Starting IVF January 2024

Hi ladies,

Just wondered if anyone is due to start their IVF cycle this month and want to keep company?!

I will be starting my first round hopefully in just over a week's time, on a short protocol.
After 2 years ttc, hoping this is finally our year!

Yes trigger done last night, ready for EC at 9 tomorrow. Although just got some disappointing news that my blood tests yesterday picked up on high levels of progesterone which means they have to do a freeze all.
Looks like I won't be able to have transfer until at least April (they said 3rd bleed) so gutted 😞

@Natty2 ah I’m sorry to hear that but least the egg retrieval can still go ahead. Hope tomorrow goes ok.

@Natty2 aww I'm sorry it wasn't quite the news that you wanted today, I get how frustrating it is having to wait and wait 😰😰 try and look at it that your body gets a few months to recover from all of this ready to choose your best lil embryo that you're gonna get tomorrow ❤️❤️ will be thinking of you, good luck hope it goes okay xxx

I've had no calls so starting to feel less anxious by now, guess I must have at least 1 to use but will find out tomorrow morning when I turn up if I suppose! eek!

@cbear1989 With my clinic at least, they call in the afternoon and I’ll know then if there’s one to transfer tomo, otherwise they’d have called already so yay!

We had our transfer! 5 of the 8 eggs fertilised, and 2 made it to day 5 blast stage. They don’t grade embryos here (or at least they don’t tell the patients).

I’m so relieved we know we can fertilise and make a blast.

One blast is chilling out inside me now, and the other is in the freezer.

I was expecting a few to die off, but was still hoping for 3/4 blasts. They told me it’s normal for a 30-year-old woman to lose 60% of the eggs by day 5, and 2 left by now is the norm. I’m 32, so seems about right and made me feel better.

It was easy and not painful, unlike my IUIs at my last clinic.

I’ll have a blood test in 11 days. Fingers crossed!

@Copenhagener ahh that’s great news. Wonderful to have one to freeze as well. I really hope the transferred embryo is lucky for you!!
We are planning to transfer two if we have two to use. Last time I transferred one so taking the jump this time. My partner and I are both content with twins provided they’re healthy. But I’d also be delighted with just one healthy baby. Eagerly awaiting the embryologist call!

We’re actually not allowed to put in more than one embryo at a time if the woman is under 37 here. It’s really interesting to hear the different protocols around the world!

Just had my update from the embryologist. We have 2 early blastocysts, 1 12 cell compacting morula and 1 9 cell. So I’m thinking may have one to freeze but also may not. Main thing though is the early blasts keep growing and transfer goes ahead ok tomorrow morning. Feeling excited and nervous.

@Blossomofhope that's amazing, you must be so pleased!!! I'm not expecting a call today, she just said they'll only call if they don't make it so we will find out and make a decision tomorrow morning ready for them to go back in! keep getting butterflies now as I'm just happy to hopefully have a fighting chance of a transfer, sometimes felt like I was never gonna get to this point!

@cbear1989 oh I know, emotions are high throughout this whole process. It’s a rollercoaster. It’s probably a good sign you haven’t had a call yet today.

I had my EC this morning, they collected 14 but will find out tomorrow how many of those were actually mature and fertilised 🤞🤞
Still not sure what our next steps will be for FET but hopefully we can have our nurse planning appointment once we get past day 5 to see how many make it to freezing

Had some pretty disappointing that of our 14 only 5 were mature and 3 fertilised. Hope they are strong ones but need to prepare that we may end up with nothing to transfer 💔

I'm back home now after my transfer. Went in with such low expectations and was so happy to find that we had 3 top quality blasts. couldn't believe it. so one is back in and 2 frozen for another couple of go's if we need it. @Blossomofhope how are you feeling and how did you get on?

@Natty2 bless you, really feel for you as I know myself it's super scary with the drop offs but stay strong, you've got this ❤️❤️ I was so stressed when my 9 collected eggs dropped to 8 mature and then only 4 fertilised. Had low hopes for how many would get to blasts and the quality of them but it couldn't have gone better. Who knows what will happen next but you're not out til you're out and I have everything crossed for you that you end up with good blasts to freeze ❤️❤️ thinking of you and hope you get an update with some good news soon xxx

@Natty2 Although it may be disappointing there’s every chance you’ll still end up with a few blasts.
@cbear1989 Thats great news. Are you taking it easy for the rest of the day? Mine also went well. Two expanding blasts transferred and they’re monitoring the rest and will update us tomorrow. Surreal morning.

@Blossomofhope that's amazing, well done you!! pretty easy far, just had an excellent nap 🤣😴 although we are going out with friends for dinner and an escape room tonight which will be lovely. Feels kinda surreal knowing what I've done this morning, they're very close friends so know we are doing ivf but not that we've finally had our first retrieval and everything. it's so funny just carrying on with life isn't it 🤣🤣 hope you're having a chilled one and resting up! xxx

The waiting in between appointments is the worst! I’ve not felt like doing anything retrieval day was last Wednesday but still have period type pains. How have you been keeping yourselves busy? I made myself this notebook and have been keeping a record of all medication appointment dates updates etc in it

Hi @Vian67! I totally agree, I've said many a time that the waiting is 100% the worst bit over any physical pain or discomfort with injections or meds side effects etc.

It's hard but I'm just trying to keep busy, seeing friends and family and having a few chill days with hubby here and there. Helps that I'm pretty busy with work too so I'm hoping my testing day will come quickly although I'm def not getting my hopes up!

We found out today we don’t have any to freeze. I feel like fear has set in today, I don’t know how I’d cope with another failed cycle. I so hope this one this lucky!

@Blossomofhope oh no bless you, that's frustrating. Did you say you've had two back in on your transfer? hopefully you have a good chance of conceiving this time, my test date is the 7th, when's yours?

I've felt okay thanks. I had quite bad lower back pain yesterday and some cramps on and off but otherwise fine. it's just gonna be a long 10 days or so 😅😅
