BFP after IVF - anyone want to join me in the wait for first scan?

Sensitive

Hi everyone,
I’ve just had our first cycle of IVF and although we had very slim odds of it working (low AMH, low AFC, male factor, which led to only 2 mature eggs which thankfully led to one perfect day 5 blast). We are absolutely amazed and over the moon that it worked despite everything, but I am really struggling with the wait for first scan. I almost feel with infertility (we TTC for 6/7 years) that it does make you anxious and I’m finding the wait to my first scan (6th June) unbearable. I don’t want to seem ungrateful but I really wish I could enjoy it or relax a little but instead I am worrying about miscarriage and things I can’t control. For me this has been the worst bit of IVF so far, and I’d love to just be able to be happy so I don’t look back (if it does work) and wish that I hadn’t been so anxious and scared.

Is anyone else in the same boat who wants to keep me company? 🥹 Or can provide some tips on how to distract myself and cope better? I know there’s nothing I can do to change the outcome and what will be will be, but I don’t think I’ve ever worried so much in my life.

Thank you 🙏

Thanks all!

@Natty2 thank you, ah so lovely that you are in the same timeline as me! I also have same as you, weeing a lot plus bloating, tiredness and the cramping I've had. I keep waiting for nausea but apart from a bit of acid reflux not really felt sick yet but I think everyone is different. My friend is pregnant with twins and had very few symptoms in first trimester. When is your first scan?

Also I haven't had any beta hcgs done, my clinic didn't offer them as standard, I'm with TFP. Has anyone else had this?

Edf · 24/06/2024 09:02

@hopefullsosbry i have everything crossed for you, I really hope everything is ok for you 🤞💕

Natty2 · 24/06/2024 10:40

@oliviagrace2307 @Snowdrop131 tvp too! They said I pay for bloods if I wanted to but wasn't necessary.. just hoping all is ok in the meantime!
My scan is next Thursday where I should be 6+6

Hi there & welcome @oliviagrace2307

I just wanted to chime in to say that I had a similar situation in that I had 5 mature eggs collected, only 4 fertilised and all 4 were doing well on Day 3, but then only 1 made it to transfer day. It was a bit of a shock, with this being a self-funded round, but it looks like it might have worked for us too! It’s all very early and the jury is still out, since I only found out yesterday (my official testing day) and I went in for hcg & progesterone tests today. I think that there’s a few more ladies here who’ve gotten a positive from their one & only. It’s crazy when it works like that!

I’m slightly concerned that I’m not uber tired like a lot of other ladies here, but I suppose that it’s still early for me. I’m only 4 weeks + 2 days if I calculate well. Most of my symptoms have been little cramps that come and go very low in my abdomen, swollen & sore boobs with one being quite painful last night actually, a pulling sensation around my ab muscles, a few drops of dark brown blood on 8dp5dt and then on & off light brown spotting on wiping, bloating and breathlessness ofc. Maybe hunger too and peeing more, but the last one could be because I always feel thirsty and drink lots of water.

@oliviagrace2307 My clinic wouldn’t have done beta tests but when I told them I’ve had some on & off spotting, they decided to call me in to check to be on the safe side. For both hcg and progesterone

hopefullsosbry · 24/06/2024 11:16

@oliviagrace2307 congratulations and welcome 🥰.. I have had some beta bloods which I had to pay for myself, I only done as my lines from my urine tests have been very faint and seemed slow rising, so I got the bloods to confirm. I think if you feel ok and your lines look nice and dark on tests I wouldn’t see a need to bother ?! Not all clinics do it as standard. Wishing you well and good luck to everyone else waiting in scans etc ✨💖

@HopefulllHolly good luck for your scan today.

@hopefullsosbry hope your results are ok? Fingers crossed for you.

Thank you 💖

hopefullsosbry · 24/06/2024 11:39

@Edf @Natty2 thank you 💖the waiting is killing me ..I am off today .. so it’s actually worse as I am just reading all the things it could be wrong 😭.. I feel like it’s maybes a blighted ovum ?🤷🏼‍♀️ I done more urine tests this morning and still not much darker, I know you can’t go by that exactly but it does give an indication.. hopefully I will be proven wrong and all will be ok and just be low /slow .. some people are but I dunno I feel my symptoms arnt so there anymore .. boobs not as sore and not feeling tired now which I was before .. it’s internal torture .😵‍💫. I just wana know now ahhhh !!! I am away a walk to take my mind of it .. 😑🫣🙏✨💖🤞🏽

hopefullsosbry · 24/06/2024 11:42

I am 6 weeks exactly today .. but if my beta levels arnt over 1500 ish I don’t think they can see much on ultrasound ?🤔 so dunno if a scan would even show anything yet ?

Edf · 24/06/2024 12:05

@hopefullsosbry i can completely relate to this torture and that is precisely what it is, it is the cruelest of positions to be in and the limbo is unbearable, my heart really
goes out to you 💕
im glad your off work, I know having nothing to do but wait does make time go slowly but work can do one right now! Virtual hand hold and hugs ❤️

hopefullsosbry · 24/06/2024 12:20

Awh thanks @Edf i think it’s the limbo as you say.. if it’s over then ad rather just know to get on with the next steps .. (2 frozen) and stop taking the injections which are starting to hurt 😭but I can’t just give up incase the wee bean is still alive and kicking so to speak , then you feel bad for wanting it over when it’s still there , but then feel like a fool for believing it could be still be something when you find out it’s not !!! 😵‍💫.. sorry just needing a vent today !!

HopefulllHolly · 24/06/2024 12:21

Sending big hugs @hopefullsosbry I cant imagine how horrible the wait must be! Hope it’s before 5pm so you don’t spend your day worrying. Thinking of you!

Welcome @oliviagrace2307 and congrats on your positive! Hope the wait goes quickly for you! All of us are in some form of wait for something tbh so you’re in good company! I also only had one blast and got pregnant ☺️

@Natty2 I wouldn’t worry about symptoms just yet - I cant really remember having them when I was 5 weeks now! Feels like forever ago but I think it was mainly needing wees in the night and very tired but nausea didn’t start till 6 weeks.

@ThePeachGoose I think your symptoms sound good for where you are so don’t worry! And good that you aren’t tired! It’s not fun as you literally feel like you can’t function. I did not get much work done when I was peak tired! Thankfully that seems to have mostly gone now.

Thank you for the lovely well wishes! Going for lunch before to keep my mind busy as I’m very anxious!

@hopefullsosbry rant away- nothing in this situation is fair, it is so completely normal in this very horrible situation for your brain to be running through everything just as you described above, it’s like (in my opinion) trying to balance preparing yourself for the worst because for some reason we believe that helps whilst also keeping the optimism alive- they naturally clash and your just spinning!
it is so reassuring I bet to have your 2 in the freezer tho, just in case (though I’m rooting for this little bean)

oliviagrace2307 · 24/06/2024 13:06

Hey all!

Thanks for your responses! @Snowdrop131 And @Natty82 congrats to you both nice to meet fellow TFP ladies. All I read is like US IVF articles and it seems the standard over there is to have beta HCG bloods. I saw the clinic did charge for it but tbh I'm just waiting for scan like you guys and hoping that the tests I do at home (although no where near accurate) are showing good growth. I have bad health anxiety anyway and I keep getting stuck in a rabbit hole of thinking of every negative outcome because the clinic only gave us a 16% of a morula implanting and I'd emotionally prepared myself that it wouldn't work but everyone was saying "keep positive" and I feel terrible for not having loads of faith to start with but people do have successfull live births with morulas but sadly not many of those stories are shared online so I really hope my story will be a positive one.

@ThePeachGoose congrats to you on your bfp!! Wow your story is so similar to mine. I felt so lucky to get 5 eggs I had to extend my stims meds as follicles were a bit slower to grow and then that horrible wait with lab updates on how they are doing. My cramping came on a similar time to you I haven't had any spotting yet but I do have that worry every time I go to the loo. It's good your clinic did your bloods to check on everything after you flagged your concerns. I did flag about the cramps to my clinic but they didn't seem overly worried they just said it's very normal so assuming it's all stretching/burrowing of the embryo.

@hopefullsosbry thanks for your message, I'm keeping absolutely everything crossed for you this afternoon and will be thinking of you. Def good to keep busy and go for walks etc the waiting is so hard.

@HopefulllHolly thanks for your message! Ah the 'It only takes one' mantra is really quite something when you speak to others who have also ended up with one embryo. I'm keeping everything crossed for you too this afternoon!!

Sending lots of positive vibes to everyone

hopefullsosbry · 24/06/2024 13:18

Thanks guys for the messages .. I appreciate the replies and kind words .. 💖 big love to all !! 🫶🏼

Snowdrop131 · 24/06/2024 13:20

I had 13 eggs collected 11 mature and just 1 fertilised which made it to day 5 and now waiting 6 wk scan next week. So ups and downs on this journey is crazy so I'm def hoping in the 'it only takes one' 🤞

ThePeachGoose · 24/06/2024 13:22

Thanks @oliviagrace2307 ! Is that what your clinic said about the cramping? That’s good to know. As my cramps have mostly been on my lower left side and today I mostly feel a slight pressure in the groin area on my left side, so naturally I fell in a research spiral for ectopic pregnancies lol. I decided to close the tabs and focus on my work until the consultant calls me back, but I’ll definitely bring up the cramps.

I don’t know about others but I’ve been cool as a cucumber during my 2ww (it was my third transfer) but now that the doctor saw something that’s worth bringing me in for to test, my anxiety is at peak levels. As I mentioned before, probably because this is where it all went wrong last time so it’s clearly triggering for me. I agree with everyone that this wait is worse than the 2WW.

Natty2 · 24/06/2024 13:42

@hopefullsosbry I hope you are not having to wait too long today.
A lady I've been speaking with on here since last year had her round of ivf a few months ago. They ended up putting in two low quality embryos as none of the others made it, her hcg rise was really slow too and she's now 13weeks. I hope the best for you ✨

@HopefulllHolly thank you, I'm normally quite a rational person, and even though it's early days and not everyone is the same I'm losing my mind! 😅 have a lovely lunch

oliviagrace2307 · 24/06/2024 13:53

@ThePeachGoose yeah my clinic said that cramping can be a real mixture of uterus stretching, embryo implanting, progesterone suppositories can also exasperate cramping... but def bring it up with your consultant. As i had a fresh transfer they also said ovaries coming back down in size can also give feelings of one sided cramping. They said if they are painful it's safe to take paracetamol which I did one dose on Friday and that if it got worse to speak to them again but thankfully they've calmed down loads. Oh gosh it's such a scary time def worse than 2ww for test. Good idea to close the tabs I was the same on Friday and it just doesn't help the Internet is def more of a curse sometimes than a blessing but glad I found this thread!

oliviagrace2307 · 24/06/2024 13:57

@Snowdrop131 keeping everything crossed for our ones! I naively thought I would have some frosty embabies out of my 5 in case we needed them for future use and didn't expect to end up with just one but I'm praying for the best!

That’s amazing .. I am glad everything worked out ok in the end for your friend ..thanks! this does give me hope, I have read lots online , and some people you read, through their whole pregnancy, hcg just never doubles or gets high at all .. hope this little one may be similar and it will go on to be healthy and strong .. fingers crossed I can also tell a similar story ✨🙏🤞🏽💖

ThePeachGoose · 24/06/2024 14:23

@oliviagrace2307 I've also had a fresh transfer but didn't even think about the ovaries coming down. So was it so bad for you that you had to take a paracetamol at 5 weeks, so I assume 2.5 - 3 weeks after the egg collection? Wow!

Last time I had a fresh transfer I could feel my ovaries really swollen and TMI peeing was painful, so I had to take paracetamol for a whole week after egg retrieval, but this time around I only had to take them for 2-3 days. They've been much calmer, but who knows.

I'll just have to wait to see how it all progresses. I'm very thankful for finding this thread as this could have been a very lonely and stressful wait otherwise.

Best of luck to everyone and especially to @hopefullsosbry today. Fingers crossed!
