope you feel better soon. I know you are at a different stage to me but I've had a total freak out this morning that I'm feeling ok and symptom free
I'm 6+3 today and first scan isn't until Thursday. I did start to get food aversions and everything smelt horrible over the weekend, with very mild nausea but everything seems to have gone this morning!

I've read that they can come and go but that hasn't helped the anxiety. For those who are over 6 weeks how did you feel at this time? I know everyone is different! Thursday feels like a decade away 😫

@summerchild92 congrats on your bfp!

@hopefullsosbry I managed to do a round of egg collection in January and then March but I hadn't had a transfer in between. I had the withdrawal bleed then started on next period. Best of luck

HopefulllHolly · 01/07/2024 13:42

@Natty2 My symptoms went before my 7 week scan too. I had a meltdown and then the scan was fine. They kind of came back and then left again and changed symptoms as I went on - so went from hungry and nauseous to tired then to headaches and food aversion, now I don’t have appetite for anything - I really have to force food down. All I fancied today was eggy bread so I’ve just had that 🙃 I figure at least I’m eating something! The thought of red meat, salad, most vegetables and fruit, all fish and any of the healthy stuff I used to it all makes me want to throw up. I’ve got a terrible diet at the moment! Excited for the day when I want good stuff back in my diet again tbh!

@HopefulllHolly yup 12 weeks on thurs and scan a week today 🤞🤞 I’ve been having really bad headaches recently too and am so excited to stop cyclogest in 3 days 🎉🎉

@Leaf86 good luck for scan

@summerchild92 welcome and congrats 🎉🎉

AnnieStar12 · 01/07/2024 14:47

Yes I am showing already, arrgh!! and it’s been upsetting me as I’m only 8+3, but defo struggling to fit in my clothes now. I know a big part of that is bloating but I wonder if I just don’t have any muscles left after previous pregnancies. I was hoping to tell people at work in Sept but not sure how much I’ll be able to hide it over the summer!
Ive already ordered maternity leggings as I lived in them in my last pregnancy. Also spotted some maternity wear bargains on vinted!

I’m on my way to my booking appointment with the midwife now, just trying to think of all the questions!

DippyDuck19 · 01/07/2024 16:46

@Edf how many cyclogest are you on? Are you just stopping them or reducing down?

My clinic said I could stop them at the start or end of week 12. Whatever I was happier with. Thought I'd be glad to stop them but the closer I get the more nervous I am! I've heard of a few people spotting once they've stopped.

Are you on oestrogen too?

ThePeachGoose · 01/07/2024 17:01

Congratulations @summerchild92 and welcome!

I'm 5 weeks and 2 days today, so I've just completed week 4. Last week I was having sore boobs, the same cramps and twinges you talk about, but mainly on the lower left side and they're gone now, also a pulling sensation in my ab muscles. I've had constant brown spotting and actually a few drops of dark brown blood for a day in 2WW, so my consultant brought me in for beta tests and they came out fine, but I thoroughly understand your worry! I also had this feeling of getting my period on a couple of days and towards the end of week 4 I had a combo day of being extremely tired and also nauseous if I had an empty stomach. Those both went away, but I have found over the past couple of days that my mild nausea comes more after eating, and strong smells or flavours don't make me nauseous yet, but I feel they bother me more than they used to. My heart also goes racing if I go for a walk, go up a hill or go up the stairs.

I haven't had my 6-7 week scan, but the symptoms seem promising so far.

ThePeachGoose · 01/07/2024 17:07

I'm a bit late to the party but I thoroughly get you @HopefulllHolly and @DippyDuck19 I'm terrified about having a vaginal birth if I get there as I'm a petite little lady of 1.6m and my husband is a little over 1.8m and his brother is a little over 2m, and I've seen the baby photos, they had huge heads! I'm terrified of being cut or tearing and all that. Plus even my mum encouraged me to have a c-section so I'm guessing she didn't have pleasant birthing stories either.

Also, noted on the epidural @AnnieStar12 and @Edf I'm all for sedation and anaesthesia. Hopefully this little embryo will get me all the way to where I even have the luxury to make that choice.

Good luck with the scan today @Leaf86

I hope that you're feeling a little les crummy with the covid @HopefulllHolly

HopefulllHolly · 01/07/2024 17:50

@DippyDuck19 I was panicky about finishing mine but finished the 2 a day at 8 weeks (which according to everyone else is finishing it early!). It was totally fine - just have to trust the science that got us here I guess! My symptoms got a lot better - boobs were much less sore and was less bloated, so wasn’t so bad! ☺️

Thanks @ThePeachGoose I’m sure I’ll feel better in a few days. I’m more stressed as I’ve just started a new job and I’m off work - don’t like letting people down or making a bad impression. I need to accept that my health and little baby come first at the moment. Haha same big head fears! And my mum said she wishes she had a caesarean now - my sister was 10lbs4oz (lol!!) so I think that was a bad delivery but my brother she had an epidural and was talking to the nurses about how she had decorated the house. My dad fell asleep during the birth too 🤣🤣

@HopefulllHolly were you are fresh transfer (sorry can't remember). My clinic is 8 weeks for fresh, 12 for frozen. Were you also on oestrogen too or just the progesterone pessaries?
I have enough to continue so will definitely take them until my scan when I'll be 12+5.

hopefullsosbry · 01/07/2024 18:13

Thanks everyone for your responses, yeh I am ok @HopefulllHolly thanks, my bleed came on yesterday, so I am focusing on next steps and we think we will do another EC .. save the eggs then put the two frozen in, if they don’t work we have more eggs to use. Hopefully we are allowed to do that,

HopefulllHolly · 01/07/2024 18:17

@DippyDuck19 Yeah I had a few left over after 8 weeks and did one a day instead till they were gone. And yep mine was a fresh. Would have been happy taking them until 12 weeks tbh! I got used to them!

@AnnieStar12 how was booking appointment? I have a second one with community midwife tomorrow morning.

@hopefullsosbry Glad you’re ok and have a good plan for next steps. Keep us posted ❤️

hopefullsosbry · 01/07/2024 18:23

Thanks, will do ! @AnnieStar12 hope your booking appointment went ok.. Will feel more real now 🥰

Edf · 01/07/2024 18:55

@DippyDuck19 im on 3 a day- the morning and night are fine but the one in the afternoon is annoying especially when I’m the office, I plan to ring clinic and reconfirm then just stop, I think them and the oestrogen are a cause for all the headaches, hence the excitement in stopping 🙈 but come Thursday I may well change my mind

ThePeachGoose · 01/07/2024 19:52

@HopefulllHolly oh such bad timing with this covid! last summer when i got covid and didn't go in, my co-workers were so pleased that I didn't come in to give it to them and even sent me a "Get well soon" hamper haha so hopefully your co-workers are just as grateful, as much as an interruption and pain in the butt that this could be

HopefulllHolly · 01/07/2024 19:55

I know 🙄 @ThePeachGoose typical timing! Luckily my community midwife appointment tomorrow is over the phone because I told her I was poorly. She said not to worry about getting it and it’s going around at the moment. Just hope it goes quickly!
