@Walker12 Lazy afternoons are the best! And we definitely need rest. We are growing a human person inside of us! LOL

As for the internal stuff... When you go to the EPU here they always examine your cervix... Its really undignified, as, unlike when you go to the GYN or to an OB, they dont give you anything to cover up... It is bare, leg open, feet in stirups, no modesty! Absolutely grim!!!😂

But at least the scan was abdominal, afterwards LOL

And the doctor this time was absolutely lovely, and they knew my doctor from the clinic, as she works at the maternity as well!

@Charming81 It really is! And it was the first time I saw it as well, I was even a bit worried I hadnt seen it yet... It was amazing!
And the arms and legs were so long already!!!!

Charming81 · 24/09/2023 21:26

Yes, they look like little frogs stretching and jumping around 😍❤️

Walker12 · 25/09/2023 10:43

Had my scan ladies, all is well and we saw babys beautiful profile and long legs! And little feet and toes. So relieved and happy

Charming81 · 25/09/2023 10:45

Best news! Was it the 12 week scan? Now are you ready for your holiday? Where are you going?

wtawtaw · 25/09/2023 10:54

How lovely @Walker12! Hope you can enjoy a relaxing holiday now!

Good luck to all the others that have their 12 week scans this week 🍀💛

Charming81 · 25/09/2023 12:38

@ASGIRC how are you today? You have your 12 week scan tomorrow, right?

Did anyone else had the scan today?

ASGIRC · 25/09/2023 13:10

@Charming81 I'm absolutely fine!
And yes, my scan is tomorrow! Went to do the blood work for the combined test today!

@Walker12 amazing!!! Perfect way to go on holiday!!!

wtawtaw · 25/09/2023 13:20

I think @SH998 has a scan today too 🍀💛

Charming81 · 25/09/2023 14:40

Today I also had the scan with the nhs. All still good 🤞🏻🐞🍀 Baby is measuring 67mm, 13 weeks (even though I am 12+3). And we definitely saw a willy 😂🩵💙

SH998 · 25/09/2023 15:40

@Walker12 @Charming81 so happy your scans went well and congrats on seeing a Willy 💙

Had mine this morning and baby looked fine, measuring 3 days ahead now making me 13 weeks 5 days. The baby was on its head with its feet kicking in the air so was unable to take the measurements needed for the tests. After speaking to the nurse I was told that they now can’t test for the 3 syndromes so only option is going private, frantically looked around and booked the only private appointment available today, drive an hour there to be told they don’t have the kits and that it shouldn’t have been booked.

The NHS hospital is telling me I need to test like now while the private clinic are telling me you can have the NIPT until 40 weeks, I’m so confused as to why they say different deadlines, is there a difference in these tests? If so what are they please?

Im so upset and I’ve literally cried all afternoon. I now don’t even want to tell anyone, it’s completely spoilt what should have been an amazing day.

Walker12 · 25/09/2023 16:24

Thanks all, yes it was 12w scan, I am 11w6d but measured pretty much bang on 12 weeks :) really going to try and relax a bit now.

Glad you had another lovely scan @Charming81!

@SH998 Glad your scan went well and you have an active little baby! But I'm sorry about the confusion you are going through with the screening- the private one is probably a NIPT which doesn't have a time limit I don't think, its more accurate than the NHS screens but obviosuly pricey. The NHS screen is more rudimentary based on the NT and a few other markers, but has a set time limit- I've no idea if private clinics offer this one? If you can you afford it i would get a NIPT- about £450. I am sure everything is absolutely fine with your little but I totally understand you wanting the screening. Try to focus on seeing your lovely baby ❤️

Walker12 · 25/09/2023 16:26

Oh and did they send you off for a walk and try the measurements again? I read that they are supposed to do that if they can't get them the first time!

wtawtaw · 25/09/2023 16:33

@SH998 I'm glad your saw a healthy baby and sorry to hear about them not being able to do syndromes test, they should have sent you away for a bit to see if baby moves (I literally just had to wiggle my hips and it moved/woke up). I would demand they try again tomorrow? If you're measuring 13+5 then tomorrow you should still be just in time.

The nipt I believe can be taken anytime from 10 weeks until delivery

SH998 · 25/09/2023 18:05

To be fair they tried 3 times, second time after I went the loo as my bladder was so full it was pushing on the baby’s face then made me go for a walk for 15 mins and come back and it still wouldn’t move … we’ll it would move but not in the position they needed. I did ask after they took all the standard bloods could they rescan then and they told me no! This point we had already been there nearly 2 hours.

Now to make the decision on whether to wait for the 16 week Downs test alone or pay a absurd amount of £400 for the full NIPT. It’s not the sort of money I have spare, I’ve spend about a grand on blood tests and scans alone.

Im really unhappy they booked the scan so late, surely as a 40 year they would class as a priority knowing the risks of some syndromes increasing with age.

What would you all do?

IVFfirsttimer91 · 25/09/2023 18:29

@SH998 i think I would probably book the bloods privately. The chance of anything being amiss is really small, but I think I would still want to know. I’m sorry you’ve had such trouble with this!

Congratulations on the scans everyone!!

Charming81 · 25/09/2023 18:34

I am so, so sorry to hear this. Very disappointing! One of my students had exactly the same problem. Ivf pregnancy, they could not take the measurements of the baby, they asked her to go back the following week only to be told that baby was too big to take the measurements 😑😑😑 She went private (same place I went on Saturday, The fetal medicine centre in London) and they could take all the measurements. The nipt (Harmony test) can be done any week from 10 weeks.

Where do you live? Could you go to London? I've had the best experience with them, they are brilliant. I am really so sorry they spoiled one of the most important and happy day of ypur life.

Charming81 · 25/09/2023 18:36

The test you can't do if it is too late I think is the combine test (which is a lot cheaper I think). For NIPT (Harmony test) and Nuchal translucency I paid £500

ASGIRC · 25/09/2023 19:27

@SH998 Im so sorry today didnt go as planned!
The NIPT can be done at any time, but yeah, its not cheap... The combined test can only be done until 13+6, which is why the NHS told you it has to be done now.

Im sorry it spoiled your day, but Im sure your baby is absolutely fine and you will soon find that out!

wtawtaw · 25/09/2023 21:24

@SH998 bit of a long shot but can you has the NHS to pay for the test for you due to them not being able to tell you? you'd be offered the nipt test for free on the NHS if you came back as high risk from the combined test and you can say you're worried due to your age etc etc. you really shouldn't have to be put in this situation!

Did they take your bloods at least? If so, I wonder how accurate the NHS test is from the bloods alone?

Charming81 · 25/09/2023 21:45

Unfortunately the blood test on its own is completely useless because it has to be combined with the NT

Charming81 · 26/09/2023 08:01

@ASGIRC good luck for your scan! 🤞🏻🐞🍀 please keep us updated (although we know already it will go well! 😁)

IVFfirsttimer91 · 26/09/2023 10:47

@ASGIRC hope the scan goes well!!

ASGIRC · 26/09/2023 10:51

@Charming81 @IVFfirsttimer91 thanks!!!
It's not till 4pm,though,so long wait ahead!
Spent the whole night dreaming about it, though! Also that it was a girl, but that might have been wishful thinking!

I'll let you know later! First I need to do some adulting and go try to renegotiate my mortgage with the bank 😂😂

wtawtaw · 26/09/2023 11:25

Hope scan goes well @ASGIRC!

Walker12 · 26/09/2023 14:32

Ah enjoy the scan today @ASGIRC and seeing your little one again!
