BFP after IVF - anyone want to join me in the wait for first scan?

Hi everyone,
I’ve just had our first cycle of IVF and although we had very slim odds of it working (low AMH, low AFC, male factor, which led to only 2 mature eggs which thankfully led to one perfect day 5 blast). We are absolutely amazed and over the moon that it worked despite everything, but I am really struggling with the wait for first scan. I almost feel with infertility (we TTC for 6/7 years) that it does make you anxious and I’m finding the wait to my first scan (6th June) unbearable. I don’t want to seem ungrateful but I really wish I could enjoy it or relax a little but instead I am worrying about miscarriage and things I can’t control. For me this has been the worst bit of IVF so far, and I’d love to just be able to be happy so I don’t look back (if it does work) and wish that I hadn’t been so anxious and scared.

Is anyone else in the same boat who wants to keep me company? 🥹 Or can provide some tips on how to distract myself and cope better? I know there’s nothing I can do to change the outcome and what will be will be, but I don’t think I’ve ever worried so much in my life.

Back from scan and baby was so much bigger (I’ve added a picture but if it upsets anyone please let me know and I’ll remove!). He or she seemed to be asleep as wasn’t moving but a nice strong heartbeat. Measuring 9 weeks 3 days so one day behind but the sonographer said it was all fine and within range (we’re both short so I’m not surprised if it is too!)
Amazing how much different it is! And relieved that no symptoms doesn’t mean much (second time I’ve learnt this now 😂)

@ThePeachGoose I know i did think it was a bit odd when the nurse said it could still be ovaries reducing in size but for me it was all up in the air whether I could even have transfer as they did find a bit of fluid and at the time it was questioned about mild OHSS but I was cleared for transfer but who knows! It's probably a myriad of things which can cause cramping.

@oliviagrace2307 ah sorry to hear about the OHSS risk. That definitely explains the ovary pain. But I’m pleased that you got cleared for the fresh transfer and you’re here now in this thread waiting for your first scan a few weeks later. How crazy is that 😄

@AnnieStar12 Awww 🥰 it’s so nice hearing how other people are doing isn’t it. I feel so much happier after seeing it again, definitely feel a little less stressed every time we have a scan. Hopefully I can get through a week and a half this time before I start having a melt down again! How are you doing?

@ThePeachGoose Yeah it’s crazy! My 7 week scan it just looked like a little worm so it’s absolutely crazy seeing how much it’s changed in just a couple of weeks. The 12 week scans will be lovely to see as I think they’ll look even more like a baby where as now it looks just like a jelly baby ☺️

@oliviagrace2307 @ThePeachGoose When I went for my 7 week scan the nurse said my ovaries were still really big (and I didn’t even have lots of eggs) so that’s why I was having pain on my side still. I was surprised they were still big but she says they can fill with blood after so it can take a long time to go back down.

Doesn’t look like I’ll get the result from Saturdays blood draw until Wednesday.. 😵‍💫 haven’t heard yet so I called the clinic (ultrasound direct) and she said as it get sent to London, (I live in Scotland) and was taken on a sat, no post will be collected from post office in afternoon, and no mail on Sunday, so to expect result probably Wednesday.. she gave me the tracking number which I have used and it’s still sitting in my local post office .. 🤷🏼‍♀️.. glad I called to ask .. so more waiting .. couldn’t make it up ! 😔

@hopefullsosbry oh my god that’s absolutely ridiculous and I’m so so sorry that they’re taking so long! I’m struggling waiting hours for my results here, but you have to wait days in a row and it just doesn’t feel right at such a critical time 😔

@AnnieStar12 my 1st scan with the fertility clinic is 2nd July when I am 7+1 ..my fertility clinic don’t want to check me early as they said they don’t check betas and unless I get pain or bleeding there is no need to scan early ..the low beta to them wasn’t a concern for to scan early .. I am concerned though and they said I can self refer to the early pregnancy clinic at NHS local hospital so when I called them, they said to call them when I get the results of the beta (which I assumed was Monday) and if i am still concerned they will book me in no problem to check via scan . So no scan booked yet for them I was to wait until the result came to book .. so I can either hold of till next week with fertility clinic scan ... or go early with hospitals early pregnancy unit .. if beta still low I’ll go early to check for ectopic .. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I am sure if I just called today saying I am concerned they will just book me in ?? I am not sure what to do, wait for results or just call them anyways and book myself a scan .. I haven’t had bleeding and no pain apart from twinges here and there in tummy .. the increase last time was only 36.8% in 48 hours .. I dunno what to do ?! I am just scared if it is ectopic of it rupturing, that’s thee worst case senecio .. but my mind keeps taking me there 😑

@hopefullsosbry I guess it depends on how you are coping. If you can wait for blood results and they reassure you then wait for scan, but if you feel anxious and whatever the results say likely won’t make you feel better then just call them. You come first so if you know the results won’t relax you either way then phone them up 🙂 I hope you’re ok! You’re one tough amazing cookie!

@hopefullsosbry i echo above- can your anxiety cope with a wait till Wednesday? If so then great if not- worth a shot at epu?

@hopefullsosbry Oh god, what a palaver - I'm sorry. I agree that if you're concerned about ectopic or anything else, may be best to just go straight to the EPAU if you're feeling too worried to wait until Wednesday?

I think that you should just call and try to get a scan. The worst that can happen is that they say No, and then you wait for your test results and call them again. If you’re worried about an ectopic pregnancy, then this is one of their priorities usually, and not all of them manifest in bleeding, so I feel that they should pay attention. Do whatever brings you some peace of mind and makes your life and wait easier, as this is a very stressful time and you’ve already had enough stress for a lifetime.

@hopefullsosbry I'm sorry you are having such an elongated wait for answers. I agree with the others if it would put your mind at ease I would see if your EPU can scan you just to give you clarity. Sending hugs x
